Eon Ticket Distribution to Begin Viral Spread at Pokémon Tournaments & Leagues

If you want Latias in Pokémon Omega Ruby or Latios in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, you’ll need to get an Eon Ticket and use it to get to the Southern Islands in the game. So how do you do that? The Pokémon Company International has revealed details on how the Eon Ticket will be distributed in the United States, Canada, and UK. We will add more on other countries as we get more information. Though the ways the first people in each region will receive the Eon Ticket may differ, everyone can spread the Eon Ticket via StreetPass to everyone around them!

US & Canada

The over 1000 official Pokémon League Leaders across North America will be sent the very first Eon Tickets. From there they will be able to spread them around. Pokémon Leagues are regular places to meet, talk and play the Pokémon video game and trading card game. If you’ve never been before, now is the perfect time to find your closest League and meet new people who share your enjoyment of the series as they too look for their own Eon Ticket:

Are you a League Leader? Make sure you create a thread for your league in our Local Events forum and let players know they can find an Eon Ticket there!

Remember, many League Leaders will also be running Premier Challenge Tournaments which are used to earn Championship Points to qualify for the Pokémon World Championships in August. Even if they’re not there, you’ll more likely than not run into fellow fans who have obtained an Eon Ticket to spread.

You’re also practically guaranteed to find an Eon Ticket at the upcoming Regional Championships this February where hundreds of Pokémon fans will show up to compete for the title of Regional Champion and work towards their World Championship invite.

  • Lancaster, California – Pioneer Event Center – February 14th / 15th, 2015
  • St. Charles, Missouri – St. Charles Convention Center – February 14th / 15th, 2015
  • Portland, Oregon – DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Portland – February 14th / 15th, 2015
  • Doswell, Virginia – February 14th / 15th, 2015
  • Kissimmee, Florida – Park Inn by Radisson – February 28th / March 1st, 2015

United Kingdom

The first to receive the Eon Ticket in the UK will be 15 specially selected players who will be able to spread it to all they meet with StreetPass. These first 15 will receive it at a special launch event and receive the Eon Ticket directly from Junichi Masuda! Full details are expected to be revealed on November 13th.

Additionally, players with the Eon Pass are very likely to show up to Premier Challenges and Pokémon Leagues over the next few months as well!

I really like the strategy here. Pokemon, from its inception, has always been a game that has thrived on the community created by real life interactions between people. While I know a lot of people are going to look at this and think it’s going to be a pain to probably have to leave their house to get an Eon Ticket, I think it’s a really nice way to get people out to events where they interact with other people. Clever way to build community, and that’s always the best thing for the game.

Plus, back in the olden days when Eon Tickets were a thing the first time, I had to buy an E-reader to scan mine. I think it’s kinda hard to complain about this distribution method by comparison no matter what you think of it…

  2. Sam says:

Above all else I enjoy the fact that we have an event which doesn’t just involve a) going to Gamestop and getting a code or B) downloading it off of wifi. Maybe I’m just old school but one of my favorite things about the games as a kid was catching legendaries in the game, particularly event legendaries. And from a competitive standpoint, this gives a better way to soft reset for these if my understanding of the soft reset process is correct in that we can use a fainted Synchonise Pokemon at the front of the party to better chances at a good nature. I’ll certainly be trying to get 2 of these, one to soft reset and one to enjoy like the good old days. If that requires 2 game carts so be it, but I’m certainly looking forward to nearly all aspects of this.

  3. Crunchy says:

So pretty much the only way to get the Eon Ticket is to immerse yourself in the growing Pokemon community. Not only is that really, really smart thinking from Nintendo, but it’s also great for expanding the community. Especially in a time where esports is growing as a legitimate event.

Now I just need to find a Pokemon League close to me.

  4. Kayos says:

While I do think this is a great and fun way to release this, I also view it as bad as well.

I live in a small town in New Zealand, I think I have found maybe 5 people in my town that use street pass. and of those 5, I have only seen 1 play Pokémon.
As far as I know, we have only just started recently getting Pokémon Events, but I am unsure if they offer CP for the tournaments (as they often run smogon rulesets, or the rulesets of the fun tournaments held on wi-fi by Nintendo).
And sadly, these events are too far away from me, and it is too expensive for me to travel to them. I’m not 100% sure if we even got the original eon ticket event with the E-reader as well.

So in other words, I think for people like me (who live far from any event in our region, and couldn’t go even if we wanted to) and live in a town where it is extremely rare to get a street pass. We are going to miss out. I really hope they will give it out in another way as well, as I do think this is a really fun way of distributing it and helping events as well! But the downside, the people who live in area’s without events, live in small towns, and/or can’t go to the event will probably miss out.

Someone on Twitter pointed out that the US site says Streetpass is the only way to get it, while the UK site says it’s the best way. Might just be a mistake but it could be worth keeping track of.

  6. Kayos says:

Oo nice, I didn’t notice that myself. I originally thought the UK one said this was an early release of the Eon ticket (But I was extremely tired and and just about to go to bed when the news was released) and when I re-read it and didn’t see it, I panicked!

  7. Maestro says:

I’m amused in a way.  I’ll figure out how to find the blasted ticket, but I do feel bad for the vast number of kids who play the video games and may never do so in public.  Of course, many of them don’t know a thing about Game Stop distributions or Wi-Fi downloads either.  I remain skeptical of the “building the community” theories (no disrespect intended), though I do think the gimmick offers something fun for the existing community.  I’d prefer to simply download distributions via Wi-Fi, but it can be fun to load kids in the car to get the latest Game Stop distribution, and it should also be fun to find the Eon ticket in public.  We haven’t yet competed this season, and maybe the ticket will be available when we jump in later this month or early next . . .

    Eon Tickets, huh…
    How nostalgic.

  9. its a good thing, but from what I’m hearing on the grapevine, there’s some anger over the distribution

  11. PFHedgehog says:

I think this is a really nice idea, its a very ‘Pokemon’ idea, if you get me – its right there at the core value of what Pokemon was built around :)

However, as a UK resident, I have a nasty suspicion it wont work as well here as in the US; being given to 15 people with the intention of circulating it could make distribution difficult, unless these people who recieve it are purposely selected from around the country, therefore maximisng its potential to spread. Hopefully once it reaches a few Nintendo Zones it will be fine.

So long as they end up with people from some of the Streetpass events, or someone who frequents live tournaments (even if that’s TCG), it should be fine. Worse case scenario is people have to wait until Nationals to get it or something, I’m sure someone on here will both get the ticket and be there. If the ORAS demo proved anything it’s that people are surprisingly willing to help each other out with sharing things like this.

Yeah, this is true. I imagine once they hit a city, it should spread easy. I like how its the people in charge of the Play! leagues who get it primarily in the US, I think its a fantastic move on Nintendos part; it’ll give an extra reason for people to attend VGC events :)

  14. Szarkai says:

Well it really fits in with my game plan for getting into VGC live events. Now that I’m in a good position at work I can attempt to change my schedule and hopefully get Saturdays off. There is a League that plays every Saturday really close to where I live, so I can start attending live events and hopefully gain an Eon Ticket for my efforts.

I really hope there is a way to spread it further though. I’m extremely lucky to have a league close by that is likely to have a ticket, and enough hidden Pokemon players around. I hit the mall up for Streetpass and just from a lap and a brush past gamestop I got 10 miis! I used to live in a very small town though so I remember how events like these where such a pain since I’d have to travel quite the distance to attend, if it was even in my state! For those without the ability to travel so freely, it will be rough…
Hopefully it will go viral enough to make it to remote areas, or something can be done to send to those areas. Like friendpass or the secret base thing. Share your secret base and pass an Eon Ticket with it maybe?

  15. 13ulbasaur says:

Oh lord. So what happens to countries that are ‘Not US’ and ‘Not UK’? GG. v_v Wanted to be able to SR my own so I could nickname it how I want. 🙁

Well, at least I live in New Zealand now where I have a 1% higher chance of getting an event than where I used to live in Malaysia. I just hope this isn’t region locked too, since my 3DS is a gift from US. :/

This is making me unnecessarily upset.

  16. youxiu says:

Can’t i just turn up to game on release date and hope they have it? Because I doubt I’ll be avle to get it any othrr day. I shouldn’t be forced to go to pokemon events ( tournaments, i mean. I do attend other events ) just to get a eon ticket. They shouldve done it via GAME STORE and spread it to whoever came to game on that day rather than give it to 15 selected people. What happens if those people don’t care for spreading it around? I’m stuck in Southampton till December :c

  17. Firestorm says:

Just got mine. Looks like distribution begins on the 26th in North America.

    Hello, Pokémon Organizer!

In this email, you’ll find a unique Eon Ticket code that enables you to revisit Southern Island in your game and catch the Legendary Pokémon Latias in Pokémon Omega Ruby, or Latios in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Because of your support of the Play! Pokémon program and involvement in your local Pokémon community, you are among the first in the world to receive this code. Please note that the Eon Ticket code cannot be redeemed until November 26, 2014.

  18. Crunchy says:

    So party at Firestorm’s house?

  19. 13ulbasaur says:

I hope some Americans visit New Zealand and happen to pass by in my small town.

I guess I’ll just have to get Ruby and Soft Reset the Latios during the story? >_>

  20. King Arceus says:

I can confirm the code in the email works because I used mine this morning.

  21. AlphaZealot says:

    Codes should activate today.

  22. starmetroid says:

I activated mine last night, it must be a timezone thing.

  23. tlyee61 says:

now, you don’t even need to go outside and be social to get the other eon twin!

  24. Nobody says:

When I first read the info about the release of Eon tickets, from a different site and source mind you, it also stated that participating retailers would also have active street pass distributions of them. While the leagues in my area are pretty slim and are quite difficult for some to reach or attend, there have been numerous street pass activations and distributions happening in some areas(such as major shopping districts where there is a large mall complex plus several strip and mini malls containing multiple GameStop stores and multiple Toys-R-Us).

I wonder if it will also be distributed from retailer street pass setups or not.

  25. archimom says:

Btw, you don’t need to have ORAS in your ds for it to work. My daughter got it at a Premier Challenge this afternoon, and of course she had X, and hadn’t thought to bring AS. When we got home and she switched cartridges, it worked!

  26. Guys, I have a cool update about Eon Tickets. There’s another way of getting one of these elusive babies. If you have street pass on while playing ORAS and connect to WiFi in game, you pass by a lot of people in the world automatically, and when you update your BuzzNav, there’s a chance you passed by someone with it and it’ll tell you to go to the Pokémon Center and get it! Thats how I got mine last night. Has this happened for anyone else? (I’m in America btw)

  27. EvilMario says:

Picked mine up randomly through StreetPass in Toronto yesterday.
