Round 3 Power Rankings, Matchup Projection, and more!

Hi everyone, I’m Zach and taking over for Scott this week. I decided to waste four hours of my night and utilize something I’m brutally addicted to: spreadsheets. So I not only got the weekly power rankings, but I also did power rankings relative to the round and showed my process in how I determined that. Enjoy.

Overall Power Rankings

# Name Round 3 Win Round Top 4 Top 2 Win Total Comments
Wolfey 63 48 35 23 12 181 Surprise surprise, Wolfe on top. This week’s matchup is appealing, as well as the majority of the schedule ahead of him until top 4.
Crow 48 29 18 12 6 113 Might have too much swag to deal with this week. If he can get past that, he’s got even tougher sledding with Nightblade and Huy ahead.
Human 45 27 15 8 5 100 One of the toughest matchups for him yet this week, but if he can get past this, he should have a week to prepare for a possible showdown with KoK.
R Inanimate 51 25 7 5 5 93 Styro shouldn’t be overlooked as he’s solid in these types of tournies, but if he makes it past Styro, it’s either Huy or Nacho. Neither is welcoming.
Nightblade7000 43 22 15 7 3 90 Got pitted against Pfruit, one of the most interesting matches of the tournament so far. If he makes it past, a match with Crow looms large.
Huy 39 24 10 5 2 80 Huy gets his first major challenge of the tournament so far, going up against a top 4 senior last year and top 8 regional master this year.
Dim 39 27 7 2 1 76 Dim gets Wer, who is currently ranked dead last in the current round’s power rankings. Can he avoid the upset and move on?
Kingofkongs 38 17 4 2 1 62 Is doing well as usual in live tournaments, but his Dark(eness) horse opponent is a consistent player and should provide a good challenge.
Fish 21 11 5 3 2 42 Grizzly is the only opponent I see that I don’t recognize. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming…
Fonicfrog 14 12 10 3 2 41 Brutal matchup with Human, but I know he wants to win this one badly. That should be the marquee match of the week.
Fishy 24 4 4 2 0 34 Has a very well-rounded team and took down MrFox last round, but V17 is playing knowing there’s a lot of bad implications if he loses.
Nachocheese999 15 8 4 1 1 29 Match against Huy should be very interesting as it pits two very different players against each other. After that, another west coast trainer is possible.
Pfruit 13 7 2 1 0 23 The battle of the underperformers…we always rate these two super high, but now one gets to show us they belong there. Will Pfruit step up?
DrFidget 11 7 4 0 0 22 As good as his matchup vs Cakes might look via the prediction pool, it’s not so great in reality. It’ll take a lot of Houndoom to advance.
Evan Falco 9 3 2 2 0 16 Gets Nickscor this week after showing lesser Evan that he is greater Evan, even though he is not technically Evan. Take that, Evan.
Nickscor 11 1 1 0 0 13 Top 8 Cali 2013 vs Cali Champion 2012. Super interesting west coast matchup.
Kinderlew 8 2 1 1 1 13 Crow sees the red pants, Hawaiian shirt, and plastic aviators. His strength has doubled, but regardless, he is confused.
Cakesofspan 7 2 1 1 0 11 I’m going out on a limb and saying Cakes has the best chance for an “upset” this round than anyone else. As long as he has his Foongus, he has a good chance.
Snake 7 2 1 0 0 10 Gets some scouting help from Cybertron on his opponent, will kswas change his team or solely use his ability to tame the Snake?
Mrbopper 6 3 1 0 0 10 Lots of this ranking comes from Magma, but don’t sleep on Bopper. He’s a super consistent performer in Wi-Fi tournies that could sneak into the deep rounds.
Koryo 4 1 1 0 0 6 Koryo gets up here because of one person picking him in top 4, but he is a good player, and could steal a win or two here, especially if no one’s expecting it.
V17 3 0 0 0 0 3 I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to be headbutted. Even if the blow is lessened by an afro. But Fishy is still the favorite, so he must play very well to win.
Cathadora 3 0 0 0 0 3 I feel bad for Cath because of the unfortunate matchup, but hey, anything is possible.
Red Striker 2 0 0 0 0 2 Red Striker is one of the most creative players I know. It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep pushing on…and catching a few people off guard on the way.
Styrofoameon 1 0 0 0 0 1 Styro is a live tournament veteran, so he’s always a solid pick to go deep, but how will he fare in such a large one? We’re going to find out quickly.
Eiganjo 1 0 0 0 0 1 Gets probably the least intriguing matchup of the week, but remember… the community Dutchman has all your videos. He is watching and learning.
Rukario 1 0 0 0 0 1 Not a surprise Rukario is here at all, from battles on the GBU he appears to know high-level mechanics. He’s the best bet for a big upset this round.
ExtraGrizzly 0 0 0 0 0 0 I’m wondering who this is, but congrats on surprising everyone! If you want to keep doing so, you’re going to have to make a Fish fry.
Darkeness 0 0 0 0 0 0 Got kicked out of Fort Wayne because he didn’t know he had an illegal ability. I pegged him top 8 there beforehand. Look for the “surprise” to keep rolling.
Kswas 0 0 0 0 0 0 “Upsetting” Cybertron was his claim to fame, but it was likely a lot closer than it looks. Now he needs to learn how to play the flute.
HimynameisAD 0 0 0 0 0 0 Adriel beat me round 2, and I definitely was caught off guard. He is a solid player, and actually did very well at regionals, too. Tread lightly, he’s no slouch.
Wer 0 0 0 0 0 0 Wer’s one of those players who is conceptually brilliant. And he uses Mamoswine. How can you argue with that combination? It wins regionals.
