Pokémon X & Y Season 2 Special Ladder Ruleset Announced

With the release of the Standard ruleset for the VGC ’14 season last week, many players were disappointed that there would be no in-game ladder to easily find opponents to practice against from around the world. Quick to respond, The Pokémon Company International has announced that the next Special ladder on Battle Spot will feature the exact same ruleset as the one that will be used for this season’s Video Game Championships. For quick reference, that is:

  • All matches are played in Doubles format
  • Pokemon above Level 50 will be brought down to 50 for the match while those below 50 will stay as-is
  • Players choose 4 of their 6 registered Pokemon after team preview
  • Pokémon must meet all three of the following conditions to be eligible for use:
    1. Pokémon must be found in the Coastal Kalos, Central Kalos, or Mountain Kalos Pokédex (Full list can be found here)
    2. Pokémon must have been obtained in Pokémon X or Y (identifiable by a blue pentagon on the stats screen)
    3. Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are banned
  • Species Clause: No two Pokémon can share the same Pokédex number.
  • Item Clause: No two Pokémon can hold the same held item.

Currently, Season 1 uses Singles battles with only new Pokémon introduced with Pokémon X and Y allowed. The current season ends once Global Link maintenance starts on Monday, December 23rd, 2013 and Season 2 is expected to start shortly afterwards. Pokémon Bank currently has a release date of December 25th in Japan and Korea and December 27th in North America, Europe, and Australia. This will ensure that most, if not all, of the second season will mirror Standard 100%. Pokémon Global Link seasons last approximately three months each.

Here lies almost everyone’s concerns/complaints about playing this ruleset

  5. Ace2014 says:

good, The availability to practice on game instead of a simulator. We all know that the actual game is a billion times as fun as the simulator

    just saying

  6. ryuzaki says:

What needs to be patched? Just installing the ladder itself or some game mechanics?

This is gonna be sweet, now i just need to find a kalos native trick room user since i can’t have dusclops 🙁

  10. TheGr8 says:

Finally!!! I hate playing on sims, it makes this more fun and easier way to practice for those who play on the actual carts!

I was pointing at the fact that Battle Spot has been hacked and software created to abuse it, and that this will hopefully be patched.

Aromatisse and Slowbro/Slowking are pretty solid.

  13. Lleolin says:

Hey I don’t know if that list of allowed Pokemon is correct. I just got done assembling a team to test out in battles, and I kept getting the error “”There is at least one Pokemon that is not able to participate.” After a bunch of experimenting, I removed any Pokemon from before Gen 6. Only then was I able to enter the Special battles. If I add Charizard, Exploud, or Nidoking to my team, I can no longer participate. So it really seems Pokedex is irrelevant; you can just only use Pokemon from with dex no. 651 or greater, probably minus the legendaries. Am I correct on this?

  14. Lleolin says:

Ugh I see my mistake now. Reading comprehension fail.

  15. Necrocat219 says:

Wow, that VGC ruleset booklet linked in the announcement is really out of date; Unless I’m missing something, it is updated 01/09/2013, but It’s not been updated to show XY rules and refers to BW2 rules instead.
