VGC ’13 Championship Points Update: UK Nationals

The final major Championship Event in Europe is over and a picture of who will have their invites to the 2013 Pokémon World Championships is just about crystal clear. Players aren’t in the clear though as the 2013 International Challenge — June can still decide a few places near the bottom of the invite brackets. All players who can still potentially earn an invite are listed.

Please note there are still some players who have not opted into the Play! Pokémon rankings or aren’t associated with the right Player ID which is causing some issues with placements. You can find the full rankings here.

13sanchan37 is NOT 13Yoshi37 but a friend of mine who went to Birmingham and Bochum (Rebecca W.).
She was at Worlds 2011 too where she ended up placing 12th, some of you guys might know her but I don’t think she’s got an account here.

  2. Firestorm says:

Ugh Yoshi is the worst. First that guy on WiFi that everybody thinks is him and now this…

  3. BraindeadPrimeape says:

Does anyone know how the rating is calculated?

  4. Zog says:

Agh, Firestorm, would you mind making a note about my placing being hidden? (nobody knows why, it’s an ongoing thing) I should be tied with Bellanko at 122CP but the rankings system’s glitched for whatever reason and hasn’t included me from the start.

Interesting… I’m the only one from the Top 16ers in Seniors that got CP. My friend Troy should have the same as me :/

  6. I don’t know what you guys think but getting top 16 in a single event and playing in wifi tournaments deserves an invite to worlds. Hey if you managed to top 32 multiple events in the same season, you must be one of the best.

Going 5-2 in the previous worlds is nowhere near as difficult as one of these feats listed above and shouldn’t be given an invite

  7. woopahking says:

…? Do I even need to ask.

Sheesh… Got nothing better to do with your time than to still rant about this? (Sorry for the being direct but this is starting to get on my nerves…)

I know that the Top 32 getting a Worlds invite in Europe is far too much, I know there are other countires that would deserve those invites more than we do and I know that these worlds spots don´t necessarily only get players that can also play well on international level to Worlds. I´m not exactly happy about this change either and I´m from Europe, you know?^^ (Part of that is probably because I decided not to go to Birmingham  three days before the event bu that´s another story)
But unlike you, I learned to accept that it can´t be changed. Could be that TPCi has fun trolling us with decisions like that but at the end of the day, what can we do against it? These players have an invite and nothing will ever change the fact that this year, the Top 32 in Europe will get an invite to Worlds. The most we could do was stating our opinions – prroductive or not – about it in the Birmingham thread which we did, meaning that TPCi knows what we think of all this now. Further ranting will help nobody and will only worsen the mood, so could you please stop it?^^
If it´s so horrible for you that seemingly “undeserving” players got an invite then it´s your job to prove it by beating them (or, better said, get a Worlds invite yourself and beat them).^^ But be careful, though: Many of those “undeserving” players are not as horrible as you would like them to be and only didn´t have their chance to shine yet.

That being said, I´m happy that many of my friends now have an invite (even though it was because of this random change)  and can all play, too. Congratulations, guys.^^ I know you guys can do well. Make Europe proud!

  9. Flash says:

Again -.- 32 invites for europe is about the same as 16 invites for the us because only a couple of players will use them (we had 32 invites as well in 2011 and iirc only 3 people could afford to travel overseas).

You can be pissed but get over it. I was pissed too when they announced that spain was out of the circuit this year because until the last day I didnt know if I could afford to go to one of the 3 european Nationals. Finally I was able to travel and win a travel award (not only invite). Imagine how I felt about that decision after placing 3rd at worlds and not knowing if I could even have a chance to compete this season but I assumed it quickly and I haven’t been crying for weeks around the forums for it.

Back on topic, CP are updated but ratings not. It doesn’t matter but I say it because someone asked how they calculate them. It’s the same as in the wifi tournaments. You start with 1600 ELO and every round you gain or lose some points that depends of your amount of points and the oponent’s points in the exact moment when you fought against him/her

  10. Billa says:

Who is missing in the ranking right now?

  11. I make a post commentating about the amount of CP required for a European to attend worlds and get replies attacking me for “whining.” Apparently, I missed a rule that you are only allowed to express your opinion about things if you are a European who can’t afford to attend Pokemon tournaments.

TPCi can easily remedy the situation by reaching into there bag of infinite invites and giving some to other countries. They could actually explain the situation to the community.

  12. NoPoke says:

TPCi give out something ( extra EU invites) that are both free to them and unlikely to be used.  Result: the extra invites will have minimal impact upon worlds. If TPCi do the same thing in North America will it have the same minimal impact?

focusing upon the number of championship points to attend worlds is focusing upon the wrong issue in my opinion so I’m not at all surprised that your negative posts draw attacks from Europe.

  13. kingofmars says:

Can we please just not have this thread again?

  14. So lets give Europe 64 invites because it will have no impact. Maybe we should just let every European who shows up in Vancouver to play.

If you actually bothered to read my post, I was complaining about invites not given to world’s top 8 of last year not getting unpaid invites.

  15. Pendlz says:

Oh my god no one cares.

  16. Firestorm says:

This is the wrong thread for that. Blissey in the other thread about how you feel slighted.

This page is updated and reflects the new information announced at UK Nationals:
    External

Specific update: Top 32 in Europe in each age division based on Championship Points will receive Worlds Invitations.

I would like to note, I will be compiling and putting out the official list of Invitations roughly 1 week after US Nationals completes (US Nationals being the last Championship Point event of the 2012-2013 season). This means if you, or you know someone, who has not yet opted into the Play! Pokémon program, a requirement to receive Championship Points, that they must do so before that time. This still effects a few players in both the US and Internationally. Additionally, any account issues or disputes must be reported before that time using the customer service portal. I’m aware of, currently, Zog as the only player who has opted in and should be showing up on the list but is not due to a glitch.

Firestorm, I was within the top 16 in Birmingham but the thing is, I didn’t bring my player ID with me and I’m unsure if they even gave me a new one (to keep) so i’m kinda outstanding.
For my name it’s Solomon Richard-Croffie.

  19. NoPoke says:

Solomon, and anyone else who doesn’t appear in the Birmingham tournament (but did play!), PM me your player ID and date of birth and I can get the player IDs updated.

edit: Sol64 , though this isn’t always the case your name is sufficiently distinctive that it was easy to track down and update.

@everyone: The PlayerID that is being used in the tournament is printed on each and every match slip. Its a good idea to check it ;)
