Introducing the Nugget Bridge Pokémon Damage Calculator

A key part of teambuilding is tweaking your Pokémon’s stat spread so you achieve the optimal stats to survive the right attacks and grab the right knock outs. To do this, players play around with the effort values, natures, and other attributes on their Pokémon in a damage calculator until they reach the desired results. We have many articles written about this subject. The most widely used damage calculator for the past two generation has been Honko’s in-depth implementation. Honko put a lot of time into listening to the wants of our community, but it is designed to handle Smogon’s many custom formats. As a result, it can be more painful to use for those who are only interested in playing the Standard format used in the Pokémon Championship Series.

Today, we’re proud to introduce the Nugget Bridge Pokémon Damage Calculator! It takes the amazing work that Honko — and later gamut —  put in to make the most comprehensive damage calculator available and streamlines it for those interested in the Video Game Championships (VGC). Pokémon default to level 50 and Doubles is selected as the default format as well. Additionally, all sets from Smogon have been removed to declutter the Pokémon selection process. In their place, we’ve inserted the most common stat spread, nature, item, and moves for each Pokémon from Pokémon Showdown to make for quick defaults to calculate for or against. These will be updated on a monthly basis as a result of Tapin’s awesome work.

If you see anything that looks off or have a suggestion, please make a post in our feedback thread.

Note: Where you select Mega Pokémon has changed. If  you select a Pokémon that can mega evolve, a Forme field will appear under Type for you to easily choose the non-Mega or Mega forme so you can see how the same spread works for both formes of the Pokémon.

i know this is really minor and unimportant , but mega charizard x is not on the calculator under the charizard formes

  2. HydreigonTamer says:

    No Mega-Scizor. *tears*

  3. Biscuit says:

As everyone else has already said, this is absolutely brilliant.

A suggestion for the future, perhaps: Would it be possible to include common battlespot movesets/natures/items as an option as well? Obviously this can’t include EV spreads, and I do understnad just how much work this might well require, but even alongside the common Showdown spreads this could well also be very useful information

    No Mega-Scizor

You can get it under a blank set, but there’s no “common” set on there for it apparently

  4. Firestorm says:

I think it might not be pulling the Mega if it’s not the most commonly used.

We did have Battle Spot in there but removed it just before publishing it because it was fairly similar but without default spreads to work from. Joe did some great work on that so hoping to use that information in other ways.

For any spread that you think isn’t the most common, I can’t change the average Showdown user. If you want to calc against something else, you can still modify the spreads. I can look at bringing the average rating used for this a bit higher but you want to calc against what’s commmon so doing just the Top 100 players isn’t helpful.

  5. Tapin says:

Thanks for posting this, Firestorm!  The CSS looks awesome.

I suspect there are still a number of bugs, since my own tests only account for ~15 of Scott’s 50, and maybe even less than that; I just created this thread to track bugs & feature requests.

  6. Tapin says:

Regarding mega stones: That’s work that Gamut has done that he hasn’t actually made live on his own calculator yet; I like how it allows flipping between mega/non-mega formes without resetting everything, but it’s definitely a slightly more obscure way to do it if you’ve already been using Honko’s & gamut’s versions.  Firestorm’s guess about why some formes don’t show up is right — the way that feature was implemented, it only shows a forme if the most common item is a mega stone.  That’s definitely near the top of my list to change; I think all mega formes should be selectable regardless of held item.

  7. HydreigonTamer says:

Oh, I see. The Scizor can only be selected Mega if you get a Blank Set. Thanks, Biscuits.

  8. Cipher says:

This is beautiful and all of you are beautiful people for doing it.  Bookmarked.

I somewhat second the notion that megas should be separate entries a la the Showdown calculator, as I think that’s slightly easier, but that’s definitely far, far down on the list of any complaints I might have.  Really, I’d have been sold on default level 50 alone.

  9. Keonspy says:

    i like this very much

  10. Pirate Lion Inferno says:

This is orgasmic. I appreciate all of your hard work. Thank you so much!

  11. Biosci says:

I don’t have to change level, nature, EVs, and moveset every time I calc now? Excellent

    Thank you very much Rushan

  12. rapha says:

Thank you for doing this you beautiful people <3

I’d like to disagree with the notion that Megas should be given separate entries. Unless it’s possible to distinguish move set and EV data between Pokemon holding a mega stone and those that aren’t (thereby creating a usefulness for separating them), I think the ability to switch between non-mega and mega forms at will is a functionality that should be maintained. Once people inevitably get used to the layout used in the Nugget Bridge calculator this issue will cease to exist.

Amazing job! The vibe from it is just wonderful as it is not as cluttered as the other ones. The design is perfect. It is simple and easy to read and find stuff. The brightness/color is just right. Keep up the good work! Do you ever plan on speaking to Pokemon Showdown and adding this to the !calc and /calc command or do one entirely separate for the VGC room?

  16. Demyx says:

Finally I don’t have to change all of smogon’s sets to VGC. This is super convenient, Thanks!

  17. Betewee says:

Btw l know it’s not that relevant whatsoever but you could add the effect of friend guard into it, still it’s a great idea and it will save a lot of time! Thanks!

  18. Betewee says:

Btw one thing which could be added is the effect of sitrus berry, it’s quite annoying trying to calc without it factoring sitrus berry. Another thing that could be added is the effect of friend guard, it’s not that relevant but it’s still viable. This new calculator is still very convenient even without the effects of sitrus berry and friend guard and it will definitely save me a lot of time changing from level 100 to 50 and smogon sets to vgc sets. Thanks a lot!

  19. This looks awesome! The set selections seem kinda empty, but it’ll eventually get expanded on.

  20. aussieman000 says:

Love this, it’s going to save me a lot of time not having to change the levels of stuff. Which is handy, now that semester is starting up again. Thanks a lot.

  21. Legacy says:

Great job on the calculator guys!! Now if we can get a VGC timer on showdown that would be even more amazing. :)

  22. This is a great step for us vgc players! Next, an app!

  23. Xleaxgz says:

The only thing I would want is the one vs all and all vs one options, they’re a godsend on the showdown default calculator.

  24. Retro says:

This is so helpful! Thanks you so much, guys!

  25. PowerOfNick says:

Does Mega Kangaskhan work on this calculator as well? I know that in the past there have been a few that don’t calculate that correctly, and I was just wondering if that was fixed here. Otherwise, it looks really nice and clean, and I can’t wait to start using it!

  26. MrScaryMuffin says:

Awesome! Now…can we get this on an app for Android?

That’s fair.  I can see the appeal of this setup too.
