2013 Spring Friendly
If you’re tired after the competitive nature of the 2013 Spring Regionals and International Challenge in April, you’ll be glad to hear that the next event will feature a significantly more relaxed experience! With no Championship Points up for grabs, the 2013 Spring Friendly is a singles tournament featuring only Unova Pokémon and no banlist aside from that. That’s right, from the looks of things, you can use that Meloetta you picked up recently! Remember that unlike the Doubles format we play a majority of the time, the Singles format only allows 3 of your 6 Pokémon to be used!
Registration goes from May 9th to May 16th with the actual tournament taking place from May 17th to 20th.
Registration Period
00:00 UTC, Thursday, May 9, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Competition Dates
00:00 UTC, Friday, May 17, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Monday, May 20, 2013.
Ruleset
- Battle Format: Single Battle
- Pokémon will be levelled down to Level 30
- Players may use only Pokémon found in the Unova Pokédex of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.
- Pokémon may not hold the item Soul Dew.
- Pokémon may not use the move Sky Drop or Dark Void during battle.
Prizes
- All players who end up on the final rankings (are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played) will receive Black Kyurem & White Kyurem C-Gear skins.
Age Divisions
- Junior & Senior Division: Born in 1998 or later
- Master Division: Born in 1997 or earlier
Requirements
You must be using a Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 game card to participate in these tournaments.
Disconnections
You must play 5 full games to be ranked on the ladder and receive your C-Gear skins.

Hoping my disconnection troubles are solved now, but it’s going to take a lot of games to half my current DC Rate.

Is it just me or does this format seem really simple?
Yeah, it really is.
one to CodyVGC who was 1864, I really felt like I was dominating the game and got everything right (and got myself in the winning position with everything weakened to sweep late game). However, I didn’t account for the possibility of Choice Scarf on the foes Genesect so I just missed out on the win.
Just lost two games in a row though
I just faced Lalita from USA who was only on 1550 something… Lost due to a Fusion Bolt crit from Zekrom on my Terrakion at the end. However, I don’t mind losing now even though I was at 1730~ since I need to lower my DC rate a hell of a lot! It’s still probably about 28% haha.

Yeah, I’m not even battling anymore since I want those skins and don’t want my disconnect rate to go any higher. If this was an ubers tournament, I’d probably be doing better. I had a 50-7 score on the ubers ladder on PS before I had some bad luck with crits and deliberate revenge counter-teams.
Your team is really well-balanced against the majority of the metagame I’ve seen in this tournament. Do you have HP Psychic on your dragons to deal with Conkeldurr, or do you just use flying moves on your Tornadus/Landorus-T?

Although to be honest I’m surprised I haven’t lost yet, both zebstrika and zoroark aren’t EV trained at all, I put them there to play mind games with opponents and discourage t-waves. kyurem and volcarona have shoddy IVs as I only SRed them to have the right natures, but even with an IV of 2 in spA Kyurem’s draco meteor one-shot everything I’ve come across except for a troublesome jellicent I ran across, and meloetta killed with with t-bolt anyway. Ubers spam is fun…
I did win one battle due to pure hax – mislicked on ice-beam instead of draco meteor for kyurem, so it failed to get the KO on the opponent’s meloetta, but then it got frozen lol and I took the game from there. Felt a bit bad for the other trainer though, it was my first battle so I was sitting at 1500 and the other trainer was at 1750+ Precisely why the server matched me with someone so high was beyond me, but their ranking must’ve taken a big dent. Surprised they didn’t D’C on me.
Kinda annoyed that I forgot to teach meloetta relic song – I went into battle wanting to play with her piroutte form only to realise she had perish song and not relic in her moveset >.<
EDIT: how do I get kyurem white’s sprite to show? I type in ‘kyurem-w’ or ‘white kyurem’ and nothing happens…
People seem much more mellow in these Friendlies. No ragequits in my experience. Got 3 connection errors but I think I’m safe from the DQ hammer with a 18-4-3 record. Gonna stop now since this team is seriously flawed. Finishing with a mid-1600s record.
Did pretty decent considering I didn’t use Kyurem/Reshiram/Zekrom/Genesect/Keldeo/Terrakion.

Finishing up the night with 1744 rating, having 50 recorded matches and 8 DCs. All I can say is that I absolutely love 3v3 singles a lot more than 6v6 singles now.
Did 5 battles tonight after scrambling to get the last of the team assembled. 5-0 currently.
Highlight was smashing a 1684 Korean on my second match 3-0.

One question with the DCs – I keep seeing everyone on the forum reporting their DCs – are *you* guys the ones doing the disconnecting or the opponent? Because if it’s the opponent disconnecting and you getting penalised, isn’t that kind of…unfair? Surely Gamefreak would think it out and only punish the people who disconnect, not both players at once?
DCs are if either one of you disconnects. If you disconnect you get the time penalty but you both get a DC and if it gets too high, you wont be ranked.
It’s total number of DCs. It includes your opponent DCing, the connection randomly dropping and your own DCs. I like to think very few people here would intentionally disconnect but the reality of the situation is that even here some people cheat. People track their DCs because they count against you even if your opponent was the one that DC’d. It’s unfair but nothing can be done about it right now due to technical issues. We all hope that they fix it in 6th gen.

I guess its safe to show my team now. Anyone play me? Currently 20-1-2. Really surprised that nobody is using Weavile. I have had so many Weavile three turn sweeps.
Ah right, I see. Yeah that does seem rather unfair for the people who get DC’d on. Fortunately I haven’t come across any so far, but then again I usually stop at around 10 battles because I normally enter to get the prizes, so I battle to get a ranking before quitting (C-Gear black kyurem skin? WANT)

Somebody came at me with Flash Zekrom this is a funny world we live in!
I faced a mirror match with another volcarona – and that player got greedy with their quiver dances. Turn 1 we both QD, turn 2 I attack and he goes for another, turn 3 he attacks, goes first and crits me, but I’m sashed so I hit him back, and my 1HP volcarona vaporises the rest of their team at +1 XD
Surprised that person didn’t carry priority, especially when their last pokemon was a weavile and I expected it to use fake out. Maybe people think fake out isn’t useful in singles?
