Contest: Win a Copy of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have finally been released worldwide and our friends at Nintendo of Canada have been kind enough to provide us with a digital copy of each game again. As we have for the past two years, we’re going to celebrate the release of the new game with a giveaway! Like our previous contests, we’ll have three ways of entering: Twitter, Facebook, and our ever insightful forums. Much like the European Smash Bros. 3DS and Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Demo contests we held during the fall, these codes are region locked. In this case, they are for North America so you must own a 3DS from North America to win.

Forum Entry

Simply respond to the comment thread for this article with a quick post about your introduction to the Pokémon Championship Series. Did someone tell you about it? Did you find out about it on Google? How was your first event? Let us know how you got involved with the scene!

Our comments section and forums are linked so you only need to reply once on either location and it will automatically sync. Only your first post will count though you’re free to reply to other players to discuss your experiences! One entry will be randomly chosen from the thread and that player will win their choice of Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire.

Social Media Entry

The other copy of Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire will be given away on Facebook and Twitter in a random draw. Enter both to increase your chance of winning!

Twitter

Simply follow @nuggetbridge and retweet the following tweet to be entered into the draw.

Facebook

Like Nugget Bridge and post an image in the comments for the contest post with your favourite Pokémon item you own — whether that’s a game, a plush, a card, or whatever else! If you’ve got a story to go with it, be sure to include that too!

Contest End

The contest will end at 11:59 PM on Sunday, December 7th, 2014 in Pacific Standard Time. One winner will be chosen randomly from all entries received in the comments thread for this article. Another winner will be chosen randomly from all entries received on either Facebook or Twitter. The winners will be contacted on Monday, December 8th, 2014.

Well, my friend asked me to go to a regional in Fort Wayne with him, so I did.
I don’t remember the event too well but apparently I played Scott and he said I beat him so that was cool. Maybe I’ll be that good again some day?

  2. Kirisoul says:

I had read about them on Smogon Forums way back (probably around 2009/2010) but never had the courage to actually go out to one. I went to my first one in 2013 at Massachusetts with a liechi berry sturdy shell smash carracosta, and I actually ended up going 6-2. It was a great experience, and I’m looking forward to going to more in the future!

  3. An employee at Nintendo world told me about the New York qualifier back in 2008(this is where they had you take a quiz and pretty much 128 random players or something were chosen to play) one of my friends was chosen to play so I ended up going with him and some other friends to watch. When we got there there ended up being another lotto to fit more players into the tournament. I was actually the last person chosen to compete, but since I hadn’t planned on playing in the event I didn’t have my game or DS on me and my friends ended up finding me a spare cart + DS and gave me random pokemon to play with lol. I played one of my friends round 1 and conceded to him knowing my team wasn’t good. Since it was single elimination my run ended there. Been playing VGC ever since. :D

Aww I’m in the UK so u can’t enter I’ve got a steel book copy of Alpha Sapphire so who am I to complain 😛

  5. R Inanimate says:

2009, after a few years of Canadians being barred from competition.
Made it past Lottery, and got Top 8 at Seattle, losing on a Speed Tie…
except you needed Top 4 to be invited to Nats in 2009.

  6. SaiScott says:

I watched the Pokémon World Championships back in 2013 and it looked so fun that I was hooked! Been interested in going to some events, but I currently don’t have a ride. BUT that will change early next year once I learn to drive and get my car insured! 😀

  7. josetron says:

I saw it in video game magazine when I first arrive to USA =)!

  8. Cypher says:

I blame Mosquito for introducing me to Doubles and VGC in 2009, which I was pretty neat. Then I went to my first event in 2011. Then Mosquito made it possible for me to go Nats 2013 & 2014, and Worlds 2014. And this helped me become Worst Mod NA.

    tl;dr ♥Mosquito

  9. Artemis Flynn says:

I read about it in the Heartgold Soul silver national dex guide book Wichita had a page advertising the 2010 world championship. I was never able to start playing until X and Y, but now I go to my first tournament in January. I can’t wait!

  10. Saku says:

While it was not a formal event my first experience with the format was a local tourney. I was bored of singles and normal doubles were not  really picking up my attention and when I realized there actually was an organized official metagame I fell in love inmediately. I practiced like mad and somehow managed to win that tourney using a variation of Wolfey’s 2012 worlds team. My Y game was the prize for that tourney and I hold to it dearly because it is pretty much a reminder of how I started to play and stuff.

  11. RAV44 says:

I started with the first Online Challenge on BW, I used to play on singles format but as I entered that Tournament I just loved all the synergy and infinite possibilities that the Double Format allowed, so I started to look deep into it, I found NuggetBridge and found out about the Pokemon Championship Series, since then I’ve being faithful to the format. I’ve also started a community on my country so other people understand and feel the same way I did. Currently I’m an Organizer of Premier Challenges on my Country.

I had heard about the VGC happenin in Berlin in 2009, but was too young to go so I didn’t even consider it. However, when I saw Massi, drug_duck and Fatum, three people I knew from online, qualify, I knew that I wanted to have a shot at trying to do the same next year… and failed to do so in the next two years. However, 2012 was when I got finally lucky enough to do so and that made me stick to the game up to now ^_^

  13. Bopper says:

I had already played singles and posted a few videos to youtube. I saw on pokemon.com and heard about VGC through a few people on youtube and it looked cool/interesting. I told benji about it, studied the metagame to the best I could, got my butt kicked, tried again the next year, and I was hooked. VGC has been great, glad I got started!

  14. Canodiaz says:

In 2011 I heard about a local tournament where the rules were VGC, so I googled about it and found all this, finished pretty well with a 2nd place in my first tournament

  15. Pilpulp says:

My first event was a regionals in Philidelphia… Which was quite the trip because I’m Canadian. I found out about it on the Pokemon.com website and begged my parents to take me. I never thought they’d said yes, but they did! When I got there, there was a big line to register as it was random draw then. At some point, the line had to shift over or something, so I went from being pretty far back in the line, to 13th. For the draw to see who got to play, my number was 13 and corresponding pokemon was Weedle. Oh great. However, I was picked and got to play. The first round I beat my opponent only because, like me, he was unaware of most of the technicalities of pokemon, and had pokemon under level 50. I ended up winning. Next round, I lost because I went up against someone who actually had a competitive team. :>

I saw the pictures of World’s 2013 in a Pokemon Facebook group. Ever since I saw that picture’s, I researched everything about it and found out that our country does not have Premiere Challenge’s(which makes me sad) but I found a community in our country that is VGC centered. I’m very active when it come’s to tournmanet whether it’s online or not. My best accomplishment so far is reaching Asia Cup Finals, one of the 2 that will represent our country. Ever since I start playing VGC format I always look for sites that can help improve my knowledge to the game which lead me to Nuggetbridge. In Nuggetbridge I met Jacklyn(Charizadygurl). I’m helping his son(Phillip Barragan) to achieve his dreams. Teaching the kid the basics of the game(IV’s, EV’s…etc.), also help him building team, providing Pokemons for his tournaments. If the kid won a tournament(recently he won a Regionals), I’m very happy and proud and feel very accomplished.

In like 2007 or 2008 i tried to play in one of the JAA events but didn’t get through the lottery :( and in 2011 I went to VGC in Newark and met varl and TTS!!!

and im still trash at this game

  18. emforbes says:

I saw Nickscor’s 2012 report on here and I thought it was cool so I decided to join nuggetbridge. My first tournament I got 4th so I guess it was good!

  19. I read about the international challenge on serebii, and eventually found nuggetbridge and Adib’s report was the first I read. I soon joined the forums and started attending events. My first large event was this years Fort Wayne regionals. It also helped that x and y were the first games I could get connected to the Internet on… Another thing that really helped was the Nationals stream.

  20. Brandon says:

I got into VGC after visiting the mall during JAA. I couldn’t believe there was actually competitions for the game, and the following year (in 2008 I believe) I took the online quiz to participate in New York. I didn’t start participating until 2010, after not making the random draw in 2009. So I have been playing for 4 years and have only had one successful year, and two mediocre years at Nats.

  21. chowjed says:

I got introduced to the Pokemon Championship Series last year while watching DOTA 2 The International 3 on twitch. I noticed the official Pokemon channel with a lot of viewers and checked it out. I never thought that Pokemon could be played competitively until last year. Unfortunately, I live in a country where TCG is the only official tournament so I’ve never attended any official VGC tournaments but I hope in the near future I’ll get to have the chance to attend one.

  22. Dragonknight says:

Played competitively at Smogon in DP and then the first VGC got announced and it was a big deal

  24. SoulSurvivor says:

I was a bored 8th grader who decided to check Pokemon.com. I found out about Newark 2010 regionals happening in 2 weeks. After annoying my mom for a week I got the ok and would eventually finish in the top 32 losing to Aaron Zheng. Since then I’ve attended an event every year.

  25. MangoSol says:

I heard about VGC when my friend from high school told me there was a pretty big tournament only a few hours away. I was the best in my school, so I wanted to prove to them that I can totally take on anyone, because they thought I would get crushed by “the pros.” I ended up practicing on skarmbliss for like 3 months to get used to the doubles format (and prove them wrong) and then ended up taking 4th at my first regionals ever!

  26. LudiImpact says:

In 2008 and 2009, I heard about VGC on the website, but decided to not try it due to the lottery. Then in 2010, a regional was announced in Newark without a lottery on pokemonvgc.com so I decided to try it out. pokemonvgc.com just redirects you to the Play! Pokemon page now, too bad it was taken down. It had the videos for the finals of Juniors, Seniors, and Masters with their teams for every event.

  27. Safro Amurai says:

I found out through nugget bridge actually. After barely scraping together a team, I went to the German National in Bochum this year and it turned out ok, I went 4/4.

I don’t have ORAS yet, but I’m super hyped to play it at some point.

  28. MrFox says:

Oh man.  I heard about the Newark regional in 2010 from some casual friends.  Dad was willing to take me and try it out, so I went with my team of Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Feraligatr and something else, losing round 2 to some kid who only used Thunderbolt the entire match :P.  I had a ton of fun though, and my dad and I were both really impressed with the size and scale of the event, but I didn’t think about taking the game much more seriously until I read Ray Rizzo’s interview with Nintendo Power (R.I.P.).  That’s what really inspired me to play competitively, so here I am!

  29. Oryx says:

I saw that there was a Pokemon Video Game Championship Series on Pokemon.com for the first time in Canada back in 2012!

I entered with my little brother and it was both an exciting yet anxious experience. I didn’t do too hot but he ended up winning regionals and nats, placing 6th at Worlds! Looking back to my set strategy of using a sandstorm steam with imperfect IVs (shoutout to my Gentle Paraflinch Togekiss), I’m definitely happy to say I’ve improved a ton as a player in the past 3 years.

  30. Nice Guy Topher says:

I had played pokemon since red & blue, but only with my cousins. I only stumbled upon competitive pokemon through pokemon showdown last year and became addicted to competitive play ever since!
