SO. MANY. AMOONGUSS.
I never realized how weak this team was to the shroom.
There are *so* many Amoonguss this time round, it’s surprised even me and I’m the one that tells my mates how common it really is. I think only one team I’ve faced hasn’t used one, it’s ridiculous. Sun teams seem to be the best way to deal with it but should you really need to do that for a single Pokémon?
One of my last battles was another example of kids not knowing what they are doing. He only brought 4 pokemon. The 3 starters from black and white that you got from pokebank. And the dragonite from gamestop.
Maybe those were his only level 50 pokemon now that I think about it…?
lol I faced that exact same player an hour ago. I like to assume he’s trolling everyone that gets paired up with him but I just can’t tell these days.
7-1 so far so not to bad I’ll finish off later, highlight so far going against a perish trap team that didn’t know the mechanics of perish trap, stalling out against my amoonguss not a good idea
I swear, these tournaments always coincide with the times I’m out of town with no internet access…
My last battle, hilarious! His Salemence used brick break on my togekiss, and his mega latios was physical.
Wut.
Just wut.
Faced a team of all level 48s with both a rock resist berry Ninjask and a Shedinja who he sent out first
… And both were promptly smashed by falling rocks.
Sadly, as i am 3 – 7, that will probably be more common for me, as i really should have cut my losses after that Bloody Scarf Jolteon i came across, and waited until today.
9-1
Could be a 10-0 but I ran against a crazy guy who froze my Thundurus with Ice Punch Kang and burnt my Gardevoir on the switch-in with Fire Blast from his normal Salamence, which was already brought to burn range from the hits from Kangaskhan, and I would have won if that guy was not using Superpower on his Scizor. I also misplayed during the game so it is totally my fault.
But I also ran against a guy using Garchomp, Surskit, the other Zigzagoon (i can’t recall its name, it is the black dog you find in early game in Hoenn) and a Lotad so…
7-3 after 5-0 start because taking your DS to work is always a good idea
10-0 so far.
I fully admit to being bailed out one match by Togekiss’ Air Slash missing my Amoonguss twice consecutively, though they did flinch my Heatran 3-4 times in a row before that.
The most interesting Pokemon on teams I’ve seen so far are Espeon and Galvantula. Unfortunately Espeon wasn’t brought, but I imagine it’s there for Magic Bounce support, maybe Yawn or Helping Hand. I’d love to see Magic Room used sometime to throw opponents off guard. I was concerned that Galvantula would start spreading paralysis or perhaps Sticky Web, but it just spammed Bug Buzz until it fainted.
Just faced a dude using Wild Charge on my Landorus, a Focus Band Dragonite using Outrage and Drapion using Earthquake against my Thundurus and Landorus combo. 4-0’d the poor newbie.
I guarantee my next opponent will *destroy* me for this.
Thanks you guys.

Now I will be sure I bring a safety googles somewhere on my team, as I haven’t locked my box yet.
Going to be using my safety goggles Liepard team when my DS is done charging, hopefully I don’t over predict any newbs, which is why I suck at best of 1…
I have had some very bad luck, not to mention a few fatal mistakes concerning the shortened timer in VGC.
I had one opponent in check, and as my prized Mega Sceptile was bringing down the ax on his Rotom-W, he got the 50/50 double Protect. His Sylveon then proceeded to finish off Sceptile. That left me with a full-health Heatran against a damaged Sylveon and a damaged Sitrus Rotom-W. And Rotom-W > Heatran > Sylveon. An unlucky loss, but that’s the game we play!
Other than that, I just need to get used to the shortened time in VGC! That cost me my first game, and here I am 1-3.
Interestingly, I faced the Herdier+Tyranitar After You combo that was featured in a report here, but it was my only victory, and a pretty clean one at that.
Though I’m not thriving so far, I sure love this game!
If anyone wants to battle (Keonspy, we should have our Mega Sceptiles duel!), just PM me!
Day 1 done for me. I came into with a record of 8-2 but I faced quite a few people in the 1400 range so I expect my rating to be around the 1575 mark. Still pleased with my record though. Interestingly I only brought my mega to 3 battles so far. I should look into that after the tournament.
I’m quite surprised at the eclectic mix of common I’ve faced too. In the ten battles the most common opponent I’ve battled is kangaskhan. But still that’s only been 3 times. I believe I’ve battled 34 different pokemon. Really enjoying it all though
Mega Alakazam 10-0 on Day 1, Day 2 let’s go
I forgot about Japsand when putting together my team whoops. Already lost to one. Hopefully I won’t run into too many of them…
Not too many notable battles today though, still too low on the ladder I guess.
1-1, I hate swagger so much… I honestly think I made the best plays I could that last game, being confused for 3 turns really sucks. But that’s the game. I disagree with most of my opponents plays. He left Kang and Suicune in on Liepard after they Tailwind and Fake Out. If I had Encored Suicune and forced the switch, game would have went a lot differently. But once again I over predicted because his name had VGC in it.
Hopefully I have better luck in the rest of my games. Gonna take a break for a little bit and try and forget about the last match.
As oppose to what other people are saying, neither of my first two battles had Greninja or Amoonguss. They both had Thundurus-I and Landorus-T though.
10-0 for Day 1 using a team that’s near and dear to me
What started as a selfish ploy to see my prized pokemon inside of PGL’s beautiful battle box format has turned into something that I could potentially take seriously >.>
I love Encore Mega Lopunny, but the change was so last-minute that I forgot I don’t have Protect anymore, and I leave her in when I shouldn’t and forget to Encore Protect-users.
Probably going to bow out of the IC for now and take the team back to the drawing board. I’m not a quitter, but it has too many major flaws to function properly. I had to make some last-minute substitutions and got literally three Battle Spot test battles, and I’m not a fan of how it plays. I’ll be sure to terrorize Battle Spot with the renewed team pretty soon though
Good luck to everyone else!
Day 2 is so far so totally different from Day 1 (Waiting for the other shoe to drop…) but the games have been pretty fun so far, so I have that going for me.
From 10-0 to 5-4, gonna quit while I’m ahead because I don’t want to being stuck using a team that I know for sure I won’t use at Nationals. Played LPfan and pwny person today and lost to both in close games.
Anyway this team is the same I used to get top 8 at the Florida Winter Regional earlier this year.
The team relies on some terribly outdated pokemon and concepts (e.g heavy reliance on Tailwind, Terrakion being extremely mediocre)
Only played in this because I wanted to see my favorite team I used all season to be enshrined in PGL’s battle box format.

After day 2 I’m 17-3 at 1671 before my last match, so already doing better than last time. I’ve been very fortunate to mostly be matched with players in the 1600’s or high 1500’s. I even played the same ~1630 guy twice…
Here’s to hoping for more than 1 CP!
Day two and i am 10 – 10 with day one being 3 – 7 and day two being 7 – 3.
eeeeeyup.
Fourth game was by far my favorite, with the team preview showing a team I didn’t entirely like seeing… and losing Heatran turn 1 to a Mega Gardevoir using HP Ground didn’t help that feeling.
And then I sent out Liepard, and won.
Then immediately afterwards faced a Suicune that decided to stay in despite being encore into Tailwind… Liepard’s been awesome today.
I think I battled you. (my IGN is Meowstic) And I have to say you outplayed me with the lead matchup. You are my only loss and i’m 18-1. I saw the Blizzard rhyp too lol. Good luck in the rest of the IC
Not sure where my record stands now, other than that I let myself go on tilt, it sucks, and I’m somehow still scraping the bottom of the 1500 barrel, but…
What IDIOT wins a game by WILLINGLY using Hyper Voice in front of an Aegislash that has JUST USED WIDE GUARD when doing so would LET MY SALAMENCE KILL IT?!
16-4 so far, (8-2 both days) and pretty happy with how my team is performing.
Also nice to see Oprah’s fans all received their Greninjas in time for the competition. -.-
sounds like you got outplayed
I am 7-3, then 9-1.
16-4 is solid.
