  3. MrJellyLeggs says:

I approve of Thomas Selby very much, and am very curious as to what Whiscash did.

  4. Arcade says:

Jim’s Full Starter team tho. That might be my favorite team this regional.

Mah boi BAEley in top 16<3

It seems the Australian metagame has changed a lot from last year. Barring the Whiscash and the team of 6 start mons, most of this stuff is really similar to other metas in other countries.

  7. Creature says:

I love how top 4 for seniors is Kang, Kang, Kang, Kang.

  8. UR2L8 says:

Looking forward to Jim Sullivan’s report, should he write one up.

  9. GreatTornado says:

Loving that team variety in seniors.

Also, I didn’t realise at all that Layne is Lejn I feel stupid now

  10. kibago11 says:

Jim Sullivan is da real MVP.

  11. Codek says:

I’m a friend of Thomas, so just wanted people to know that the wishcash he used was literally a swampert without being an actual swampert

  12. lv100combee says:

Just if you want to add another username to the article, I’m Nicholas Vella, fifth in masters.

Really enjoyed this tournament, pretty hype for Nats now

  13. Mitch says:

    my understanding it was:

Expert belt, Max HP, Max SpA, Min Speed

    – Muddy water
    – Ice Beam
    – Earth power
    – protect

Not sure why this over gastrodon, can’t confirm though.

  14. BattleArena says:

Rotom W is just as good of a counter to the genies as it was in 2013. Great to see it at number one somewhere. 😀

  15. calexander1337 says:

After seeing all your whishcash theories (barring one who claims to know him, which I believe), I’d like to spread my theory.
Role play machamp –> no guard onto fissure whishcash in trick room.
Although that was a long shot I think it’d be goofy as hell yet funny to do that

  16. Queejibo says:

Whiscash doesn’t learn Role Play, just fyi.

  17. IntensifyVGC says:

Well… Seniors learn nothing from this.  Couldn’t be more standard.

  18. Codek says:

Wishcash was used over gastrodon because he wanted the surprise factor

  19. gabo0 says:

The guy who came second in seniors was me btw, if you need some info on my team, just PM me, I’d be happy to help :)

  20. Dawg says:

“Well… Seniors learn nothing from this. Couldn’t be more standard.”
    – Apologies for not citing properly, But this is the worst attitude to take from this. What seniors can learn is that standard teams are standard for a reason, that using good, consistent, popular teams is a very good idea in regards to doing well in Australia. The seniors meta game is already subjective enough without considering the “randomness” of Australia without picking “different mons” – there isn’t really a distinguished enough metagame to make so called meta calls – maybe with a more standard define meta like the one illustrated in cut people can make better meta calls. Sorry for turning this into a long post but I really want to get across the idea ‘there is always something to be learned’

Did they give you a book to write notes in and would they give you a book at Melbourne Nationals?

No, you have to either bring your own or don’t write notes at all.

  23. Xenoblade Hero says:

Seeing Azumarill, Entei and Weavile coming first and second in Seniors doesn’t exactly strike me as “standard”, not that it needs to be

I do wish people would stop looking at a Kangaskhan, genies etc in a team preview and immediately deeming the team “standard” and “unoriginal”. I’m not usually one to be confrontational but it really bugs me that this has happened in multiple Regional reports now. Salamence-Mega, Charizard-Mega and Metagross-Mega are just as “standard”, heck anything with a Pokemon in the top twelve is seemingly deemed that now since there’s plenty of original team concepts and synergies in this report. Additionally, you do not know what items the Pokemon are running, their EV’s, their moves etc so branding them without even scratching the surface is rash.

  24. No, you have to either bring your own or don’t write notes at all.

That sucks. I’ll just buy a new book to write in. :D

    You nailed it.

Melbourne was fun :) Hopefully I do just as well at Nats!

  27. bargens says:

Glad to have made top cut, but still gotta prove I’m not a one hit wonder :]

For those curious of Wishcash team/Starter team I have heard from players who played them throughout Swiss/top cut that Wishcash was in fact EP/Ice Beam/Scald/Protect (as was mentioned already) and the starter team was a Pledge team with Scarfed Typhlosion :)

  28. Makenzie says:

The article won’t open for me.It says error establishing database connection and all other articles are now not opening.

  29. MegaPinsir says:

Hey, does anyone know if the Australian Nationals is an open event or do I need championship points to enter. There aren’t any VGC events where I live so I don’t have any points but I would really like to compete.
