Season 4 Nugget Bridge Major Enters Top Cut

Almost four months ago, registration opened for what would turn out to be the largest online Pokémon tournament in history. After nine long weeks of battling, we’ve finished the Swiss stage of the tournament and are moving into the single elimination top cut! All players who had two or fewer losses are moving on to the Round of 128. The undefeated players and the top performing players with only a single loss will receive byes into the Round of 64.

As before, each round will feature a best of three set as players inch forward through the prize pool. Everyone who has reached this stage of the event will receive some Nugget Bridge Circuit Points (NP) counting towards an invitation to the Nugget Bridge Invitational at the end of the season. Those who make the Top 4 will receive enough points for an invitation in addition to cash prizes. The full prizes are as follows:

  • 1st place: $300 + 120 NP
  • 2nd place: $150 + 110 NP
  • 3rd/4th place: $75 + 100 NP
  • 5th-8th place: $25 + 70 NP
  • 9th-16th place: 50 NP
  • 17th-32nd place: 30 NP
  • 33rd-64th place: 20 NP
  • 65th-128th place: 10 NP

Any questions or issues for Top Cut should be directed to the tournament forum thread or the tournament host, makiri.

This tournament would not be possible without the flight leaders who put in countless hours every week administrating the event. Thank you to Wyrms Eye, feathers, makiri, Hibiki, Gonzo, Unreality, Braverius, and majorbowman for their efforts throughout the event.

  1. 107 people in the NB Major 4 Top Cut. NB Major 1 only had 133 participants. 107 players have had to already win 7 or more battles just to reach a little past where the starting line used to be.

Got put into a lovely spot in the bracket:
    T128 face a friend
    T64 face a 9-0
T32 & T16 potentially face the two opponents who handed me my two defeats in Swiss.

Hopefully someone can get a predictions bracket going on the side. Since it isn’t a feature yet on Battlefy.

  3. Simon says:

Disappointed to not make it this time, good luck to most participants! I hope respected players with good sportsmanship take it all!

  4. Artemis Flynn says:

Congratulations to all who made it. It was a great experience for me.

  5. Good luck to all who made the end list ^_^

Another note was on how hard the flight leaders worked on this. I wanted to say my thanks for the hard effort that was put into organising their flights every week.
    Also MajorBowman has beautiful handwriting.

  6. Firestorm says:

Notice: Unfortunately there seems to have been an error affecting six matches during the seeding process. The following matches have changed as a result:

    lolnub vs nachocheese999
    Scott vs Vibez
    Prakhar vs Michilele
    ByronT vs  lucalucario
    ctrlaultdelete vs Darkpenguin67
    Talon vs Shinelo

    are now

    lolnub vs Vibez
    Scott vs Michilele
    Prakhar vs lucalucario
    ByronT vs nachocheese999
    ctrlaultdelete vs Shinelo
    Talon vs Darkpenguin67

The players on the right hand side of the matchups have not moved on the bracket. The ones on the left hand side have moved on the bracket and have been assigned the correct seed based on their Swiss placement. The affected players have been PMed.

Additionally, bracket predictions are now available here: http://nuggetbridge.challonge.com/nbm4cut
There will not be any prizes outside of bragging rights for the prediction tournament at this time.

One thing people should remember about predicting stuff in the NB Majors Top Cut. a lot of upsets are going to happen. Expect to see brackets set on fire, quickly, and in mass number in the next few days.

    Provided that they haven’t already.

  8. Tokiwa says:

I simply mean that in the final round of the Swiss administrators were won my opponent no reason. (favoritism) And this has also happened to many of my friends who participated in the tournament.

    1) Makiri has stated at times in the past that there may be some kind of technical difficulties, or some errors by flight leaders that mean matches are reported wrong. When you consider how many matches flight leaders have to decide I can understand a few errors.
    2) I don’t know your situation-you may have been inactive and they may have given your opponent a win based on activity. You may not have been able to play your match and it was the result of a coin toss.

I suggest taking it to makiri/your flight leaders. They can’t do anything about it now-the bracket is already up, has been for a few days, and matches have been played, so its too inconvenient for all to restart. But maybe mentioning it to them can reduce the amount of times this might happen in the future.

This post has the right intentions but is not accurate. If matches were “won by your opponent no reason”, what happened was either a coin flip happened and you lost it, or activity happened and you lost it. All activity and flips has been documented extensively by the flight leaders and if you have any specific matches in question we would be more than happy to look into it for you.

If there were errors, I can guarantee you that complaining about it in this manner is absolutely the incorrect way to go about it. I am a tournament organizer who screwed up two times and each time the situation was resolved within a day fairly for the participants.

  11. Hibiki says:

It’s okay, Tokiwa took this to about 5 flight leaders already, makiri’s decision was in line with the rules of the tournament and far from what they call favoritism.
If anyone else feels a decision has been made without proper justification at any point, feel free to contact your flight leaders or makiri. The bracket won’t be changed anymore, but you can help us avoid mistakes in the future.
But please don’t do it like a certain user and spam various threads and members with the same issue over and over.

I am a tournament organizer who screwed up two times and each time the situation was resolved within a day fairly for the participants. Errors are incredibly infrequent and the fact that this happened to “many of your friends” shows me that there is a lack of understanding of the rules,

Sorry if I’ve misspoken here. I’m also not sure if you quoted the right person-I too was trying to explain to Tokiwa what may have happened based on tournament rules and the endless posts makiri had to make (which not enough people read).
