Pokémon 2013 Video Game Championships Information for Europe

European players have been waiting for some word on their Video Game Championship circuit for many months now and it seems the time has finally arrived. The tournament structure, locations, and invite system have all be changed from previous years so pay close attention!

Location and Dates

Like in North America, the Video Game National Championships have been combined with the Trading Card Game National Championships. This will make for a one day event in the UK and Germany, but a two day event in Italy. There will be 3 locations in Europe this year. The video game portion of the National Championships is open to all players regardless of nationality.

Tournament Format

Players will play single game swiss rounds giving all players a chance to play more than one battle. After several swiss rounds are completed, the top 16 players will be paired up in a single elimination best of 3 bracket to determine the National Champion.

Tournament players must bring their own copy of Pokémon Black Version 2 or Pokémon White Version 2 and a Nintendo (3)DS of some type.

  • A Travel Award for the winner (and parent or legal guardian for players under 18) to the 2013 World Championships*
  • A Nintendo Wii U 32GB Deluxe Set

  • 400 Championship Points

2nd Place

  • A Pokémon VG National Championships Second-Place Trophy
  • A Travel Award for the winner (and parent or legal guardian for players under 18) to the 2013 World Championships*
  • A Nintendo 3DS XL
  • 300 Championship Points

3rd & 4th Place

  • A Pokémon VG National Championships Semi-Finalist Trophy
  • A Travel Award for the winner (and parent or legal guardian for players under 18) to the 2013 World Championships*
  • A Nintendo 3DS XL
  • 250 Championship Points (if division attendance is 8 or greater)

5th through 8th Place

  • A Travel Award for the winner (and parent or legal guardian for players under 18) to the 2013 World Championships (Junior division only)*
  • A Nintendo 3DS XL
  • 110 Championship Points (if division attendance is 32 or greater)

9th through 12th Place

  • 80 Championship Points (if division attendance is 64 or greater)

13th through 16th Place

  • 60 Championship Points (if division attendance is 64 or greater)

17th through 32nd Place

  • 40 Championship Points (if division attendance is 128 or greater)

33rd through 64th Place

  • 30 Championship Points (if division attendance is 256 or greater)

65th through 128th Place

  • 10 Championship Points (if division attendance is 512 or greater)

After adding up all the Championship Points (CP) from live events and the WiFi-based International Challenges, the Top 16 players in Masters and Seniors divisions as well as the Top 32 players in the Juniors division will receive an invitation to play in the 2013 Pokémon World Championships in Vancouver.

Divisions are as follows:

  • Junior Division: Born in 2002 or later
  • Senior Division: Born in 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2001
  • Masters Division: Born in 1997 or earlier

* Travel awards do not stack. If you won a travel award at a previous National Championship event, the travel award will pass down to the next eligible player.

Byes

The Top 16 players in CP at the time of the competition will receive a Round 1 bye. For the Italy competition, this w ill be strictly based on your WiFi tournament placings. For the Germany and UK National Championships, it will be based more on your live event placings as they do give you far more CP.
