Congrats to Spain for taking this one, well done. Had a great day and it was really great to meet up with familliar and new faces too. Also congrats for Jamie for getting as far as you did, watching your team on the big screen was awesome.

  2. TitoVic says:

Habak, in the tournament preview absolutly no mention to Deku and Sekiam, two very strong players who do very great perfomances last years, only a bit talk about Flash, is a really facepalm, spaniards are completly underestimated.

  3. Cache says:

Congratulations to the whole Spanish army guys who traveled to Manchester, you made a great performance, specially Deku and Sekiam! Congrats to Nico too, one of the best seniors ever, if he wins in Italy, it will be (poke)epic!

If they post more on the forums and announce their attendance, maybe I would include them? Why should I write about players who I don’t even know are attending?

Albert also only posted after I had completed the article.

  5. Accelerator says:

Congratz to Deku for taking the win. 20th place ain’t bad so i’m pleased with my performance lol.

  6. Cache says:

I can notice what TitoVic wants to remark, but I agree with Havak. I quote:

Last year’s runner-up, http://nuggetbridge.com/author/flash/, is travelling from Spain again and has to be another serious contender given his past performances. It’s very likely that more Spanish players will join him, but once again information is scarce in this regard.”

It’s completely understandable that he only talks about what he know; he also said that he doesnt talk about other spaniards just because he had no information about their attendance, that’s all. There’s no need to hesitate. At least, it’s what he said, and I think it would be a mistake to understimate anyone for that reason. However, it’s seems like Spanish players are still a little understimated, not only in quality but also in amount. Spain deserves a VGC, and I think these guys have proved it this weekend.

I saw two updates about Seniors and zero on Juniors all weekend. If we are to have more coverage of those age divisions, people at the event need to actually tell the rest of us about them.

  11. Pokeguru01 says:

Congratulations to Arbol, and to Sekiam for doing so well!! I have to say, this was my best experience at a national competition, thanks to everyone there for making it so, I’m really looking forward to next year, or until another event where I’ll get to meet up with everyone again!!

  12. MSK says:

Well now my boy is in Juniors as well I’ll try and drop some updates on that too ;)

  13. StandardGuy says:

    ¡Felicidades Deku!

Parece que le vas tomando la medida al VGC en UK.

  14. Ty Flowsion says:

I’m proud to say that I am Terence Dray in 10th place. I met some really great people that made my first tournament such a great experience, and I hope to see you all again at future events. Also, thanks for all of the kind words about my team (Timo, Pedro, Tyler and others)

    You’re amazing–

    Ly offset.

Gj deku! It’s pretty cool how nationalistic the European circuit gets.

  16. AlphaZealot says:

Thank you everyone for coming out to the event.

Three things I would like to address.

    1. In Round 7 of Swiss there was a communication issue on one of the featured matches. The ruling was to have the match replayed – this is consistent with the situation that occurred a year ago at Italian Nationals and I http://nuggetbridge.com/forums/topic/1527-italy-2013-feedback-thread/?p:

For the game that was disrupted: the judge staff reviewed actual video footage provided by a spectator to determine how much time had come off the clock due to the communication error (equipment fault not caused by player(s)). The players were informed prior to this that the following action would be taken:

    • If we could not find a video to review, the game would be replayed due to the doubt in outcome
    • If we could find a video to review, the game would be replayed if it showed enough time came off the clock to allow another action to take place (an assumed 3rd protect, of which we would not know the result and therefore the outcome of the game would have been in doubt)
    • If we could find a video to review, the game would stand as played if it showed not enough time came off the clock to allow another action to take place (if this were the case the communication error would have been irrelevant and victory was inevitable)
While the error was unfortunate, this was, I believe, the best and proper approach after said error occurred. The judge staff determined upon video review that enough time came off the clock to have allowed an additional turn that we would not know the outcome of, so the decision was made to replay the game.

Action was also taken to ensure this error would not occur again in other future matches.

The situation was similar – a proper determination of who would win the match could not occur since time came off the clock, without fault to either player, that would have allotted at least 1 more turn. Unlike last year we did not have great video to review (nor likely the time to try to decipher it as this was during Swiss), but several witnesses quoted the time that ran off as between one and four minutes. As the outcome was in doubt due to this the match was replayed.

We took steps to prevent this from occurring again by marking where players should place their 3DS to have optimal communication with the Black Box display units.

    2. We once again ran into a delay after registration (9A to 11AM was the announced VG registration window) and did not have Round 1 for Masters VG started until 2:30PM – this is certainly disappointing. Many changes were made after last year and I apologize that this occurred again. We were still able to complete Swiss by between 8PM and 9PM depending on which flight players were in and I feel Sunday was a huge success for those who made Top Cut – I hope everyone enjoyed watching some of the matches this weekend.

    3. As always I appreciate the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the Pokémon community – continue to set good examples and be positive when attending events and interacting with each other both in person and online.

  17. MSK says:

Any idea when CP from this and the IC will update on the Official site?

  18. AlphaZealot says:

Junior and Senior results are uploaded and Championship Points should be updated within 24 hours – though there are at least several players who used incorrect IDs or have not signed up for the Play! Pokémon program (particularly Junior division players).

Masters will take at least an additional day due to merging two flights together.

  19. Thank you for allowing the rematch in round 7. Even though I lost in the end, I felt like that match could have gone much differently if the communications was better, and being 5-1 then I knew that I needed at least one win to maybe top cut. Setting up the table with tape to mark where the 3DS should be afterwards was a great idea.

Interestingly enough Sekiam and I had another match at that exact station in the semi final match. The judge looked quite shocked haha.

  20. 13Yoshi37 says:

After the incident with Sekiam, Massi, DaFlo and I tested some things with our 3DS in the hotel. We realized that it was very very easy to turn the 3DS a little bit to the left and get the connection to freeze, while the time still runs down. It was especially interesting that we were able to create the situation that the turn was being shown on one 3DS, while the other player still had the connection thing.
We think that it is very easy to time stall on purpose and would suggest to reimplement the mats with the marking that were used in 2011 or to improve the IR connection on the next system (wireless wouldn’t have the problem but it would be difficult to connect with the actual opponent so that does not seem like a possibility in live events as big as Nationals at the moment).

I think it was cool that both players involved in that game got to top cut and even to top4, so the incident didn’t matter as much in the end.

  21. melevin9 says:

someone managed to record the final and put it on youtube if anyone wants to see it
