VGC ’12 Worlds to Restrict Black 2 & White 2 Additions

There has been much confusion over whether or not additions from the recently released Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 will be allowed at the 2012 Pokémon World Championships taking place from August 10th to 12th. We reached out to The Pokemon Company International (TPCi) just before US Nationals and were given these responses from the two men who are in charge of running the events this season.

  • As all VGC events are operated directly out of the TPCi US offices, only Pokemon, moves and items from the Black Version and White Version games will be allowed at Nationals and Worlds in 2012.
“The above statement is as true now as it was when it was provided to the customer who asked.”
  • “New Pokémon games (and thier new content) that have not been released in the U.S. will not be allowed in U.S. run events. This includes all TPCi run/sponsored events.”

These are the most official statements we’ll get short of a clarification in the official rulebook hosted on pokemon.com. The World Championships are run by TPCi (unlike the Japanese and Korean tournaments) so they will apply there as stated. This means no new moves, abilities, items or Pokémon.

We have also received word from our friends in Japan that they are all preparing for a format that does not include the additions from Black 2 and White 2 so there should be no fear of playing against players with access to additional tools. Good luck with your teambuilding and we’ll see you at Worlds!
