Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Announced for November 2014 Release

Today, we received some surprising news about new games in the Pokémon franchise for release later this year in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They are widely believed to be remakes of the third generation games which nobody expected at all. We have no information on the titles outside the release date which is planned for November 2014 as a worldwide release, much like Pokémon X and Y. Also like Pokémon X and Y, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International seem to have dropped the word “Version” from the titles of the games.

Nintendo says that, “Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favorite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.”

With a November 2014 release, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will not make it in time for the first Regional Championships of the VGC ’15 season in October. Like the VGC ’13 and VGC ’14 seasons, we expect to play using Pokémon X and Y at the fall regionals before switching to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire after mid-December. Keep in mind that the VGC ’15 season will be the first year we will hopefully have events on a regular basis if the current Premier Challenge pilot program pans out. It remains to be seen how long that Play! Pokémon decides is sufficient before sanctioned events switch to the new games.

Considering you need orbs to get them in RSE/hgss, I guess the formes are more likely than megas. Maybe they give it back to you.

  2. Fiasco says:

    Mega Metagross
    Ability: Levitate
    Base Stats: 100/175/140/105/130/50

    Why not filter?

Filter would be better, that is just my speculation on what I think GF would do. I definitely would not want a speed drop on Metagross, because pokemon like Ampharos aren’t used at all, and even with 90 base mega garchomp is never seen even though his ability basically gives him life orb on half his moves.

  5. Twinhead says:

    All aboard the hype train!

Personally I think these are formes they always do that with cover Legends, and using a meme I saw mega mewtwo’s stones were man made therefore legends don’t usually have megas. I’m more concerned with the plot: is a sequel? Still not ruled out (remakes of the game could be 11 years after emerald) is it a remake (I dunno after emerald story ruby and sapphire feel underwhelming) or is it something no one expected?

Come on troll freak give us mega swampert alpha and omega

  6. youxiu says:

Apparently it was confirmed to be a remake. Though I forgot where I read that today

That’s interesting, but kind of disappointing. I would rather have a new game than something I already played.

Im sure extras could be added to the map, look at frlg.

Exactly, Hoenn has some (very) vast stretches of sea, they can easily populate it with numerous islands and stuff. Or, assuming Dive reverts to how it was used before, maybe some deep diving excursions to sunken ruins and such? In fact if you consider it, you can add a ton of undersea stuff with Dive instead of boring shard collecting.

It’s a good idea but I will destroy whomever makes me spend 5 minutes getting to their base.

  13. youxiu says:

I’d rather underwater cities if I’m honest. Or underwater caves. How would dive bases even work.

  14. Die2Distroy says:

Secret Power could be obtained like Headbutt in HG/SS as a free Tutor Attack, find the guy who would give you Secret Power in R/S/E and he could teach it to a majority of your Pokemon, time to invade everyone’s secret bases and steal any Pokedolls. XD

For some Mega Evolution ideas, here is mine:

Sceptile (Likely since Blaziken got one):
Type: Grass —> Grass or Grass/Dragon (Unsure about Typing, if anyone has one based on the nature of Sceptile, let me know and why)
    Ability: Overgrow/Unburden —> Tough Claws
    Stats: HP: 70, Attack: 85 —> 130, Defense: 65 —> 75, Sp. Attack: 105 —> 120, Sp. Defense: 85 —> 105, Speed: 120 —> 130 (BST: 530 —> 630)

Sceptile was one of the many Pokemon affected by the Physical/Special Split in the transition to Diamond and Pearl, only that this gave it more drawbacks since moves commonly used on Sceptile back in Generation III such as Crunch and Thunder Punch are now in it’s useless Attacking Stat, upon Mega Evolving, Sceptile would be able to take advantage of it’s many Physical Moves such as Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, X-Scissor, Night Slash/Crunch, Rock Slide, Earthquake and the like, Sceptile would be much more of a powerhouse thanks to Tough Claws, making these moves even stronger than normal, Sceptile is normally a Special Attacker, so I gave it a modest boost to it, powering up Giga Drain, DPulse, Focus Miss and Hidden Power Ice/Fire (whichever you want to really, lol). The Speed Boost makes it tie with Aerodactyl, M-Gengar, Crobat and others.

Swampert (Also likely since Blaziken got one):
    Type: Water/Ground
    Ability: Torrent/Damp —> Adaptability
    Stats: HP: 100, Attack: 110 —> 140, Defense: 90 —> 110, Sp. Attack: 85 —> 115, Sp. Defense: 90 —> 110, Speed: 60 (BST: 535 —> 635)

Mega Swampert has the potential to make Grass Types raise pretty high in usage, such as Mega Venusaur, Amoonguss, my Mega Sceptile example and really powerful Grass moves in general, Water + Ground x2 STAB is not to be laughed at (was considering Huge Power because of it’s Arms being able to crush most things, but that would be a bit overdoing it, even M-Mawile has less Base Attack than Swampert not counting Huge Power), Swampert is a slow Pokemon, so I made it’s Mega Spread accordingly so it could take advantage of it’s great Attack and Defenses and it’s below average Sp. Attack with Surf, Mud Bomb and Ice Beam.

    I’ll add more ideas later.

Like the underwater base the main antagonists had?

Both of those are fantastic ideas.  For your MegaSceptile idea, the typing is only an issue of, do you want 5 weaknesses or 6 and one is x4?  Also, Tough Claws fits as Leaf Blade was its main move.

Also, we get to see Hoenn for the first time at night.  IDK why GF decided to ditch the Day/Night mechanic in Gen3 but they did.  I want to see Lilycove in the beauty of Nightime.  Mt Pyre as well with Will-o-Wisps flying around.

Lastly, make the mechanic for Wurmple’s Evolutions something a bit easier to manage so its not such a random chance?

Ah but where does it say hoenn will not change? There is still every possibility that the story will change, it was just confirmation that I will happen in hoenn

also first gameplay on Sunday :0 ALL ABORD

About halfway down the page, next to the Japanese names of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire:

The announcement was made only yesterday, so we were unable to include them in the supplementary document for this financial briefing, but the latest installments from the Pokémon franchise, “Pokémon Omega Ruby” and “Pokémon Alpha Sapphire” will be released globally for Nintendo 3DS in November this year. They are full-remakes of the Game Boy Advance “Pokémon Ruby” and “Pokémon Sapphire” games, which sold more than 5.44 million units in Japan and more than 16.22 million units worldwide.

  19. just hope they implement the whole battle frontier from emerald and not just the battle tower

Could you imagine emerald with a day/night cycle with the internal battery problems :P THE HORROR

  21. Super excited for this, but just curious… Does this mean there probably won’t be a pokekon z? That’s what I was expecting to be released this November.

i think they usually release a new series then the third one…i belive

But yes expect a pokemon Z before a pokemon emerald

I never had my used Emerald long enough before the battery would’ve died, but I can see where you are coming from.

IIRC They released HG/SS after Platinum, but they did release FR/LG before Emerald.

I see what you did there nintendo.

Same here, but it’s not too unexpected. There might be a Z or XX XY (see what I did there?) depending since BW2 made that big of a change.

  26. Thunderlock says:

To be honest i really hope they bring back contest’s and don’t ditch clothing for whatever reason. (More clothing/hair for guys plox)

Can’t wait to see what team Auqa and team Magma are up to

    Why can i only like this once ;-;

  29. Die2Distroy says:

    More ideas from me.

    Flygon —> Mega Flygon
    Type: Ground/Dragon
    Ability: Levitate —> Mold Breaker
    Stats: HP: 80, Attack: 100 —> 125, Defense: 80 —> 90, Sp. Attack: 80 —> 100, Sp. Defense: 80 —> 90, Speed: 100 —> 135 (BST: 520 —> 620)

Ties with M-Manectric and anything else at base 135, KO’s Rotom’s and has a Sp. Attack buff so it can take advantage of Special Moves like Fire Blast better.

    Crobat —> Mega Crobat
    Type: Poison/Flying
Ability: Inner Focus/Infiltrator —> Gale Wings
    Stats: HP: 85, Attack: 95 —> 120, Defense: 80 —> 100, Sp. Attack: 70 —> 90, Sp. Defense: 80 —> 100, Speed: 130 —> 145 (BST: 535 —> 635)

Meet Talonflame 2.0, while not dealing the same amount of damage as Banded Adamant Talonflame and a little less than equal to Life Orb, Talonflame’s defenses should make up for this, also being a Fairy killer with Cross Poison, one of the main drawbacks include not being able to touch Aegislash outside of Dark Pulse and Shadow Ball, also outsped by Max Speed Scarf Gardevoir by one point.

  30. sohaib says:

I hope they implement evasion clause in doubles ( wishful thinking )
