Cybertron Crowned Champion of the First Nugget Bridge Circuit Invitational

After a grueling five month season full of ups and downs for all of the competitors, Aaron “Cybertron” Zheng managed to conquer an incredibly stacked field to take home the title of Champion of the inaugural season of the Nugget Bridge Circuit.

Cybertron, no stranger to high stakes matches, had a mixed bag of a season. During the Live Tournament portion of the circuit, Cybertron made it to the finals on six separate occasions, taking home the gold for that week three times. Because of his strong showing during Live Tournaments, he entered the Nugget Bridge Major, the tournament with the highest stakes of the season, as a heavy favorite to make it deep. However, in one of the biggest upsets of the season Cybertron dropped in his first match to relative unknown kswas, leaving Cybertron on the outside looking in as other competitors, like his eventual opponent in the finals Wolfe “Wolfey” Glick, made it deep and gained more Nugget Bridge Circuit points to put Cybertron’s Invitational position in perilous position.

One of the traits of a top-tier battler, however, is to avoid going on tilt when you catch a bad break, and no one can claim that Cybertron isn’t a top-tier battler. After a disappointing Major performance, Cybertron went on to make it to the finals of the GS Cup tournament and score an incredible 200 circuit points from the Round Robin Scramble, finishing the season with 980 circuit points and the third seed in the Nugget Bridge Invitational.

The Nugget Bridge Invitational saw the top sixteen players of the Nugget Bridge Circuit join to compete in one night of high level combat. If there was any doubt as to level of competition for this tournament, Cybertron’s route to the Championship should dispel it all as we saw Cybertron go up against Mrbopper in the first round, Amarillo in the second and three-time Regional Champion Zach “Zach” Droegkamp in the semi-finals before facing off against Wolfey in the finals. Despite this incredible schedule, Cybertron only dropped one match to Zach in the semifinals, going 2-0 in all of his other matches — including the finals! By sheer happenstance, all of Cybertron’s matches were streamed live with commentary from the Nugget Bridge staff. You can relive Cybertron’s victories on our Twitch.tv account.

Congratulations to Cybertron for his impressive victory and stay tuned for information on the second season of the Nugget Bridge Circuit to be announced shortly. Can Cybertron defend his title in the upcoming season? Only time will tell!
