Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Move Tutors for Kalos Pokémon

On November 21st, 2014, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be released. Though we won’t be using the games themselves for competitive play until January 1st of the new year, we will see the effects immediately at Premier Challenges across the world due to the move tutors that they will introduce. Your Kalos-born Pokémon can be transferred to the new game, taught the appropriate moves, then traded back and still stay within the rules and regulations we are using until December 31st. The move tutors making their return are those we’ve already seen in past games. This means that any of the attacks that Pokémon could learn via move tutors in HeartGold & SoulSilver can be used again. I sent an email to my Pokemon League, I will let you know any information.

PS: Hyper Voice Sylveon is very strong and MegaGardevoir too. :o

I love Chesnaught having Drain Punch, Superpower and Thunderpunch. I really want to tinker about with my dream of an Assault Vest Bulletproof one (sounds very…military…), but Talonflame and the apparent rise of Heat Wave and Pixilate Hyper Voice will absolutely floor it. Still, I can dream…

EDIT: Doesnt get Knock Off. I have no idea where I got that from…

I dont like the idea of tutor moves being allowed at PCs in Europe even before the game is released here. Without contacts to Asian or American players, you have no access to those mons and even then you need to find someone who play through the game fast enough…

No different than the short period that Dark Void Smeargle found its way into the game between the launch, shut down, and relaunch of Pokemon Bank.

Personally can’t wait to get access to Heat Wave Zapdos, Hyper Voice Mega Gardevoir/Sylveon, and Bug Bite Scizor again. Also widespread access to Tailwind and Icy Wind again.

  5. 13Yoshi37 says:

if there is anyone who feels like he or she will be able to rush through the game in <1 day and could give my mons tutor moves for a PC on 22nd, that would be appreciated!

(It’s really detroited up that you can use tutor moves 6 days before the game is even released in europe…)

this is by far one of the most questionable moves tpci ever made lol, i mean where is the point in creating a whole new metagame 1 month before the real new vgc15 appears? i was really looking forward for the upcoming pcs in germany but i dont know if i still am with this rule addition lol…

You must have a very short memory.

With organizers already making basic mistakes (7 vs 8…) Im fine with simplifying things for a month to avoid additional problems

  8. Firestorm says:

Not actually a rule change. It’s just not changing the rules. Otherwise I can guarantee you you’d still hit the third or fourth round in a tournament and play against someone with Heat Wave Zapdos or something else from a move tutor.

  9. Scott says:

I think avoiding unnecessary complications for organizers is really what it comes down to.

The circuit can’t just take a month off while we wait to get going with VGC 15. There was a lot of expansion this year, which has led to a lot of new organizers. This is a good thing. However, looking at even my own personal experience with events this year, I’ve seen an awful lot of trouble even as is, which would only be made worse by forcing organizers to make a bunch of manual checks. In my last four tournaments I battled a Gastrodon in round 2 of a Premier Challenge that the judges had apparently told the player was OK once, a Regional that had the incorrect top cut size once, and a Premier Challenge that should have had a top cut but didn’t once.

If the built-in hack check isn’t going to catch something — which it wouldn’t with the tutor moves, since they aren’t illegal — it really isn’t a good idea to try to make TOs have to identify them themselves. Especially in a case like this one where they would literally have to check the Pokemon’s moveset against an external learnset of some kind. Many venues already have issues getting good enough Wi-Fi for hackchecks — are organizers going to be checking Bulbapedia on their phones as though the learnset there is an official rules document or something? Come on.

I wasn’t super excited to see this initially from a player end, either. Having a month-long metagame does seem sort of silly, but honestly having to play VGC 14 in the 2015 season is kind of a necessary evil to begin with because of the game release schedule not synergizing with the tournament season very well. I don’t think playing an extremely stale 2014 metagame is any more appealing than having a month with a fresher-but-more-volatile 2014+ORAS tutor hybrid format. Personally, I think I would enjoy playing in this format a lot more than playing yet another standard VGC 2014 tournament given how little room for development seems to be left in that format, and I’m hoping I get the chance to putz around in it once or twice. Regardless, it’s really the only viable way to have events in December, which is a lot better than not having events.

Legalizing Dark Void proves this wrong

You would be facing move tutors regardless of the rules. You would just be handicapped because you would actually know the rules.

PCs aren’t regionals where a machine could potentially take care of everything.

Especially if its Life Orbed or Choiced Specd.

I have a shiny Gardevoir on my X version, and I wonder if I can transfer it to ORAS so I can teach it Hyper Voice. Shiny Mega Gardevoir is my fave shiny mega, and with Hyper Voice, its so going to be oh so good.

  14. Crunchy says:

No reason you won’t be able to transfer it.

I’m excited to finally be able to use my favorite Mega legitimately!

    Answer of a PC’s organizer

“ORAS can’t be used for VGC until 2015, so you can’t use ORAS for teaching tutor moves”

That means the tourneys won’t be played on the ORAS carts. This was already confirmed though so no more need to speculate.

He wanted to say that you can’t use ORAS in anyway ;)

  18. Scott says:

As you probably noticed with the guy who makes the rules posting before you last time, your PC guy is definitely wrong, though. ;)

  19. PogbasSight says:

Okay, I will link him this thread :)
