21Teams from the VGC ’14 Melbourne Regional Championship
Melbourne held its Regional Championship over the weekend and managed to make it the biggest Pokémon event in the country to date, eclipsing Sydney’s record last week by over 100. There were a total of 376 people attending the event with 272 Masters, 62 Seniors and 42 Junior competitors battling it out for the title of champion. The tournament was single elimination with best of 3 sets until the quarter finals, when it changed to a best of 1 due to time constraints. The battles were intense, the atmosphere was electric, and the overall day was amazing! There were an uneven number of competitors going into the top 16 for Masters and the quarter finals for Seniors, so all the teams are listed. As it was single elimination the only set places we know for certain are the top 4 in each division, with the rest being classified as “top 9” and/or “top 17” respectively on the day.

Lapras is slowly becoming a trend, it seems! Some interesting mons, though. Namely Zoroark, Lapras, Steelix, and Espeon. A lot of the teams seem standard, but there is still some nice diversity. And also cool to see another second place team without a mega!
*cries manly tears of joy after seeing Steelix in Juniors top 4*
Fullmetal Steelix is rising again. Prepare yourselves.
Chris G placing top 4 in Pokemon, amazing.
It looks like there is a team with 2 Talonflames and a team with 2 Salamences. You might want to fix that if you can.
Anyone else see the two teams that have two of the same pokemon? The talonflames and the salamence?
steelix?
Lapras is my favorite pokemon to use this gen.
Thanks for that mudkip I totally missed it. Ill send them a message with the edit.
For the record 2nd place seniors should have a Ferrothorn and not two Talonflames.
1st place Juniors should have Mega Kangaskhan and not two Salamences.
LAPRAS IS GOOD AGAIN?!
Rusty, I sent you a message on your profile. Please check!!
2nd place didn’t have a mega? I’m moving to Aus, end of story.
Hahaha Dayne didn’t have a Mienshao, he had a Mega Lucario.
Awwwwww not as fun
For those wondering the team that Michael Z used (Blui129) was made out of 6 random mons i had in my boxes at the time xD
EDIT: This was over Facebook and he was at home 20mins before registration started
‘Hayden’ who came 2nd in Juniors is actually called Kaden.
Ohhhh why didn’t he correct me when I wrote it down hahaha…
VGC is getting too predictable 🙁 There is a Rotom in most teams and a Salamence. And in past tournaments Kangaskhan is way too OU. I hope people will experiment on different Pokemon 😀
That’s why I asked the question the other day about what pokemon people think can work in VGC, that aren’t necessarily used
Im so glad the top 9 teams in seniors were published as it will make teambuilding around the Melbourne metagame a lot easier. Thanks again Rusty
No probs man.. Was going to do more, but it was getting a bit rushed due to time and having to be out of the building by a certain time hahaha. I’ll hopefully have top 16 for each division at nats.. maybe 32 for masters.. will wait and see.
