The future is amongst us. I will be looking forward to abusing this new type if it gets any significant usage.

  2. Amarillo says:

weak to poison, nve against fire? Where are you guys getting all these? I thought strong against Dragon was the only one that has been stated so far?

We don’t know Fairy type’s place in the type chart yet do we?

  3. Crow says:

We’re just assuming the leak was true. “Fairy will be a new type. It is weak to Poison and Steel, immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting, and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it”

  4. Die2Distroy says:

Not really anything on what Fairy resists though (yet), even if the leak was true.

  5. pball0010 says:

I yamsing hate this, there should be more anger in this thread than there was in the blisseyfest that was the European feedback thread

I was looking forward to X and Y but NOT AS MUCH ANYMORE because we have to BOW TO THE FURRIES  FAIRIES  FURRIES  I was also looking forward to make jokes to all people who have a fanboy/fangirl living with them to buy flood insurance asap once this stupid rumour was shut down because the flood of tears would be unbearable, but NOPE, feed the furries. Kjfldsjfslgjklkjdsg I’m legitimately upset about this, even more upset than I was about Zoroark existing.

Contrary to the absolutely yamsing horrible naming of this type, I’m super okay with how they balanced this. Giving Psychic and Fire another resist helps quite a bit, Fire especially. I’m scared to see Cresselia ever in a format with Fairy types, but I do approve of the competitive balance of this.

At least we get anothah lobstah, I guess .-.

Man! I almost had a heart attack when I saw the headlines on the official website! I already get teased enough at school for playing pokemon, and now the game gets even more embarrassing to play! Why would you do this to me Nintendo?! :(

DID NO ONE SEE MY RAGE “NO” POST ON THE FIRST PAGE?? WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET MORE HATE SYMPATHY?? WRITE IN RUN ON SENTENCES AND CAPITAL LETTERS AND KICK SOME PUPPIES AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE?????//?

In a side note, I hear sound might still be a rumored possibility. I hope this isn’t the case, because, although I’m a proud musician, it will make me sad because there’s no good type alongside the evil type in the world of pokémon.

On the bright side (or not-so-bright, since theres no LIGHT TYPE), Father Rizzo and I have a mission field in a game that needs the love of Jesus having dark type and no light (EVEN THOUGH THAT’S BEEN THE CASE FOR GENERATIONS–whatever)

I’m gonna go back and cry in my futile corner now…

One thing I don’t understand (assuming the leaks are true) is how they justify Fairy being immune to Dragon? I understand all the other immunities thus far, but this one just strikes me as odd. But I’m actually super psyched for Gardevoir to become my new dragon killer and favorite pokemon all at once<3  But I think this also only strengthens the argument to never google images of her. I’m really excited just to hear about everything else too! Was there something I read about a new Flying/Levitating battle system as well?

It’s done to try balancing the type chart what with dragons firing Gem’d Draco Meteors and only one type resisting that attack

EDIT: unless you meant generalizing fairies being immune to dragons, which I’m confused about too. I always heard dragons are impervious to magic..

Yeah, I meant like its obvious how steel can be immune to poison, and ghost to fighting/normal, and even dark to psychic. You can’t generally see a ghost, or even try to punch one. You can’t use telepathic powers to posses the dark etc. (I know my examples are awful, but you can see where I’m going with it) All of these immunites actually make sense. You can’t hit a bird with an earthquake, you can’t poison a bunch of steel, it just naturally goes together, so that’s why I was confused with this immunity

I’m just gonna go with fairies reviving you in the Zelda games even after you get killed by a dragon. Except for Navi, that is.

That first picture is deff shopped. Fairies are weak to steel, they won’t be able to handle it

  12. Scott says:

I’d actually kind of like Cress getting the subtype, anything that gives it more weaknesses would probably help dealing with it… not like you want to Draco Meteor it most of the time, anyway.

  13. Mr Rock says:

Mods can remove if this is too off-topic, but some interesting stuff about Pokemon-Amie, what we previously speculated to be the new way to EV train (I”m guessing he was at the roundtable): External

“Strong bond will result in more critical hits or better dodging”. I hope that’s inaccurate.

  14. Crow says:

We have confirmation that Fairy type was at least somewhat made to balance the type chart.

“Fairy-type was created partly to combat the imbalance of Dragon-type’s power and some imbalances in the type chart. Just like Dark and Steel back in Generation II.”

  15. SoulSurvivor says:

This might have to be moved, but shofu said during a player battle No team preview in battles, and you can set battles to level 100. It is confirmed we can play with different set of rules(Ubers, Flat, etc), but it caught my eye that team preview wasn’t shown.

Also Cress as a fairy would be meh. Getting mauled by steels would suck considering almost everyone has one.

  16. Crow says:

“Flow of battles – seeing opponent’s team ahead of time – is the same as before. You can select the song for the battle though.”

i’m still so confused by the furry thing??? subdivision fandom has nothing to do with fairy type at all and i have no idea where you got that from. you are literally the only person on the internet i have seen even mention furry and fairy type in the same sentence

they are staying very true to fairy lore with the steel weakness, fairies are pretty dangerous in mythologies and they fall into the same mythical category as dragon types. i would honestly be more upset if light was a type since that would be the most cliche thing to ever happen and it would have to alter dark types in some way. there is literally nothing to be upset about at all and we can’t even say anything about it until all the weaknesses are actually confirmed. we don’t have confirmation on immunities either so we don’t know if fairy will be OP or not. fairy is also a pre-existing egg group.

i am really not sure why people are getting angry about it, we haven’t had a new type in a long time and i think the changes will be interesting. fairy does not mean every pink magical looking pokemon will be fairy. goblins, trolls and gnomes also fall into fairy category (haha gnomes everybody laugh at me) along with other generally supernatural small peaceful creatures. its actually a pretty open type, the flagship pokemon just happens to be sylveon who fits the generally stereotypical fairy description. i haven’t ever really associated fairies with anything inherently girly or pink but then again my favorite fairies are the tooth fairies from hellboy

they also give me impossible quests on neopets ):

  18. cobalte says:

If the rumors are true about Fairy’s role in the type chart, Steel types absolutely have the most to gain from this. No doubts

This is because not a lot of people know how the External(fairies) really are.
The majority are basically the joker with magical powers :l

  21. Werford says:

I’d have to see what else Fairy is good against or weak to, but it seems like a smart balancing move to me. Dragons could use another weakness, and if the rumors are true, Steel could probably use another thing to hit Super Effectively, considering it only hits Rock and Ice for 2x damage currently (and does .5x to Fire, Water, Electric, and Steel, all common types).

I was a little offput by the name, but when I started looking at it as External rather than External it made it a bit more palatable.

  22. CanadianMudkipz says:

I don’t know how to feel about this; “Fairy” types don’t necessarily so like it should be a type just because Pokemon have all ready be referred to being a fairy (Clefairy) and I just don’t like it as much as a “light” type maybe. But seeing how electric types are all ready made; there’s probable no point. Also, every other type is some kind of element, or something of nature, Fairies are normally a made up creature. I’m curious to see how this will play out in Manga, Anime, and of course, game.

  23. Thowra says:

On one hand, I’m glad there’s something to balance the overpowered dragons.

On the other hand, I was really hoping hail as a weather could decrease the power of dragon types by 50%, much like rain and sun reduce fire and water attacks respectively. Ice is one of my favourite types, second to Bug (which has come a long way since its debut in Gen 1 which made them a total joke compared to all the other types). Even competitively ice types are kind of terrible due to their frailty. I was really hoping Gamefreak would give the Ice types a big buff up. Oh well, maybe there’s something they haven’t yet revealed. Fingers still crossed!

  24. mattj says:

Q: Player movement appears to be 8-way. Why not full analog? A: Keeping a grid-style bc of tracking Pokemon encounters. But freer movement.

Q: Considered tweaking EV and IV to make being competitive easier? A: X&Y will make some of these ideas more visible and intuitive.

Now talking about Pokemon-Amie. Allows better bonding with Pokemon. Adorable. (All of this was in the morning Nintendo Direct.)
Strong bond will result in more critical hits or better dodging.

If you interact more than once, the game will ask if you want an Acquaintance to become a Friend. Pretty easy system.

Various options for battles. There is a default set, but you can change things re: special Pokemon and other rules.

I agree with Havak about the Fairy Egg Group theory, but I think I will just edit the list with my own thoughts on who will become part Fairy:

    Cleffa, Clefairy, Clefable (Normal/Fairy)
    Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff (Normal/Fairy)
    Happiny, Chansey, Blissey (Normal/Fairy)
    Togepi (Fairy) Togetic, Togekiss (Fairy/Flying)
    Bellossom (Grass/Fairy)
    Azurill (Normal/Fairy) Marill, Azumarill (Water/Fairy)
    Snubbull, Granbull (Normal/Fairy)
Gardevoir (Psychic/Fairy) (Not changing Ralts’ or Kirlia’s Typing since Kirlia can evolve into Gallade which is Psychic/Fighting)
    Mawile (Steel/Fairy)
    Volbeat, Illumise (Bug/Fairy)
    Finneon, Lumineon (Water/Fairy)
    Munna, Musharna (Psychic/Fairy)
    Audino (Normal/Fairy)
    Cottonee, Whimsicott (Grass/Fairy)
    Petilil, Lilligant (Grass/Fairy)
    Minccino, Cinccino (Normal/Fairy)
    Alomomola (Water/Fairy)

    This is a Fairy!? D:

Honestly the idea of dragons being overpowered in any sense just seems silly to me. I welcome tge idea of a new type, but one that makes steel types even better seems like it will overcentralize the game more than it is currently. Dragon is a really good offensive type because so few things resist it, but I really havent seen too many dragons as of late, yet it seems that every team runs a steel type, which is independent of steel types resisting dragon attacks, since it kills half of the usable ones anyway.

That being said, there are other considerations in determining viability outside of typing, a mechanic change or an addition of moves will help balance the game out moreso than a new typing ever could. The reason why psychic pokemon outside of eggy werent as good in gen 2 as they were in gen 1 was probably more due to the dominance of a stall playstyle more than the introduction of steel and psychic types, though that certainly was a part of it.

I completely agree with you here, and it would also play into effect the BST of the typing as a whole. I’m assuming they will mostly be special offensive, but if they were to have an above average defense it wouldn’t be as bad against other steel types. As far as the Fairies released so far, the defenses are awful. I’m still more interested in newer Ice types though, and still praying for an Ice/Steel

  29. IceKingz says:

I don’t understand how Fairy is implemented primarily as balance yet they give it yet another interaction with Steel.  Steel essentially resists or is weak to nearly every type and it’s sort of frustrating how much interacts with that type.

Also I think I’m one of the few who actually really wants Cress to be part Fairy.  Not so much for competitive reasons but b/c I actually like Cresselia and feel the type would be fitting.

  30. Die2Distroy says:

Even though this gives Ice Types a much needed boost in resistances, you would be 4x Weak to Fighting and Fire. Basically Terrakion, Hitmontop, Scrafty, Volcarona, Heatran, Chandelure and more Pokemon of each of the said Types would be dangerous to Ice/Steel Pokemon, not to mention how common the mentioned Pokemon are aswell.
