Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Announced for November 2014 Release

Today, we received some surprising news about new games in the Pokémon franchise for release later this year in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They are widely believed to be remakes of the third generation games which nobody expected at all. We have no information on the titles outside the release date which is planned for November 2014 as a worldwide release, much like Pokémon X and Y. Also like Pokémon X and Y, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International seem to have dropped the word “Version” from the titles of the games.

Nintendo says that, “Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favorite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.”

With a November 2014 release, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will not make it in time for the first Regional Championships of the VGC ’15 season in October. Like the VGC ’13 and VGC ’14 seasons, we expect to play using Pokémon X and Y at the fall regionals before switching to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire after mid-December. Keep in mind that the VGC ’15 season will be the first year we will hopefully have events on a regular basis if the current Premier Challenge pilot program pans out. It remains to be seen how long that Play! Pokémon decides is sufficient before sanctioned events switch to the new games.

Looking forward to these games. Just hoping Latias/Latios will be like the birds in XY, assuming they’re in.

This argument is as heated as a scuffle between idealistic criminal syndicates! Anyway, today couldn’t help shouting “HURRN CUNFURRMED!” upon hearing the news. Excited for a hoenn with a current-gen feeling, new megas, contests, bases, and importantly, a fresh battle frontier!! One curious thing I encountered here though was the speculation on mega starters – their competitive assets seem strikingly similar to the ones in the fanmade game pokemon zeta/omicron (whoa even got the greek alphabet). Still, Hoenn>>>>Fanmade

im so pumped for this, since there was move tutors in ruby and sapphire im hoping they bring them back in the remakes

  5. lucariojr says:

come on gf we need augmented reality battles IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK

  6. crobert says:

In anticipating the pentagon rule for VGC15, as long as they make catching legends easy I won’t complain (I guess shiny in pretty balls is asking for too much…)

  7. KinRyuTen says:

I hope there aren’t too many new legendaries available. I really like all of the creativity in the format right now.

I do to, and would love it if they honestly said “No Legendaries at all” but GF wont do that.  Again, A Mega should replace the need for a legendary.

The main things I want from these games are a Grass/Dragon Mega Sceptile, and the music remastered in all its trumpet glory.

Yes, a Grass Dragon would be awesome.  Though it would have some pesky weaknesses like Flying, Bug, Poison, Dragon, Fairy and a 4x Ice Weakness.  Just give it a boss ability and we’ll look pass the old “This is a fragile speedster pokemon”.

Now I’m wondering, will it still be a Mega Ring, or will the device be different this time?

Would be easiest if they dropped the nonsense about Pokemon love needing some ring that exists as a ever used key item otherwise and junk and just say “here’s the stone, equip it for good fun”

I am just generally curious if anyone’s tried mega evolving over like wifi or at a regional without clearing the story to where you get the mega ring? Say you just started a fresh game and transferred over everything you were gonna use, would it let you mega evolve? Or is this ring just needed for use like ingame and junk?

Are you sure? I would think that certain legendaries would help take care of certain megas.

You need the mega ring to mega evolve period.

A friend and I went to one of the premier challenges and he wasn’t very far in the game, but I gave him a team. When we took it on a practice run the battle went something like: “Why didn’t you mega evolve?” “How do you mega evolve?” “You push the giant glowing button.” “…what button?”

He then stayed up until 2AM getting the mega ring. It was also pretty funny the next day when he couldn’t save his battle videos because he didn’t have the vs recorder.

Lol, and thanks for the clarification, was genuinely curious as I know some people never bother playing through the game if they can help it. So yeah, hopefully RS remakes will do away with some silly ring.

  12. Livy says:

About the mega ring: It doesn’t have to be a ring, nor bracelet. It can be anything that holds the stone. A necklace, a brooch, any piece of jewellery. Given that, I hope they do do something different.

Also given that Megas were discovered in kalos I hope this remake will be a sequel to incorporate the new stuff. Although, nobody is sure if there actually is a timeline between all the games. Besides gen 1 and 2 they could be MANY years apart. So kalos could have happened before hoenn… and the story could be redone slightly incorporating megas.

Maybe i’m thinking too hard

  13. Twinhead says:

Hey guys charizard got 2 megas…. Why? Cause he was popular, now everyone who do u liek? Mudkips therefore… Give swampert 2 megas one with drizzle and one with sap sipper!

And the problem with that? Broken yes but I was thinking swampertite what? The answer swamperite Alpha and swamperite Omega. Think about it…

Also immense mind games… Say u have a sun lead charizard y and vennusaur, will he mega evolve to change the weather? Or sap sipper the solar beam? Come on game freak u gave torchic speed boost and charizard 2 megas do this for Twinhead!

  14. chowjed says:

Mega Hydreigon, Mega Metagross, and Mega Dragonite pls.

  15. ZzamanN says:

Just some wierd crap ive been spammed on Facebook:
    External

  16. Thunderlock says:

I am really excited for this one.

5 things i want to see put in/brought back

    1. Secret Bases – Would be super fun to build a secret base to invite a few friends over, you could fill it with traps, or just make a cool band with the note block’s :D hope it is brought back
    2. Contest- I know they aren’t the most useful thing in the world but, it’s a nice pastime after you beat the game and want something else to do besides battle.
    3. Diving- Not something like black/white did with 1 area that lasted for like 20 min tops…Like they did in the original, with multiple area’s to explore.
    4. Customization of characters- Hoenn just feels like it needs the X and Y clothing brought into the game, hopefully with more options for things like hair and such
    5. And for kick’s lets go to the moon :P

  17. Mudkip421 says:

I’m just here waiting for Mega Zangoose and Mega Seviper. They’ve always been pretty cool.

  18. I can’t see why they would remove all the fan favorite features from X and Y, like customization, and all the features from Emerald as well, like the Battle Frontier. If the fans like them, why get rid of them? Here’s fingers crossed to an epic game!!

  19. cfsmith11 says:

Come on Mega Arcanine. We need some more viable fire options

  20. Adib says:

Serebii has confirmed that these games will be full-remakes of RSE. It won’t be like BW2 where they revisit a region after visiting it in a previous game

  21. youxiu says:

I for one just hope it’s a remake, or a sequal with dive still being hugely important. I’m also in favor of hoenn only + the legends.

But I’ll be happy if we get mega flygon with mold breaker 80/130/100/80/100/130. It’s the only fitting ability. Being able to kill those annoying rotomws with eq. I really can’t see arena trap being more useful than mold breaker. Oh and please give flygon dragon dance. /please/ if it has to be a level up move or tutor move so be it.

  22. projectmars says:

From Serebii: The Daisuke Club got emails that pointed out the differences with the Groudon and Kyogre shown on the box, stating that they are showcasing “never before seen Pokemon.”

Now the question is: Alpha Kyogre and Omega Groudon or Mega evolutions?

  23. Gonzo says:

Can be either, really. Japanese and Korean covers feature small Blue and Red Orb with Alpha and Omega on them. I’d personally lean towards Mega Evolutions as they are the theme of this Generation.

  24. Mega UNKNOWN says:

Since X and Y everyone thinks mega evolutions. Why not have more regular evolutions?

  25. Gonzo says:

Except, it doesn’t make any sense for legendaries, whatsoever.

  26. Thunderlock says:

Since X and Y everyone thinks mega evolutions. Why not have more regular evolutions?

…I just wanna say your name IS Mega Unknown….Just sayin

  27. Eevee132 says:

Do you think that the release of these new pokemon guys will completely shift the meta game or will only make slight differences. Also what are your thoughts on the message that pokemon sent that said that the box art legendaries are more then a style change and actually be forms or mega evolutions :)

  28. Firefly says:

Since X and Y everyone thinks mega evolutions. Why not have more regular evolutions?

    Why not regular unknown?

  29. Szarkai says:

Since X and Y everyone thinks mega evolutions. Why not have more regular evolutions?

I’m leaning towards Giratina and its Origin Forme. When holding their specific orbs, they change.

I could be very wrong, but it makes a bit of sense too.

  30. glooba says:

Here comes water spout Kyogre!!!! (Oh boy).
