Results from the Pokémon 2013 United Kingdom National Championships

The final European National Championship of the 2013 season is sure to go down in history. With 364 Masters, it was possibly the largest video game National since the beginning of the Video Game Championships. 104 Seniors also rounded out the event ensuring both groups got a Top 16 cut. As the final live event of the European circuit, a lot was on the line and some of the game’s best were present to earn some Championship Points. Once the dust settles, we’ll have a full Championship Point update so players can see how much June’s International Challenge will play a part in their invite.

Additionally, some information was released during the competition that may change the game for those chasing that 2013 Pokémon World Championships invitation. We’re still waiting to see something published on the web, but some or all of the following may be done:

  • Top 8 Masters at the UK National Championships will receive a travel award to Worlds
  • Top 32 Masters in Europe ranked by Championship Points will receive an invitation to Worlds

We’ll need to wait for an official statement from The Pokémon Company International on this news. What doesn’t change is who the Top 16 were from this tournament:

Completely agree with Flash there, the website they had from ’09-’11 was really nice to have, I think it definitely raised attendance numbers (200+ for Juniors, we even got 768 Masters in NJ Regionals in 2010). The videos I’ve seen covering UK and Germany Nationals are really nice, but hard to find for casual players. If I were TCPi I’d bring back the old pokemonvgc.com.

  2. Billa says:

Btw for Juniors UK > Italy > Germany.

I watched all 3 finals and UK-juniors played on a solid seniors level!

    Juniors: https://www.pokemon.com/uk/account/play-pokemon-tournaments/standings/176010/junior

    Seniors: https://www.pokemon.com/uk/account/play-pokemon-tournaments/standings/152276/senior

    Masters: https://www.pokemon.com/uk/account/play-pokemon-tournaments/standings/176009/master

You need to be logged in and the standings do not display unless you were playing in the age division.

Championship Points have yet to be added into the rankings by the pokemon.com site. (I don’t know why the pokemon site has not added the points. It should have updated overnight.) Your actual CP count can be checked here https://www.pokemon.com/uk/account/my-points?cycle=10&product=vg

There may be a couple of name errors in the seniors where parents have added the player ID to their own account rather than their childs. [This will not affect the invite but would be nice to have fixed]

If you don’t know your Player ID then as long as you can provide date of birth and name I can tell you the ID used on the day via PM or email.

Something’s up with those final Masters standings.  It’d be understandable if there some confusion among the placement of 9th-16th place, but Nugget Bridge lists Ben Goud as having 13th while the standings list him as being in 8th place… which he couldn’t have if he lost his top 16 match.  So who’s right?  Who did he beat (or lose to)?

These are the final top 16 on the site if you can’t be bothered to log in:

    1 Ben Kyriakou
    2 Abel Sanz
    3 Lee Provost
    4 Albert Bañeres
    5 Rachel Annand
    6 Daniel Nolan
    7 Matthias S
    8 Benjamin G
    9 Not Opted Into Rankings
    10 Solomon R
    11 Mike Suleski
    12 Koryo
    13 Barry Anderson
    14 TheLolnub
    15 Die2Distroy1
    16 Blaze_Pyro

  5. NoPoke says:

Ben Gould was given a travel invite on the day so I hope NB is wrong!

  6. NidoRich says:

I’m pretty sure there were 5 UK players in top8. I think Ben G was the random player, at least I think he’s British haha

  7. Scott says:

    firestorm sucks confirmed

  8. Baz Anderson says:

Yes, I remember Ben Gould did make top 8.

  9. Josh says:

Ben Gould played and beat Kotx in top 16 to get top 8. My now accurate post on the first page should clear up any confusion. He is British by the way

  10. Firestorm says:

Fixed. I worked off the Challonge bracket because I wasn’t home for top cut. It had one of the matchups wrong. How did nobody let me know in the last week :(

  11. Ben91293 says:

Although it seems to have been cleared up, I was 13th after swiss had finished then played on to make top 8. And yes, it is Gould, with an L :P
