2013 Spring Friendly

If you’re tired after the competitive nature of the 2013 Spring Regionals and International Challenge in April, you’ll be glad to hear that the next event will feature a significantly more relaxed experience! With no Championship Points up for grabs, the 2013 Spring Friendly is a singles tournament featuring only Unova Pokémon and no banlist aside from that. That’s right, from the looks of things, you can use that Meloetta you picked up recently! Remember that unlike the Doubles format we play a majority of the time, the Singles format only allows 3 of your 6 Pokémon to be used!

Registration goes from May 9th to May 16th with the actual tournament taking place from May 17th to 20th.

Registration Period

00:00 UTC, Thursday, May 9, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Thursday, May 16, 2013.

Competition Dates

00:00 UTC, Friday, May 17, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Monday, May 20, 2013.

Ruleset

  • Battle Format: Single Battle
  • Pokémon will be levelled down to Level 30
  • Players may use only Pokémon found in the Unova Pokédex of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.
  • Pokémon may not hold the item Soul Dew.
  • Pokémon may not use the move Sky Drop or Dark Void during battle.

Prizes

  • All players who end up on the final rankings (are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played) will receive Black Kyurem & White Kyurem C-Gear skins.

Age Divisions

  • Junior & Senior Division: Born in 1998 or later
  • Master Division: Born in 1997 or earlier

Requirements

You must be using a Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 game card to participate in these tournaments.

Disconnections

You must play 5 full games to be ranked on the ladder and receive your C-Gear skins.

My luck still hasn’t swung the other way yet :(

Just had a Tyranitar crit me 4 turns out of 5 against a player over 100 points lower than me (the one turn it didn’t crit me it used Stealth Rock lol).

  2. Expert Evan says:

I believe I’m finally over 1800 as I intend to quit but this is rather fun even with a half-prepared team.  Imposter ditto is actually fun to use in this tourney.

  3. foodking2win says:

    Finished on 1881 rating

  4. foodking2win says:

My team was hydigon ,thundrous t,zekrom, kurem white, keldeo and genesect

  5. Expert Evan says:

I should’ve quit when I was at 1812 as a few bad losses now got me below 1800.

  6. Abaris says:

So, finishing in the 1700 (don’t even care anymore).
My first Wi-fi tournament, and I’m already dissapointed. I mean, my first match: the dude Dc’s. :(
And last night was the worst: I get stalled by a Vaporeon ALL 30 MINUTES LONG, and the highlight of the night; a dude with 2000 ranking (pretty rare, because it was just the second day) Dc’s at me when I’m about to win. (TT^T)
Actually the best match I had on the whole week.
So, TPCi, you better get your stuff together in 6th gen.
Still, it was fun. I better quit before the Disqualify. I want those skins :33
Also, anybody know when is the next Wi-fi tourney?

That would be the International Challenge in the end of June. Around the 20th I believe.

I am going to stop now. Around the low 1800’s. I really wish I had more time this weekend though. My final record was 40-1-8 and the loss was my first match thanks to a crit for my opponent. So really, I had a 40 game win streak and man was I on fire. Hope you all did well!

  9. Mr Rock says:

When does this end in EST? I wanna know if I should pack it in for the night or keep going.

  10. tlyee61 says:

I don’t think I have any more time to do this, so I unregistered at 1748. with 33-2-1 (at the trainer card). Will be writing a report on this.

  11. Recon X says:

If anybody in the Seniors division had their team swept by a life orb Cincinno, that was probably my work. I battled this one guy with a rating in the high 1800s who had a trainer message that said something like “Watch my INCREDIBLE power take care of YOU. He was probably my least challenging opponent and I beat him 3 to 0 with only my Cincinno. It was hilarious to watch his Keldeo, Thundurus-T, Kyurem-W fall to a cute little chinchilla wearing a scarf. That thing is seriously powerful and deserves a lot more attention than it gets. I don’t feel like playing anymore, so I canceled my participation at 1802 with 38 wins and 2 losses. Just out of curiosity, did anybody else use a Cincinno?

  12. foodking2win says:

have i seriously got the highest rating on nuggetbridge

  13. Expert Evan says:

Here was my half-prepared team I was using as I got as high as 1812 when I should’ve quit only to start facing a bunch of counter teams dropping me down close to 1700 so I’m not pushing forward anymore:

    what is it? :0

  15. Havak says:

I think I’m going to call it a day now after breaking 1800 for the fourth time. I can’t believe how many times I got unlucky in this event and my DC trouble on the first day was horrendous. I think I’ve done really well to get a ~40% DC Rate down to what I think is under 16.5% so I should rank and get the C-Gear Skins (which is all I wanted in the beginning anyway). My final score was 1803 and here is my team:

    @ Choice Scarf
    Adamant
    – Close Combat
    – Stone Edge
    – Earthquake
    – X-Scissor

    @ Chesto Berry
    Bold
    – Thunderbolt
    – Hidden Power [Flying]
    – Thunder Wave
    – Rest

    @ Haban Berry
    Modest
    – Draco Meteor
    – Ice Beam
    – Fusion Flare
    – Earth Power

    @ Focus Sash
    Adamant
    – Crunch
    – Stone Edge
    – Earthquake
    – Fire Punch

    @ Sitrus Berry
    Relaxed
    – Scald
    – Shadow Ball
    – Ice Beam
    – Recover

    @ Life Orb
    Hasty
    – U-turn
    – Bug Buzz
    – Flamethrower
    – Thunderbolt

Thanks to Gonzo for getting me the mons :)

  16. I got to 1880 but then Reshiram decided Blue Flare and DM should both miss. I’m at about 1840 now but whenI get home i’mma hustle harder to try and break 1900 again (though i’ll probably upset myself in the process…)

    Reshiram
    Genesect
    Ditto
    Conk
    Terrakion
    Thundurus

Ditto pwns hyperoffense and dragon noobs so swiftly, he prompts so many DC’s. Flame Charge Reshiram is also the bees knees.

  17. Bopper says:

    Don’t worry, not for long.

  18. Mr Rock says:

I’ve decided to call it quits. My luck (if that’s what you want to call it) is getting pretty shitty, and I don’t want to risk more D/Cs coming my way. Funny thing is I thought this was supposed to end last night.

So, my final rating is 1700 on the dot with 30 completed battles. Not bad for someone who barely got time to play or even make a coherent team. I might actually write up a team analysis for this, it was kinda fun.

    Spoiler

One thing I thought was interesting is that some of the higher ranked teams (like 1750-1860ish) either didn’t have or barely utilized the Uber dragons. There were also a surprising amount of teams weak to Keldeo, regardless of rating.

    Team:

    Most Used Pokemon: Kyurem-White
    Least Used Member: Thundurus-Therian
    Most KO’s: Volcarona

What’s Junior/Senior? They couldn’t decided what age group to place you in? Or did they just mesh the two together?

for non-VGC tourneys they mesh them together
but i am on the older side of seniors

  22. tlyee61 says:

aww, the rest of the seniors still have time for this. xP hopefully ~1760 gets me somewhere.

  23. Drizzleboy says:

    I am at 1964. top that :P

  24. Bopper says:

Stopping at an 1886 rating with 69-12-20 (19.80% DC rating).

    Spoiler

I’ll go ahead and paste my team in a spoiler below for anybody who wants to know what I was running.

    Team:

    Spoiler

MVPs were for sure Tornadus + Kyurem + Terrakion. I think I brought those three for at least 75% of my matches. They worked so well together.

All in all I thought this tournament was a blast. It was great to get to try out a new metagame after a bunch of dead air in VGC.

  25. Die2Distroy says:

Somehow I got around 1750 with only 4 Pokemon and with only 4 members of my VGC Team, XD

  26. jio says:

I think 1911 is a good record to end with. Got a ton of streak of D/Cs from my opponents on the last day which was to be expected, but i hope it doesn’t cost me the C-gear skins ): . Still it was a ton of fun and we definitely need more tournaments like this

I’ll go ahead and post the team i used since everyone else did

    Spoiler

Reshiram Reuniclus and Excadrill were definitely the MVPs and were good at catching off guard which helped a ton. Expected bulky Thundurus to be more useful than it turned out to be :/

Also who is GFuknown from New York? I beat him/her about three times but they d/cd the third time :/

  27. Chilebowl says:

Finished at 1968 with 143 matches completed. I lost track of my wins and losses after Saturday and didn’t get a chance to play on today.  However, I do know I finished with 28 d/ces which puts my D/C rate at about 19.5%, hopefully this will be good enough to keep me in the running.

  28. tlyee61 says:

I’ll go ahead and post the team i used since everyone else did
    647-resolute.png
    Keldeo-Resolute @ Expert Belt
    Trait: Justified
    EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
    Timid Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    – Hydro Pump
    – Surf
    – Secret Sword
    – Icy Wind

Just curious, why did you have Keldeo with a zero Speed IV but Timid and max investment in Speed?

  29. jio says:

I literally just fixed that as you posted, it was a mistake lol

  30. tlyee61 says:

    oh haha
I was thinking, hm did he deliberately want to lose the speed tie xD
