First Details About Pokémon X & Y WiFi Test Tournament
We’ve been waiting for information about this season’s online tournaments for quite some time now as Championship Points from the events were the factor in who did and didn’t make the World Championships in 2013. We might be a bit closer to that information as the Japanese Global Link has just revealed some information about the test tournament they announced mid-2013.
The Pokémon X & Y Test Tournament will take place from the evening of Friday, February 21st to Monday, February 24th. As mentioned last year, anyone who met the minimum number of battles to be included in the standings of the 2013 Global Showdown and weren’t disqualified will be eligible to play. You must have your Pokémon X or Y card registered to the same Global Link account that was used for the 2013 Global Showdown. Additionally, sign-ups will open on January 31st to allow the first 10,000 participants to join in as well.
The Pokémon Company apologizes for the delay in the tournament. The ruleset will be announced at a later time, presumably when the page for sign-ups goes live on January 31st.

What does level 30 mean for stat calculation? Are you gonna have to run different EV spreads than you would for a level 50 Pokemon?
Regional hack check is the same as the online hack check. Pokebank doesn’t allow you to transfer Pokemon with incorrect hatch location anymore.
A lot of the time, yes. IIRC, at levels well below 50 EV spreads often get, well… weird.
EV spreads below level 50 aren’t so nice and easy as IV’s/2 + EV’s/8 has to equal a whole number. For this, you actually have to look at the stat formula itself:

For level 50 calculations, the 50 and 100 simplify down to 1 and 2 leaving a nice, clean, IV’s/2 + EV’s/8. However, if you tried to do that with level 30, you would reduce to 3 and 10, which would leave the formula in a very complicated mess that I don’t want to deal with. The best way to test for efficient EV’s for Pokemon that aren’t at level 50 is to go to Showdown, open up the teambuilder, and set your Pokemon’s level to 30. For example, let’s say you want 252 Speed EV’s on a Genesect, without a +Speed Nature. I notice that Genesect’s Speed stat with 252 EV’s is 92. Then, I continue to subtract EV’s until I achieve the same stat (92) with the lowest EV’s possible. In this case, 244 Spd works the same as 252 Spd.
Just like at level 50, you’re likely not going to be pulling too many extra stat points out of this, but it can be pretty handy to have.
252/252/4lyfe
Good ol’ 252/252/4. Always there for you when you need it the most. <3
And sign ups are open! To sign up, you need to go to pokemon support and follow the instructions to submit your application to join. As leaked, it is in fact VGC rules, pokemon set to level 30, with the 20 battles per day and 60 battles in total cap. Will be good for practice!
The second way to qualify for the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Beta Competition is by applying for an additional participant spot. You’ll need to do several things before requesting an invitation. You’ll first need a Pokémon Trainer Club account, and you’ll need to have accepted the PGL Terms of Use. Also, you must have either a Pokémon X or Pokémon Y game and have registered your Game Sync ID at the External. If you have registered more than one game to the same user name, you may participate using bothPokémon X and Pokémon Y.
To be considered for the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Beta Competition, you must sign in to Pokemon.com and follow these steps exactly. If you do not follow these steps exactly, you may not be added to the invitation request list.
You have until February 7, 2014, at 1 a.m. GMT to request an invitation. If you are extended an invitation to compete, you will be notified of the results via a pop-up notification after logging in to the PGL on or after 2/14/2014 at 7 p.m. GMT.
Online Competition Rules
Notable Changes from Past Wi-Fi Competitions
There is a limit on how many battles you can participate in each day. If you reach this limit, you will become unable to participate in any more battles that same day. If you do not use your full quota of battles for a given day, the unused battles will be rolled over to the following day.
The test competition will last for three days, so it is possible to take part in a maximum of 60 battles. The limit will be set to 20 battles per day. However, if you battled fewer than 20 times in one day, the remainder will carry over to the next day. For example, if you battled 15 times on Day 1, you can battle 25 times on Day 2. If you then didn’t battle at all on Day 2, you could participate in 45 battles on Day 3 (20 from Day 3 plus the 25 you carried over). The battle count for each new day will be reset at midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
There may be other limitations, based on your location and time of day.
The cap system is pretty cool conceptually, but hoping these numbers are just to test to make sure constraints are working rather than what they’re anticipating using for CP events. There was definitely an issue in the past with people willing to grind a couple hundred games having an advantage, but 20/day feels a little low to me with matches only lasting around 10 minutes much of the time… I could finish 20 games in the time it takes for Regionals registration to start until the roster is posted!
The level 30 thing on top of Nationaldex in a Kalosdex season isn’t very appealing though, I probably won’t bother unless I’m bored and want to stream with something silly.
Using the support ticket to get in sure sounds like hell to administrate though, have fun with that TPC/I…
I CAN USE TOGEKISS!!!
Assuming I get in, going through support. Wish me luck peoples.
Is this 6v6 or 6 pokemon pick 4 like VGC and Battle Spot?
What are probably the best strategies here? Namely differences from VGC?
Can this be played like VGC? Are type gems and other Pokebank exclusive items legal?
What about Pokemon like, say, Serperior, that were transferred and then bred?
Sorry for all the questions but the page on Pokemon.com wasn’t very helpful.
Can we use Friend safari pokes such as Excadrill, Togekiss and Volcarona now?
Any Pokemon that’s not Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, or Zygarde can be used
Has anyone noticed the note on the bottom of the official page?
“The organizers bear no responsibility for any accidents or damage that arise during this test competition, regardless of origin or severity.”
It makes it sound like something like the Target credit card scandal could happen during the tourney. Heh!
Before anybody gets confused, if you qualified through the Global Showdown you’ll get this:

Here’s one of the more interesting bits from the article:
Hmm, I wonder… EDIT: That blurb means that this tournament is more than just a test to make sure their systems are properly working. This tournament’s also a test of a potential metagame (Aside from the level) and a promotional tool. EDIT2: Theoretically
I don’t want to sound “hateful” but man, I don’t like this at all. I was hyped for it but now I won’t play.
Also I wish for Kalos Dex forever (imposible though) I don’t want to see Cresselia ever again. T.T
6 Pokemon pick 4
Best strats? Who knows? We haven’t had the opportunity to play National Dex, Kalos Native yet.
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
If you can breed a Pokemon in Kalos then you can make it Kalos Native and therefore eligible. Where the Pokemon you used to breed came from is irrelevant. All that matters is that it’s in Gen VI and able to
have sexmagically produce eggs.Incorrect. While that was what was explicitly listed, unbreedables you can’t catch in Kalos can’t be used. So Cresselia, for example, can’t be used. Maybe if you used one of the hacked ones that sneaked through but then you would get DQ’d for hacking.
Nonetheless I’ll most likely stick to using my VGC team instead of getting Pokemon from national dex and breeding them
Are all those question marks for my question about items? If someone can answer that it would be great
You can’t transfer items at all with Pokebank. The only Gem you could possibly see is the Normal Gem (and even then they got that huge nerf so they only do 1.3x damage now instead of 1.5x).
Does this mean that we might never get a chance to use stuff like cresselia again? unless they make all these mons avaliable in the next games
Assuming they’re keeping this change for good, it wouldn’t surprise me to see some more legendaries in Z/the sequels/whatever, and then the rest of them in the next set of games after that, kind of like what happened in Gen 4.
Is the level 30 cap confirmed? If it is that sucks because now everyone is going to have to re ev train their pokemon without a 252/252 spread.
Well, I’ll be rebreeding my ’13 Sand Team. A last farewell to my favorite team I’ve ever played. Plus, I get to use Mega Ttar! That level 30 cap is gonna be a blissey, though…
It is indeed confirmed. However, as I was saying earlier, even 252/252/4 spreads aren’t safe, like I proved with my Genesect example.
Hey I registered on the first day possible for this on Pokemon.com exactly how it said to, and I haven’t heard back at all yet. This seems like a problem for me, is it?
Yeah, i did the beta invite request too and haven’t even got a confirmation email. I don’t really want to do the form again in case this is how they handle things…
So…does that make Seismic Toss from Mega Kangaskhan auto-win against any non-ghost Pokemon?
From what I understood, you won’t hear back until the 14th.
Go read the announcement again. All the way this time. Your guys’ concerns will be answered *and* you should hopefully start getting good habits like checking an announcement again before worrying too much about something.
This is pretty funny, but unfortunately the lower levels don’t help. You actually do slightly less damage as a percentage at level 30 than at level 50 (or 100).
