Pre-Registration for US Nationals is Open
For the first time, there will be an official pre-registration system at the United States National Championships for both the trading card game and video game. If you are 100% confirmed for Nationals, then you can go on over to the official Pokémon website and pre-register up to Monday June 24th by following these steps:
- Log into your Pokémon Trainer Club account
- Navigate to www.pokemon.com/support, or follow the Customer Service link at the bottom of any page at www.pokemon.com
- Click “Ask a Question”
- Select “U.S. Nationals Preregistration” from the drop-down menu
- Select your competition (Video Game Nationals or TCG Nationals) from the Competition Selection drop-down menu
- Provide all of the required data: First name, Last name, Player ID, and Date of birth
- If you are a parent, you can preregister up to 3 of your children by using the “Add a Child” drop-down menu
- Please include “U.S. Nationals Preregistration” in the Summary field
- If you are a parent who’s not playing in the event, you can use the non-child fields to preregister one child, and use the “Add a Child” drop-down menu if you need to preregister additional children. Please just indicate in the Details field that you are not preregistering yourself.
- If you have earned a bye via an approved qualifying event, please indicate the number of rounds and where the bye was earned in the Details field. (Example: I have a one-round bye from Spring Regionals: Salt Lake City.)
Remember, to do this you must have a Player ID and you must bring your Player ID to Nationals. By now hopefully everyone has their ID from Regionals or last year’s Nationals! You will receive a confirmation around June 25th confirming your pre-registration. Please print this confirmation out and bring it with you to the event. During pre-registration at the event, you will be required to check-in to verify you are at the event, lock your battle box, download the tournament rules, and get your game card checked. TCG players will also be required to check-in to verify they are present. This should really speed things up at the event and as an added bonus, anyone who plays in Nationals and uses the pre-registration tool will be entered into a draw for some Pokémon TCG booster packs!
- Check-In Time (VG): 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. outside of Exhibit Hall C on Friday, July 5th
- Check-In Time (TCG): 4:00 P.M.–6:00 P.M. outside of Exhibit Hall I on Thursday, July 4th
Note: It will likely come up with “answers” for your question. Select the option that says “cannot find a solution” and it will display the “Finish>>” button to submit.

So this is like… pre-reg for pre-reg? Pre-regception???
whatever I’ll do it
So apparently you need to add a child in order to make use of this, meaning this helps exactly 5 people.
I’m unable to attend; I should Pre-Register just for the rush. I’m dangerous.
Please don’t. There are going to be close around 2000 players (TCG + VG) at this event. Don’t make headaches for the people involved or we won’t get a system in the future. I’ll update when the child issue has been fixed. I’ll take the post offline for now.
Ninja’ing a future Firestorm post, but you’ll also need to click the button that says you can’t find a solution after you fill out your info. Only then will you actually be able to submit it.
Just as a service to the community, please don’t pre-register and not show up. That’s the kind of thing that takes away the incentive for a Tournament Organizer to accept pre-registration. If you have no intention of participating and sign up for a live event, it’s just rude to your peers and to the organizer because it messes with planning and event orchestration.
This confused me at first lol
Anyways, just finished the preregistration before preregistration before I am actually able to register for a registering of my Battle Box and then be registered a spot in the rounds next day
should put the part about the finish button as the last step, lol, could save some trouble. The article is a lot of help, thank you.
Just preregistered, thanks for this article and I will see you all at nationals!
I found the preregistration at Massachusetts to be pointless as they had us go in the line with everybody else anyway and it only had us skip one step of the process. I’ll still do this in hopes that it is a bit different
what are the chances of getting in the tourney by signing up there… because i dont have an id…
Getting an ID takes about five minutes when you register online. If you don’t have one already, get one. It’s easy.
Thanks. I was told by some people that you needed to get one at an event… ._.
So does this require an invite or a lot of CP to attend July 5, or are there going to be last chance qualifiers. Because I don’t exactly want to sign up if I won’t be able to compete. Thanks in advance…
The tournament is open to anyone, you do not need any CP to participate and there is no LCQ, just the tournament.
