37Livestreams at the 2013 Pokémon World Championships
While many players are arriving in Vancouver or preparing for their journey, many more will be home this weekend trying to follow along with what is happening at the 2013 Pokémon World Championships in Vancouver this weekend. We’re very happy to announce that Pokémon will be officially running a livestream on their new TwitchTV channel for the top cut and finals of both the video game and trading card game this year. The schedule is as follows:
August 10, 2013
- 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM PT: Video Game Top Cut
- 7:30 PM – 12:00 AM PT: Trading Card Game Top Cut
August 11, 2013
- 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM PT: Video Game Finals
- 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM PT: Trading Card Game Finals
For this year’s commentary, The Pokémon Company International has decided to pull talent from the competitive community rather than the gaming media. Video game commentary will come from Nugget Bridge’s own Scott Glaza (Scott) and Evan Latt (plaid). Trading card game commentary will be provided by Josh Wittenkeller (TheJWittz) and The Top Cut‘s Josue Rojano (Crimz).
During the swiss rounds, we plan to have an unofficial stream much like what we did at the 2013 US National Championships. How well it goes will depend on the mobile signal we get at the convention centre. We’ll keep you updated on that using our Twitter account. This stream — if possible — will happen on the Nugget Bridge TwitchTV channel. As always keep an eye on our Twitter account and the official Pokémon World Championships website throughout the weekend for updates on your favourite players!
How the heck did you get this posted so fast? Anyway, really excited, because I’ll be able to watch Worlds from the comfort of my home
@NBnostrom? I love that guy
Ehh…
Wait, NuggetBridge, people who actually know about the metagame, are commentating?
Damnit, I was looking forward to hearing more of GameSpot’s guesses on how Sandstorm increases the power of rock moves, Cresselia is a frail attacker, thunder wave has a small chance of paralysing, and twisted dimensions mean abilities are switched.
Let’s not forget about what appears to be Japanese text on the screen
The best was something I missed the first time I watched though: Game 1 of Junpei/Ray goes to time, and the timer is at like, 34 seconds and its 3-2 or something, so it’s completely obvious it’s about to go time. There’s like this moment of tension watching it when I realized they didn’t realize after they failed to comment on what was going to happen and the clock ticked down and I was just like “oh no, they’re going to get blindsided by this…” and then the camera panned away because the game ended and there was like fifteen seconds of dead air as they tried to figure out what happened. 10/10

props to TPCI for comentators choose!
So I stole the news and translated it to Polish. I hope some Polish will watch it despite 9 hours of difference.
All I remember is
HITS LIKE A TRUCK
HITS LIKE A TRUCK
HITS LIKE A TRUCK
additionally if someone finds a stream during Swiss like the one the Japanese had going last year that got chodebombed, please make that stream known via forums, this thread, irc, something so it can serve as a good way to communicate in case signal isn’t the best there
Thank god, something to do while I’m in Maine. Screw kayaking I have Pokemon.
How are we going to hear Nick McCord if Scott and Evan are commentating?
Whoops, didn’t this topic before posting in the preview one. So the LCQ and Swiss rounds won’t be streamed?

There might be niconico streams for the Swiss rounds as well.
I hope the niconico people are under better control this year… I’ve never had a match more disrupted than the one I was on their stream during swiss last year.
What happened there? I don’t remeber hearning that story
They literally took Mike’s DS from him in the middle of turn to adjust settings or something and didn’t give it back until there was like 3 seconds left on the turn timer, among some other obnoxious stuff. It was pretty bad. It probably suffices to say if we did something like that, we wouldn’t be streaming again.
Legend of japanese lady who really wanted Scott to defeat Mike
i assume pt is pacific time?
PT is Pacific Time.

I think I made an error about this stream before. I think it will cover Swiss as well. It starts in a little under 2.5 hours.
Am I clicking the wrong things or does that need an account to access?
You need an account, there isn’t much happening on the niconico stream right now anyway though
you need either an account or to log in with facebook.
If you didn’t already know they’re streaming swiss on the niconico stream linked above. They just showed Jaime Martinez vs Trista (2-0 to Jaime)
Alright, thanks all. Viewing that page on my comp led me to the registration stuff. Either my phone wasn’t showing the English instructions to register or they didn’t have it up when I looked at it earlier.
Poor Ben. Almost got double 0-4’d on the last match on Nico. ._.
Ray didnt even make top cut…wow anyway grats to the top 8 players! Hoping to see sejun in the finals.
