First Details About Pokémon X & Y WiFi Test Tournament

We’ve been waiting for information about this season’s online tournaments for quite some time now as Championship Points from the events were the factor in who did and didn’t make the World Championships in 2013. We might be a bit closer to that information as the Japanese Global Link has just revealed some information about the test tournament they announced mid-2013.

The Pokémon X & Y Test Tournament will take place from the evening of Friday, February 21st to Monday, February 24th. As mentioned last year, anyone who met the minimum number of battles to be included in the standings of the 2013 Global Showdown and weren’t disqualified will be eligible to play. You must have your Pokémon X or Y card registered to the same Global Link account that was used for the 2013 Global Showdown. Additionally, sign-ups will open on January 31st to allow the first 10,000 participants to join in as well.

The Pokémon Company apologizes for the delay in the tournament. The ruleset will be announced at a later time, presumably when the page for sign-ups goes live on January 31st.

I actually believe part of the article is incorrect regarding entry.  Originally, they did state that players whom were disqualified were not allowed into the Test Tournament however; there was a later news entry which stated that anyone could signup; even if they were disqualified.  I’m not able to source this since the B&W Global Link is down now; but it was posted there around December if I recall correctly.  This could have changed since then, so if so, disregard this post.

What they said is that if you were DQ’d there would be another opportunity to get in, not that being DQ’d didn’t matter at all. If you placed in the Test Tournament you are guaranteed a spot. If you were DQ’d you are going to have to go for one of the 10K “first come, first serve” spots. So there’s no incorrectness here.

I really hope they change the rules to VGC instead of singles, like they were talking about before. Lets get this started already.

Your right.  I realized that after I re-read it.

If it is ubers.  Going to be kind of hard to play ubers without Pokébank.  Not to say I wouldn’t welcome the format though.

  18. I still have my uber team from the Global Showdown if the bank would ever come out. X/Y probably wouldn’t change it at all.

According to Serebii there are rumours that it will be any mon in the national dex and no transferred mons. So basically Xerneas, Ylvetal and Mewtwo (and Zygarde but it sucks).

I’ve got a perfect Ylvetal and not catched my Mewtwo yet so I’m all game for this, fun as a one-off thing.

  22. Here was me thinking Nintendo had forgotten/thought we had all forgotten and were pushing it quietly under the carpet. If it is UBERS then I have a really good Mewtwo :D I will probably also bring Mawile as he is strong against all 4 ubers available in the game and has great utility with his typing and intimidate.

But seriously, ubers is kinda lame if they dont allow legendaries from past generations to be used :(

  26. The most recent info from Serebii states the following:

Ahead of the reveal of the data worldwide, and after its reveal yesterday, the official Korean site has seemingly inadvertently revealed the regulations for the upcoming Beta Competition WiFi tournament for Pokémon X & Y. It’s possible that these regulations may change, but we’ll have confirmation on Friday.
First, the battles are to be Double Battles and you can use any Pokémon in the National Pokédex, except Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal or Zygarde, and you cannot use transferred Pokémon from previosu generations. All Pokémon will be made to be Level 30 in the competition. In addition to that, there’s a new regulation included. In this competition, you can only have 20 battles per day, but if you participate in less than 20 in one day, you can make it up in another so if you make 15 battles in Day 1, then you can do 25 battles in Day 2. After the competition, there will be a survey on how it was run, running from February 28th to March 7th. We’ll bring full details, including confirmation of this, on Friday

Therefore, it is NOT Ubers, and although it is Doubles, it still has that sad, sad Lv. 30 cap.

I really don’t like the sound of a battle number cap, but I can see some of the advantages it would afford, namely, that those with less time won’t miss out on as much, and no one will be able to just keep winning and winning with no end.  The drawback is that one day of horrible luck is very hard to compensate for…

On a side note, it says the details were taken from Korean site. Plz get dingram to confirm.

    ???

  29. Thanks for pointing that out. : P  Edited.

I must say, while it is nice they are letting more people in later, I still can’t see myself entering it, just as I never entered the Global Showdown.  I just don’t find any format except VGC that appealing.

What does puzzle me is that they allow the National Pokedex, but only ban Mewtwo, Yveltal, Xerneas, and Zygarde, but none of the other Ubers.  They are making a dangerous assumption with not banning the rest because they cannot be caught in Kalos… Brings back the memory of the info that people have learned to hack pentagons onto Pokebank’d mons.  While this wouldn’t be such as issue in tournaments like Regionals, where the hack checks are stricter and you can actually call a judge to see what’s going wrong, this is only gonna use the in-game hack checks, which haven’t caught penta-hacked mons.

  30. mattj says:

Sounds like weird rated doubles? Any guesses on the L30?
