Teams from the VGC ’14 Spring Regionals
The second set of events since the release of Pokémon X & Y have finished and it’s time to look at what Pokémon were used by players who occupied the top of the standings in April. Keep in mind that we’ll be taking a very high level look at things, so we do not have details like items, natures, moves, or EV spreads, which players use to really set their Pokémon apart.

About the Author
Braverius started playing competitive Pokemon in April 2011. Since then he has been fortunate enough to compete in numerous official live events, qualifying for Worlds in 2013 and winning four Regionals along the way.
Ummm….. Is there any teams for Seniors??? Just curious 😐
Seniors did use teams as far as I know but none of them have put the effort in to compile them so a list does not exist. If someone wants to do the work, we can publish it.
Okay… Thx for telling me 🙂
This is matt vang from top 8 http://nuggetbridge.com/forums/user/1662-master-saurd/
Interesting how as the regions are less developed, the number of kangashkans increase..
nice work zach in putting this altogether. I’m always glad to know of what people ran/are running.
Cool to see a Reuniclus in a team that won a regional.
Awesome!
I never realized how many people had double megas; that’s never something I’ve gotten to work. I also wanna know how Squirtwo placed third with a Kecleon. I mean, Mr. Mime, Rhydon, Trevenant are a little crazy in their own right, but Kecleon.

Cool stuff.
There’s a pretty big drop off between Aegislash and Mawile. Going from 20 -> 14.
Incidently, Aegislash is #6.
#BIGSIX.
Who cares that there are two Rotom Formes within the six, thus making it an illegal team.
There are 20 Pokemon that only showed up on a single top cut team at any Spring Regional…
squirtwo has the most with three. (Trevenant, Mr. Mime, Kecleon)
Chinese Dood and I have two. (Gengar, Raichu and Blastoise, Smeargle respectively)
The following other players had 1 on their team (non forum names in italics):
Ray (Wigglytuff)
Arti (Lanturn)
KingDedede16 (Jolteon)
Emilio Orozco (Slowking)
Ian Packer (Dragonite)
Sabaku (Gothitelle)
Purim (Delphox)
Isaac Van Name (Goodra)
whatthechuck3 (Pyroar)
Syncie (Liepard)
Ezekiel (Noivern)
MrEobo (Chesnaught)
Legend (Pinsir)
Seattle was the regional with the most of these Unique Pokemon with 7. Athens had 5, Salt Lake City had 4, Madison had 2, and the last two had one each.
Rotom-H: 21, Rotom-W: 24
Rise my ovens, rise!
I can attest to Squirtwo’s team being well thought out and very much deserving of the 3rd place finish. I don’t want to ruin anything for when/if he does an article of his team, but the defensive nature of his team is astounding and I am looking forward to see what changes he will make for nationals.
Congrats to all that played! Real interested on seeing Squirtwo’ report on such a different team list to those others you see on the list. The number of Aegislash and Aerodactyl seem to be getting real popular after Battle Gloria…
Hmmm…Talonflame was used only 11 times. These good players probably realized how bad it really is.
I actually didn’t battle a single talonflame in Utah which surprised me a lot.
Fairly certain that Mike Suleski (OmegaDonut) used Garchomp over Gardevoir when he was on stream.
I have to add that Kecleon was used by Rina Purdy at Manchester Tournament earlier this year, she managed to top cut the event too. It can be used incredibly well offensively with access to Protean and Trick Room 🙂 Congratulations to Squirtwo for bringing the Pokemon to Regional level, its great to see someone not playing with a “safe” team at such a prestigious event and pulling it off well!
John Rust’s team from Washington was Vaporeon / Garchomp / Azumarill / Aegislash / Charizard / Manectric
I also had Conkeldurr in addition to Goodra, which also didn’t show on the usage stats posted by Zach. Not that Conkeldurr shows up on a top list of anything nowadays.
Ben Demian from Seattle had: Chandelure, Garchomp, Abomasnow, Conkeldurr, Tyranitar, Reuniclus
Mad props to Squirtwo for that kecleon. I’d really like to see moveset and ev-spreads from that one
Updated with info from this thread.
If you’re doing seniors, I’ll go ahead and post my team (this is Tyler C., by the way):
Aromitisse, Chandelure, Mawile, Vaporeon, Conkeldurr, and Reuniclus.
I was at the Athens regionals, too.
The probably most discussed team here is actually really similar to my own version of Sunroom (I used it in the european friendly against Deku) consisting of Trevenant, Scrafty, Rhydon and Charizard (building the core) with Aerodactly for wide guard support and mawile to have an offensive TR mode.
I really like the thought of Mr.Mime, solving that wide guard problem and having the very good fairy type combined in one Pokémon, I think I give it a try now, too.
But what makes this team so special and fascinating for me is the addition of Kecleon- I don´t know it yet, but I would be amazed if he used Skill swap to make use of drought, Lightningrod and intimidate and just to think about that makes me feel nostalgic about my Sun Team from last year.
I really hope to see a report of this team and kudos to Squirtwo for placing high with it!
I am Patrick Glynn and my Team was Aegislash, Scrafty, Mega-manectric, Mega Kangaskhan, Salamence, and Gardevoir. To prove it my top 16 opponent was Ian Packer and top 8 was Jack Pendleton.
Does anyone know if Tony’s Gengar was Mega? If so, what EV spread he used? I’ve been looking for some inspiration for my EV spread on mine.
TonyCheung’s gengar was mega. Believe it was 252hp 4def 252spa modest
Hey yes, my Gengar was a Mega Gengar. The spread is 252 HP 4 Def 252 Speed Timid.
I will have a team report/analysis written up in the next couple days.
Did you end up writing anything? Your team is still my favourite this season
