Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Announced for November 2014 Release

Today, we received some surprising news about new games in the Pokémon franchise for release later this year in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They are widely believed to be remakes of the third generation games which nobody expected at all. We have no information on the titles outside the release date which is planned for November 2014 as a worldwide release, much like Pokémon X and Y. Also like Pokémon X and Y, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International seem to have dropped the word “Version” from the titles of the games.

Nintendo says that, “Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favorite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.”

With a November 2014 release, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will not make it in time for the first Regional Championships of the VGC ’15 season in October. Like the VGC ’13 and VGC ’14 seasons, we expect to play using Pokémon X and Y at the fall regionals before switching to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire after mid-December. Keep in mind that the VGC ’15 season will be the first year we will hopefully have events on a regular basis if the current Premier Challenge pilot program pans out. It remains to be seen how long that Play! Pokémon decides is sufficient before sanctioned events switch to the new games.

I’m hoping for a national dex rule in next years VGC, a little more variety will make some battles more exciting.

And also the potential for MegaSceptile? Very exciting times :) It’s less than two weeks til E3, so heres hoping for gameplay mega reveals for then!

  2. P3DS says:

Just saw on serebii there was a recent trade mark for Pokemon delta emerald. What do you guys think?

Serebii also said that something similar happened with “Pokémon Water Blue” and “Pokémon Grey”, it doesn’t have to mean anything, but who knows?

  4. I want acro bike so I can pop wheelies.

We had national dex before remember? It doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s going to be more variety, hence lando+cress+thund+tran+ttar cores for days. Not sure what season you’ve been playing, but there’s definitely been a lot of innovation this season bar the Kang and friends teams. And even though the pool is more centralized, players are getting better at finding ways to make standard mons run unique sets, rather than shamelessly netdecking teams/sets without actually knowing how they function. So if any of the great top matches weren’t exciting for you this season, then I’m sorry, but you’re probably just a boring person. But I digress.

Can this game come out already? I want a VGC ladder that I can play in-game and new swag clothes. *fingers crossed*

With 700+ Pokemon available and legal, there are few Pokemon that can perform well enough against a majority to use successfully. This often ends in less variety and more of the top 6 Pokemon being used commonly.

Sorry guys, I’m quite new to the VGC scene, I haven’t got a huge amount of knowledge on how things have worked in the past but I’m trying to learn more, hence why I signed up here. I guess I really dont know much…I’ve just seen plenty and plenty of MegaKang and Talonflame when I’ve played recently. Apologies :)

  8. shinryu says:

Calling Drizzle Mega Swampert right now.

But if I get no other Mega Evolution than Ludicolo I’ll be okay with that.

    Unless it’s Mega Slaking. omg.

So Mega Slaking would lose Truant, and gain…Slow Start I bet XD

Past or not, the amount of usable mons doesn’t always guarentee variety. Yes the national dex offers more options in terms of what’s available to use, but any pool, regardless of size, will eventually centralize around a group of viable mons. You’re going to see plenty of Kang/Talonflame, that doesn’t mean that the metagame is stale or boring (although I can’t say this wholeheartedly). I guaretee some of the top players are going to use Kang/Talon because they’re proven to be effective mons in this meta. However, this doesn’t guarentee them success, it’s up to the players to decide how to tweak spreads and move sets to set them apart from the average trainer.

Thats fair enough, I never thought it of it like that, but that makes perfect sense. I never meant that the metagame was boring, I just made an assumption without realising how the usuable Pokemon would centralise like that. :)

On another note: I’d like to see move tutors back in this game. And maybe the potential of Drain Punch on Chesnaught through one of said tutors?

    Lol mega ludicolo (•0•)/

  16. Mudkip421 says:

    When is E3?

Next week, you could’ve just googled that.

  17. FlashSentry says:

This is going to be so awesome!!

  18. Twinhead says:

In spirit of mega slaking. I’ve created a mono normal team with him (normal slaking) anyway what do you guys want to see when e3 or corocoro reveals?

  19. E3 won’t have any news on the games, CoroCoro might have one screen

  20. Notal says:

E3 won’t have any news on the games, CoroCoro might have one screen

    Of water.

  21. Mudkip421 says:

Even if E3 won’t bring us any news, they would still probably wait until after to bring news. With all the news that IS released at E3, it’s easy for news on smaller games to be swallowed up (although Pokemon is big, it’s probably not going to beat out Call of Duty and such).

  22. Crunchy says:

IIRC, GF hasn’t ever used E3 to reveal too much information on upcoming games anyway. That much has been left up to Corocoro.

Who knows, maybe we will find out more about kyogre’s and groudon’s new forms/megas

  26. Crunchy says:

    Then I (happily) stand corrected.

  27. Twinhead says:

Hey new information June 15 on get tv yeah I’m not watching a naked Japanese dude again… I’ll wait for corocoro thank u

  28. Crunchy says:

    Corocoro scans: External

Grass/dragon Mega Sceptile, Mega Swampert, Atom Kyogre and Atom Groudon, stuff about Diance.

Still no word on Mega Slaking or Mega Ludicolo.

    edit: from serebii

This reveals Mega Sceptile, Swampert and Dianice. Mega Sceptile is Grass/Dragon-type while the others maintain their type. Mega Diancie’s ability is currently listed as ???. Groudon & Kyogre’s new Mega Evolutions are known as Atom Groudon & Atom Kyogre. Steven Stone returns and also appears to have a Mega Charizard X

  29. Szarkai says:

    MegaSwamper hype train TOOT TOOT

But why is Bulbapedia posting abilities? I honestly see nowhere it would say it, but I also can’t read Japanese.

LightningRod and SwiftSwim are kind of a letdown. Though SwiftSwim on something whos normal form is pretty bulky could be interesting.
Still somewhat hoping it is something else.

  30. bombe32 says:

    Swampert on steroids!!! B)

Also, prepare your Talonflames for Mega Blaziken and Mega Sceptile.
