Korean National Championships and Invite Structure Revealed

Pokémon’s Korean arm just put up their page on Korea’s National Championship and unlike this year’s US National Championships, you will require an invite to play. The qualification method will involve the Nintendo WiFi Connection like it did for both them and Japan last year. However, instead of holding a special tournament just for residents of the country, Korean players will be competing with the rest of the world in the International Challenges with the top ranking Korean players earning invites to play in their National Championship.

  1. Top 10 from 2013 Pokémon International Challenge January (January 24th-28th, 2013)
  2. Top 14 from 2013 Pokémon International Challenge March (March 21st-25th, 2013)
  3. Top 20 from 2013 Pokémon International Challenge April (April 18th-21st, 2013)

This year, the Korean National Championship will a total of 3 divisions — Juniors, Seniors, and Masters — just like the rest of the world. There is no word of a Last Chance Qualifier for those unable to earn an invite through the WiFi tournaments nor is there any information on how many players from Korea will earn an invite to the 2013 Pokémon World Championships in Vancouver. The Korean National Championships will take place on May 5th, 2013.
