Pokémon Showdown Adds Standard Ladder for the VGC ’14 Season
With the Pokémon Global Link down for maintenance every Monday and there not actually being an in-game ladder using the Standard ruleset at this time, Pokémon Showdown is a useful alternative to start testing your teams against other human opponents. Pokémon Showdown is a browser-based simulator that affords rapid prototyping of teams. Of course, with the new generation there are still many bugs and information missing but the team is working very hard to get it running as smoothly and up-to-date as possible.
When playing select the “VGC 2014 (beta)” option to be placed against other players who are also looking to practice for the Video Game Championships. Please keep in mind that Pokémon Showdown is standalone product that is not affiliated with Nugget Bridge nor is it associated with The Pokémon Company International, Game Freak, Creatures, or Nintendo. We are unable to actively moderate the real-time chat function of this program.
For easy reference, the ruleset is:
- All matches are played in Doubles format
- Pokémon above Level 50 will be brought down to 50 for the match while those below 50 will stay as-is
- Players choose 4 of their 6 registered Pokemon after team preview
- Pokémon must meet all three of the following conditions to be eligible for use:
- Pokémon must be found in the Coastal Kalos, Central Kalos, or Mountain Kalos Pokédex (Full list can be found here)
- Pokémon must have been obtained in Pokémon X or Y (identifiable by a blue pentagon on the stats screen)
- Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are banned
- Species Clause: No two Pokémon can share the same Pokédex number.
- Item Clause: No two Pokémon can hold the same held item.

A bit late but its good to have this up there for the people who were waiting for showdown to be updated to VGC14
Good good good good goodra
So can I use heat wave Chandllure since you could breed it with a pokebanked mon still making it native?
@Abman261 yes you can
Yes, as long as Chandelure keeps it as an egg move. Showdown is running under the assumption that egg moves haven’t changed. We won’t know for sure until the end of December.
Pretty cool. It seems like Dark Void isn’t allowed when it should be, though.
I can’t seem to find info on which ports that need to be opened for it to work in the browser/program. Can anyone help?
You shouldn’t need to do any port forwarding or anything like that to use Showdown.
Dark Void shouldn’t be legal yet, because you can’t sent Darkrai to your game yet. When Pokebank is out, Dark Void will be available for Smeargle.
This is VGC 14 though, and Dark Void is legal there. Should be added really.
