2013 Spring Friendly
If you’re tired after the competitive nature of the 2013 Spring Regionals and International Challenge in April, you’ll be glad to hear that the next event will feature a significantly more relaxed experience! With no Championship Points up for grabs, the 2013 Spring Friendly is a singles tournament featuring only Unova Pokémon and no banlist aside from that. That’s right, from the looks of things, you can use that Meloetta you picked up recently! Remember that unlike the Doubles format we play a majority of the time, the Singles format only allows 3 of your 6 Pokémon to be used!
Registration goes from May 9th to May 16th with the actual tournament taking place from May 17th to 20th.
Registration Period
00:00 UTC, Thursday, May 9, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Competition Dates
00:00 UTC, Friday, May 17, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Monday, May 20, 2013.
Ruleset
- Battle Format: Single Battle
- Pokémon will be levelled down to Level 30
- Players may use only Pokémon found in the Unova Pokédex of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.
- Pokémon may not hold the item Soul Dew.
- Pokémon may not use the move Sky Drop or Dark Void during battle.
Prizes
- All players who end up on the final rankings (are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played) will receive Black Kyurem & White Kyurem C-Gear skins.
Age Divisions
- Junior & Senior Division: Born in 1998 or later
- Master Division: Born in 1997 or earlier
Requirements
You must be using a Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 game card to participate in these tournaments.
Disconnections
You must play 5 full games to be ranked on the ladder and receive your C-Gear skins.

I keep expecting to see Fake Out from Weavile but yeah, nobody seems to be carrying it. It would be pretty useful for busting sashes on lead pokemon. Guess they want Brick Break or something…
That’s because with the exception of things like Technitop in UU, Regenerator LO Mienshao, and Ambipom, Fake Out isn’t all that useful in singles. Probably too situational for 3v3.

Pretty ok with how this team has done so far…have had my issues with heavy psychic-type teams, but besides that I’m running well, 26-2-2 at around 1700 rating.

Just played a player whose name is Vita for the third time in this tournament and I was about to beat him for a third time. This is rather annoying because they haven’t D/Ced on me yet. Yes, I did get a bit of hax in my favor but it doesn’t justify d/cing just so you can maintain your 1900+ rating

almost at 1800… a lot of DCers and a lot of people of questionable ability.
I did have Cursed Body, yes. I don’t recall playing anybody twice but I didn’t pay much attention to trainer names this time around.
I rocked this thing after six games with my expert team of Gothitelle/Muk/Stoutland/Conkeldurr/Reshiram/Cottonee. Great in game team here :3 Cottonee was a boss xD

Are there more hackers in this tournament or has the Battle Video upload option been out of whack? I’ve seen a number of complaints about people not being able to upload their vids to Gamefreak’s servers and I’m having the same problem. Makes you wonder why the Battle Video filter is better at identifying hacks than the wifi tournament setup.
I was thinking the same, I tried to upload one but it said there was a problem (I’m assuming it is something to do with Genesect).
I haven’t tried to upload another yet but I just saved a good game so I’ll try again.
Just lost to a ‘Mr John’ on 1874, highest I’ve seen so far. Stone Edge miss easily cost me the game, I hate that move, I hate it so. Of course he hits all three Draco Meteors, both of his Stone Edges and even a Hurricane outside of Rain.
Played Maria, no location 2013 rating, seemed like a ridiculously high rating, but her team was well-rounded. She did actually paly well, but I beat her by predicting a switch from Landorus-T into Victini and Earthquaking and the screen goes blue. Surprise.
Also, I have Espeon problems. Almost lost 3-0 to one before Mamoswine had a word with it (and the rest of the team). Anyone else noticing any sort of weird mons that are doing well?

man, just went on a massive tanking spree.. think i just lost 3 in a row and 4 of my last 5. was at 1780 and now i’m at 1706! ouch.
the team i’m using has some issues with fast fighters if i don’t pick my 3 perfectly… meinshao killed me in two or three matches, terrakion just got me in my last one
and i keep forgetting that i’m not always playing ultra competitive people… mamoswine is outspeeding a lot of things i don’t think it should and it’s really screwing me up

Wow, luck is really not with me right now. I just played Raito with the highest rating I’ve seen so far (close to 1900). I outplayed him every turn and it comes down to Jellicent vs Excadrill. I’m Relaxed with Sitrus so I take his Earthquake, heal up, and Scald him (obviously no Burn). Game is mine.. Until crit Earthquake. It seems I’m losing games at the moment on the one possible small chance of me losing them right now. My last 3-4 losses have been like this
I feel ya Havak, had one of those streaks yesterday, seemed like every time I hit 1700 the NOPE factor kicked in. You’ll break out of it eventually ^^
Ended up going on an excellent 30 game win streak before, now sitting somewhere near 1850. Minus two or three matches, this tournament has been extremely easy so far.
Yeah, I hope so! I’m glad I haven’t had many DCs lately at least! I’d rather lose a game than have someone DC on me at the moment, that’s for sure. I’ve managed to get my DC Rate from about 38% to 22% just today. Hopefully if things keep going like this I can get it 18% or below with a good streak of wins (and some luck of my own maybe).

Well, now that I’ve finally broken 1700 I’m officially retiring from this tourney, since I’m too chicken to risk losing XD 18-0-3 final score – I’ve never gone undefeated before so I want to savour the success.
One of my opponents DC’d during team preview. That was strange, considering they had a team full of legendaries and I only had 3. They stood a good chance of winning, not sure why they’d suddenly quit o.0

maybe cuz his only use is swagger and stun spore abuse….
Don’t you have something better to do with that Pokemon/move slot than swagger? It’s not even good in singles. Unless you’re just in to troll.

The team has been working really nicely so far. Sitting at around 1834 or so. Might battle a little bit more today, but I have errands to run so we’ll see.
