Nugget Bridge Major 4 Swiss Final Round

The last round of Swiss for the Nugget Bridge Major is here! After nine long weeks we will put a close to the first stage of the largest online Pokemon tournament ever. I would like to personally thank every participant who joined and followed all of the rules to help make this a smooth tournament. For most of you this will be your last round. I hope you received valuable experience through playing in this tournament and that it translates to success in TPCi’s Video Game Championships. For some players this is your most important round as only players who finish with a record of 7-2 or better will advance to the Top Cut. I wish you all the best of luck in making it. Finally to the rest of you who have already secured Top Cut, there are still byes and seeding at stake for you so don’t hold back!

A final thanks to all the flight leaders in this tournament. Without them there is no way this tournament could have been successful. If you ever see these people at a tournament give them your thanks. They put countless hours into this tournament, enduring headaches that are hard to imagine to make sure this tournament runs as smoothly as possible.

Thank you everyone.

As a reminder here is the bracket. Please read the kick off post for instructions on reporting your score and messaging your opponent.

Flight Leaders are an important part of this tournament, make sure you are using them properly. Please do not spam them with requests and private messages. They are busy people and they will eventually be able to help you. In case you may have forgotten these are your Flight Leaders (they have not changed):

Deadline for this round Monday, April 13th, 2015 at 11:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time.

If you’re in Flight D, please make sure you contact the right opponent. There was a re-pair though I doubt anyone saw it given it was done in about ~10 minutes. Pairings are final now.

I’m looking forward to an extremely competitive top cut. 9 rounds/10 weeks was a long time, and with that being said, thanks for this well run tournament guys :)

  3. duffy says:

Great experience, thank you for hosting it! Good luck to all for the last round :)

  4. Sam says:

Thanks to everyone involved for running this, excellent tournament. At times I think people didn’t fully realize just how stressful running a 1000+ person tournament is, but organizers and flight leaders worked hard and did a great job to give an incredible experience to everyone. Good luck to everyone in the last round, hopefully everyone plays out their last round regardless of if they can cut or not.

Played 2 incredibly fun and intense matches against Tman for our final swiss rounds. Both matches played similarly close until… I froze his pokemon two games in a row. The second match mattered a lot more than the first, but I am utterly disappointed with myself and the game. Hax isn’t an enjoyable aspect of the game to me regardless of which side I’m on and I’m absolutely sorry that I could not give Tman the battles be deserved.

Thanks to Tman for the great matches and once again I apologize for the hax.

    Flight B. I got the win 2-0.

Is there a 32 Topcut for each flight? Because every round it says in the rules:
The top 32 players or all players with 2 or fewer losses (whichever is the larger number) will make it to the top cut single elimination stage

But in the new article it says only 7-2 or better will make cut

  7. Keonspy says:

I wish i had more opponent that actually could fight, I played like 3 battles out of 8 right now. (one of those battles I didnt have was my own fault, so hopefully next time I can battle all 9 of the battles)

Top 32 was the minimum size of top cut, not the number of people per flight to make cut. Sorry for any confusion. I didn’t realize it was being interpreted that way until it was pointed out to me last week and I changed it to be more clear.

We were initially going to do one flight of around 550 to 600 players and cut to 32 but realized there are spots where x-2s can miss so wrote it that way. When the sign ups passed 1024 we decided to split it into flights which meant we would no longer have a top 32 cut.

  9. FlashSentry says:

Thanks to everyone who put this together and has dedicated their time into this! Had a great time being able to play and good luck to those who make cut, and are a battle away from cut!

  10. Makenzie says:

So that means only 7-2’s will cut now? Thanks for clarifying.

  11. Legacy says:

Firestorm broke the heart of all the x-3s that still had hope of cutting. Regardless of not making cut take it as a learning experience. Personally I learned to not underestimate seniors. Either that or I am washed up.

  12. Firestorm says:

Yeah I’d really like to apologize for not being clear. We had people dropping as they hit x-3 the entire time and had no idea there was confusion. All the conversations I’d had with people up to last week indicated they knew it was x-2 makes the next stage like at US Nationals / Worlds.

  13. Makenzie says:

It’s fine.Thank you for clearing it up.

  14. Kira says:

Amazing tournament, and I may be a bit biased sitting at 5-3 but maybe something to consider for future years would be a single wild card player from each flight in the form of the highest rated 6-3 player to give some hope to those who maybe lost 3 games a little earlier, and keep people interested longer.

Thanks again for the time and effort from the flight leaders and organizers.

  15. Zekira Drake says:

OK I know I’m grasping at straws here, but what if the count of 7-2s or better don’t end up being a 2^n number? Will some 6-3s make a bubble or no?

(yes I’m still clinging to my 5-3 T_T)

From what it seems, top cut will be exclusively X-2 or better, with the top players receiving round 1 byes. No love for 6-3… :(

  17. Eiganjo says:

Obvious thanks to all the flight leaders as well. This must not have been an easy task so mucho respect for all of you.
I was under the impression that it would be x-2’s or top 32 for every flight, guess that misunderstanding was cleared up, no matter though :)

  18. Tokiwa says:

In the Final Round. My opponent has not shown up when he said. I’ve been waiting an hour. And they gave victory to my rival. I because? I want to know the reason.

    Thanks.
