Results & Teams from the VGC ’15 Gauteng Regionals

South Africa’s first Regional for VGC ’15 was held in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Attendance levels in South Africa are slowly growing, with a turnout of 24 players on the day a sign of bigger and better things to come. There were a few surprises with some newcomers earning Top Cut spots while some experienced campaigners came up just short. There were 5 rounds of Best-of-1 Swiss, followed by a Top Cut of 8 played in a Best-of-3 format.

Glad to see people still use Latios in this meta after the removal of dragon gen~ I wonder what sets are those two players running on him.

Agreed with the “too much water” sentiment- that’s what happens when you throw a team together, hungover, exactly 2 minutes after registration was supposed to close (thanks for stalling, SteveBaPanda…). Steve, Dale & Jayhonas each picked a Pokemon for me.

Cloyster was scarf & Latios was specs. Both were pretty underwhelming TBH. DalesHands team is actually the interesting one- it’s as far from standard as possible while sneakily looking very standard.

@a friendly mod, please can you move this out of Simple Requests?

Pretty interesting teams. ‘”Too much Water” indeed, especially when all teams but 1 had atleast 1 Water-type, and also 2 of teams had 3 Water-Types. Complete lack of Landorus-T, Mega Salamence and Mega Metagross, and only 1 Bisharp, Kangaskhan, Sylveon, Heatran, Terrakion and Cresselia was used, as opposed to Greninjas that was used on 3 different teams. Also seeing regular Salamence is interesting.

  10. BattleArena says:

Cloyster hard counters landorus T. notice the excessive lando counters in what I’m assuming is scarf Latios, water & ice Pokemon as well. It’s just the meta game adjusting to the most popular Pokemon in this split.
