Japanese Pokémon Global Link Announces First BW2 Tournament: The Beginning Cup

The Japanese Pokémon Global Link has just announced the first-ever Black 2/White 2 tournament: the Beginning Cup. It will take place over Wi-Fi between 00:00 August 24th to 23:59 August 26th, Japan Standard Time and will only be open to Japanese Black 2 and White 2 cartridges.

It will be Wi-Fi rated double battles with a twist: you are only allowed to use Pokémon from the BW2 Unova Pokédex (not including Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect). How is this any different from VGC 2011 rules? In BW2 the Unova Pokedex has changed considerably from BW. While it still contains all of the old Unova Pokedex, it now allows a few VGC staples like Metagross and Tyranitar and bans others like Abomasnow and Politoed. And of course all the new BW2 toys will be allowed including new Dream World abilities, tutor moves, and the Therian Formes.

Also to commemorate the first-ever BW2 tournament and the upcoming 2012 Pokémon World Championships in Hawaii, the Japanese PGL will be releasing a new C-Gear skin for BW2. It will be available between August 20th and September 25th.

Registration for the Beginning Cup will start at 13:00 August 20th and run until 23:59 August 23rd, Japan Standard Time.
