Teams from the VGC ’14 Viriginia Regional Championship

On a random note, anyone else surprised at the lack of bisharp on this list?

  2. SublimeManic says:

When your favorite Pokemon is used to great effect competitively. Vaporeon <3. Thank you Wolfe! Huge amount of talent on this list; congrats to everyone.

  3. Griffinbane says:

Adrian, that’s a lame way to mentally knock yourself out of regionals contention. I went 6-3 and only 3 of mine was mentioned on the list. And out of the three that weren’t mentioned, one of them was an ACCIDENT. You need to keep fixing your team and practice. Constantly bashing yourself like this is only gonna make you do worse.

  4. Werford says:

Shame so few Pokemon are viable this year. Hate to say I told you so but… nah, no I don’t.

I’m still not in love with the format itself, but I’m sure impressed with what Generation 6 has done to the game in terms of teambuilding options and balancing the game, even though I’m sure things will get a little more homogeneous as the season goes on. 43 different Pokemon(44, really, with both Charizard Megas) over 16 teams is pretty much unheard of since we’ve sort of entered an age where the playerbase is pretty good at every event(as opposed to, say, 2011 Regionals). Neat stuff.

Forgive my ignorance of the point you were trying to make, but the first part of your post seems to be completely opposite the second part. I would definitely say there was significant diversity among the top cut players. Ray was the only person in the top 8 not to use a completely unique Pokemon, and not all the spreads that Ray used were necessarily standard. I do agree with you that things will likely become more homogeneous as the season wears on, but for now there seems to be a nice mix of Pokemon being used.

As far as information sharing goes, I think we’ve struck a nice balance between privacy and freedom of information by including the mons used but not the movesets, EV spreads, or items. The mons themselves can be useful as a tool for teambuilding in that having a list of what’s successful can help you construct a team that can be successful itself, but the lack of any other information helps prevent counterteaming or straight up team plagiarism. It’s true that motivated players can obtain that information through other channels, but it’s probably best that we’re not the ones to provide that information.

I would expect at least one.  It’s not that popular in the battle spot either

Not too surprised.  It’s certainly not a bad mon, but Mawile does basically all the same things better aside from countering Intimidate.

  8. BowWave says:

    I love wolfey’s and Dim’s teams!
Even tho Dim might be more surprising from anybody else, everybody is using the same Pokémon in this VGC.

  9. Enigne says:

Thank you Joshua Edwards! I’m reasonably happy about the Machamp.

wow that puts a smile on my face  (specially considering we have nearly identical teams) Would love to chat about them in messages maybe? I’m assuming you mean for the weekend of jan 17-19 regional.
