Manchester Pokémon Tournament #5 Announced

We’re happy to announce the fifth grassroots Manchester Pokémon tournament! Switching venues for the first time, Pokémon will be taking over the Kyoto Lounge venue in Manchester, United Kingdom on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 with sign ups starting at 11:30am. We’re teaming up with Nintendo UK and thus making a few changes from the tournaments that occurred last year. Firstly, the tournament is now free to enter for everyone! This is a great leap forward and we’re really stoked to finally be able to do this. While a lot of people don’t mind paying money to enter Pokémon tournaments (and win great prizes), I’m sure we’d all rather not! Secondly, is the introduction of a Juniors Division for players aged 12 and under which should make things a lot fairer. Lastly, however, is the one point we’re not as happy about. We’ll most likely be switching to Single Elimination (best of one game) for this event. A variety of things have made this seemingly the only option and believe us, we would run a Swiss-Style event if we could (and still might change it to Swiss on the day if at all possible). We’ll still be using the current Modified Format (VGC ’13 Rules) for this tournament.

Kyoto Lounge boasts a 90″ projected screen, multiple 46″ televisions, games consoles, and PC’s making it the perfect gaming environment. What’s more, it hosts and in-store bar serving drinks and food for all gamers (anyone wishing to purchase alcohol at this event will need photographic proof of age). We’re really hyped for this event and hope that as many of you as possible can turn up! Please confirm your attendance on the Facebook Event Page listed below if you are expecting to come (sign ups will still happen on the day on a first-come-first-served basis). If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Nugget Bridge thread or on the Facebook Event Page.
