Nugget Bridge Circuit Season 3 Set to Begin

Big news for everyone who has been awaiting the next season of the Nugget Bridge Circuit! We’re back, bigger, and better than ever! Black and White are behind us and we now enter the age of X and Y. Along with that big change, the Nugget Bridge Circuit Season will have some major changes.

The most important and newsworthy changes:

The end of the season Nugget Bridge Invitational will have more players (32) and new ways to qualify. Now you don’t have to participate in a glut of Live Tournaments in an attempt to qualify. Like the past the Top 16 from the Live Circuit will receive invites, but in addition to that the Top 8 from the Nugget Bridge Major, the Top 2 Coro Coro Cup teams, and the last Invitational Top 2.

The Nugget Bridge Major will now be “separate” from the Live Tournament Circuit. The tournament will no longer award points towards an invite, but will now just give automatic invites to the Invitational as outlined above. Great prizes and tournament play will still play a part in the Major.

The Nugget Bridge Major will now be Swiss plus Top Cut. The Major has a history of some surprising bracket busters causing big names to lose early, and while we lose that moving to Swiss, the tournament becomes more in line with the modern day Video Game Championships.

A new team based tournament that gives invites to the Invitational for the top 2 teams. The rules will be based on the Coro Coro Cup tournament that was run in Japan during the 2013 VGC season.

Tournaments will no longer be seeded. This was a fun experiment for the first 2 seasons, but it was just more hassle than it was worth. It also often tilted the playing field a bit and we saw the same people get paired up over and over. Tournaments will still be in a bracket, but they will now be randomly assigned.

More than one Live Tournament a week. Still a work in progress and a lot of it depends upon the attendance numbers. If people play, we will continue to provide them a place to.

Late night live tournaments. In a bit of an effort to include Australia and North Americans who can’t make the other times we will begin a trial run of late night live tournaments. If we get the numbers, we will continue running these long term.

Circuit Points have been revamped. With the loss of the Major counting for points and more Live Tournaments, the best finish limit will be changed and points themselves will receive a makeover.

While the Standard ruleset for for the VGC ’14 season has not been announced, here on Nugget Bridge will we use Kalos Dex Only in the meantime. Item clause and Species clause all apply to Nugget Bridge Tournaments. The current rules allow for every Kalos Dex Pokemon with the exception of Yveltal, Xerneas, Mewtwo, and Zygarde. These rules are subject to change at any time and once we get the official ruleset from TPCi we will switch over to them.

The schedule right now isn’t 100% set in stone but what you can look forward to this season:

  • Live Tournaments every week from now until around US Nationals time. Days will be subject to change at a moments notice due to unforeseen TPCi influences or other important events in the World of Pokemon.
  • The Nugget Bridge Major starting in Late-January/Early-February.
  • Coro Coro Cup Rules tournament starting in Mid-April.
  • Nugget Bridge Invitational Mid-July.

We here are Nugget Bridge are excited for the upcoming Nugget Bridge Circuit Season and you can find more specific details like schedule and point values in the Online Tournament section of the forums. And last but certainty not least I personally want to thank all of our tournament hosts who help make tournaments on Nugget Bridge possible; without them we couldn’t provide the fun and excitement of the Nugget Bridge Circuit. Next time you play be sure to give some thanks to your host.

  2. ACarrVGC says:

So will sign up threads be created on the day of the tournament or is there one big thread prior to it? Also, where would they be located?

  3. Simon says:

    Usually around 3-4 hours.

Day of/Day before is usually when they go up though you won’t be able to post in them until an hour before it starts.

The Swiss one will last 3-4 hours. The single elimination tournament is maximum 2 hours if you make it all the way to the finals

  5. makiri says:

Side note for those of you who joined and played in the Major, a number of Circuit points will be given to people who finished above a certain threshold. The exact number is not known yet.

Also look forward to the announcement of the updated BFL for the live tournaments soon.

  6. SCR4FTY says:

    When is the corocoro cup?

    When is the corocoro cup?

I would like to know also. Probably will begin in the last week of april since the major tournament is still going on.

    Friday, May 30
    Thursday, June 5
    Saturday, June 14
    Wednesday, June 18

This will be the last block until Invitational, so it will also be the last chance to get points for the Circuit. I do apologize for being a slacker regarding updating points, it is a lot of work and I have been exceptionally busy. They should be updated soon so everyone knows where they stand.

  9. WonderPup says:

How often are slower-paced tournaments run (like the Majors)?  I’m very interested in playing in some of these, but the Live Tournament blocks don’t mesh well with my work schedule.

  10. makiri says:

While the Major is run once a year now, users are free to host their own tournaments with approval. This season there haven’t been very many of those so it has mostly been the lives unfortunately.

All right.  Thank you for the response.

Here’s a dumb question: how do I enter?

Here’s a dumb question: how do I enter?

You sign up when sign ups occur on the day of the live tourney, sign ups usually an hour before a live tourney i.e. http://nuggetbridge.com/forums/topic/5450-nugget-bridge-live-tournament-s3-26-won-by-fonicfrog/

  14. makiri says:

Basic rules for Dodrio Cup so people can prepare:
Teams will be made up of 3 players, no more, no less.
Species clause will apply across all 3 players. This includes all formes, if a Pokemon shares a Pokedex number with another Pokemon it is not allowed.

    Example of a BAD team:
Huy has Rotom, Goodra, Meowstic, Aerodactyl, Azumarill, Pikachu
Scott has Mawile, Slurpluff, Chesnaught, Conkeldurr, Rotom, Gyarados
Evan has Kangaskhan, Rotom, Salamence, Garchomp, Tyranitar, Ferrothorn

As you can see each team has a Rotom, this is not allowed. To fix their teams 2 of the players need to remove Rotom from their team.

    Example of a GOOD team:
Huy has Politoed, Goodra, Meowstic, Aerodactyl, Azumarill, Pikachu
Scott has Mawile, Slurpluff, Chesnaught, Conkeldurr, Aegislash, Gyarados
Evan has Kangaskhan, Rotom, Salamence, Garchomp, Tyranitar, Ferrothorn

As you can see here, there are no repeat Pokemon at all. This will be a legal team.

  15. Bopper says:

I’m assuming the tournament will be VGC 14 rules “npa” style (whichever team has 2 wins will win the set)?

  16. Fantom0 says:

How are the teams decided? Are you assigned to a team or do you have to find people? I’m a very lonely person :,(

  17. ScottMtc says:

How are the teams decided? Are you assigned to a team or do you have to find people? I’m a very lonely person :,(

Why don’t you team up with me, then? I’m lonely too  :(.
We just have to find another person.

  18. Ace2014 says:

If anyone needs a teammate I can do it, I’m known to come up with bizarre and crazy

  19. sableyemagma says:

When are sign ups for this dodrio cup? I want to know how long my team and I have to work.

  20. makiri says:

It is up to the players to gather a team. Since this tournament requires a lot of teamwork it is in your best interest to find people you know and like.

When are sign ups for this dodrio cup? I want to know how long my team and I have to work.

It was posted in the news story. April 21.

  21. UR2L8 says:

Oh this will be good, looking forward to it

  22. LLeonard says:

Hi guys, i don’t know if this is the right tread, sorry if it isn’t. I’m just team up with Nikoringking for the dodrio cup and we are looking for a
third member. PM me if you are interesting(sorry for any language mistake).

  23. Juses says:

It would be a good idea to open up a thread so people can assemble their team and so the signup thread isn’t flooded by those messages.

  24. makiri says:

Added a little blurb since I was getting questions:

“If any duplicate invites exist (a user gets more than 1 invite), the invite will then pass down via the Live Circuit until there are 32 non-duplicate invites.”

  25. AdrianD says:

Are each of these dates different tourneys or is it day one and each date there after is round 2, 3 etc

  26. makiri says:

Each date is a different tournament.

Ratings have been updated to be current, scores are slightly inflated while I figure out the BFL.

  27. Coolperson59 says:

I know that signups are on Monday but when exactly is the corocoro cup?
