29Results from the VGC ’15 Texas Regional Championship
There’s only one regional this weekend but it made up for it by hosting two Premier Challenges as well — which turned out bigger than last year’s regional! With 206 Masters, the tournament wasn’t quite able to reach a Top 16 cut and only 0-1 players with a 6-2 record would find their way to the second stage of the tournament. Players went in to what they knew was essentially a double elimination event. Here’s who made it to the top this weekend:
Masters Division
- Cedric Bernier (Talon)
- Collin Heier (TheBattleRoom)
- Lee Camacho
- Aaron Zheng (Cybertron)
- Gabby Snyder (JTK)
- Justin Burns (Spurrific)
- Ramiro Juarez
- Omari Travis (BadIntent)
Senior Division
- Ian McLaughlin (Raikoo)
- Brendan Zheng (Babbytron)
- Brandon B.
- Christopher A.
- Max S.
- Dylan S. (DullAce24)
- Ryan K.
- Timothy F.
Junior Division
- Jackson S.
- Emma M.
- Parker H.

I predicted this from the start, everyone should have read my book. I even had a surprise ending with the comeback kid Talon winning it all without dropping a match!
Talon(flame) really did affect this format so much and its no surprise Talon won a regional after Roosting for all of last season.
Congrats to Talon!! He had my support as a former (Talon)Flame, so it’s great to see him back in the game and doing so well. Impressive run and I hope he can continue his streak!
Heh, leaving Talon out of predictions at the last minute doesn’t seem to have been one of my wiser moves. Congratulations to him though, awesome way to jump back into the circuit.
Cool that we got the Collin/Aaron 3rd place hero top cut match. I guess Collin really is the strongest Mawile trainer in the WORLD…
Lee Camacho is raindanceking on the forums!
Timothy F. is me
Hope I don’t sound like a noob, but if anyone recorded the top cut matches, I’d really like to see them.
I believe top 4 matches were recorded, and congrats to Talon and Collin.
Got 38th place, and 14th at the Saturday Night PC.
Was great seeing a lot of people you usually just hear about, and had an awesome battle with Omari Travis.
This was my first ever VGC event, and it was a ton of fun. I actually ended up doing well too! Went 6-2 on Sunday, finishing 24th overall. Met a lot of great people too
VGC just keeps sounding better and better. Now if only America could get their Omega ruby and Alpha Sapphire demo codes…
First time at a vgc event. Went x-2 at the Friday PC, and went x-2 at the regional. Both last losses were on the last round, losing to
You guys didn’t tell me I’d need to pack water for all this salt. q_q
Would like to extend a huge congratulations to my boy TALON for winning!
Talon and the (NPA2) Flames:
oh my god
Thank god for pookar this year huh
go to bed
It was great to see everyone as usual. Aaron’s stalker went hard this weekend. Also unfortunate to see top 8 with 8 rounds. If we had top 16 and another round of Swiss, we would have had all 7-2s make it into cut. Really sad to see that not happen. Congrats to talon who called the meta up the butt.
Super awesome event, really enjoy the VGC community was my first big event, the premier challenges being my actual first. Went 6-2 and got 21st so was extremely happy about that. Congrats to Talon for getting first. ^.^
I Am A Rookie is right. I am Lee Camacho.
I placed in 97th out of 208, with a record of 4 wins and 4 loss. Not great, but better than last year’s Texas Regionals.
Well, I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped. But, not as bad as last year’s Houston Regionals, either. I had terrible records in both Premier Challenges — 2 wins, 4 loss in a 6-round PC on Friday and 3 wins, 4 loss in a 7-round PC on Saturday. (My last win was due to a no-show.) On both nights, I was quite tired because we didn’t finish until 1:00 AM CST. I also made some changes to my team, realizing that Mega Mawile was slower than Mega Kangaskhan. I thought I learned to not rely on Talonflame all the time, but I still used it when I didn’t need to.
Even though my record is rather average, I did manage to take out 3 out of 4 Pokemon in two matches I lost. But, when I ran into an opponent whose Talonflame had Quick Guard (which I completely forgot about), I started losing confidence all over again. I know I should have fun with events like this, but I’m just one of those guys who think of Pokemon competitions and contests as major university exams, with all the research, EV training, requests, occasional breeding, and trying out in online matches I’ve done over the past year. When I first left, I was beside myself with anger and frustration. But, after I got home and took a nap, I felt a bit better. And now, I don’t feel terrible about it. I just wish I’d made better decisions. But hey, that’s what competitions are about, right?
What I am proud of, though, is how I managed to overcome the threat of Zapdos. My answer: Lightning Rod Manectric. Lots of times, Electric-type attackers would use either Thunderbolt or Thunder Wave. All it did was fuel Manectric’s Special Attack, allowing me to help take down the likes of Zapdos. This was especially because it held a Focus Sash. One time, I ran into a player with a Pachirisu; but, it was too predictable. All it used was Follow Me, and my Mega Kangaskhan helped do the most damage. Then, Manectric finished it with a Snarl when I knew my opponent would switch to Pachirisu from another Pokemon which I can’t remember.
Anyway, I didn’t see my rankings in the Premier Challenges because I went home or up to my hotel room by the time the rankings were posted. However, I did see that I ranked in 97th out of 208 Masters players.
Year after year, Omari Travis (BadIntent) continues to be the gatekeeper for the top 8 slots for the masters division.
Happy to see there were 7 trainers who were serious about being better than him at this event.
* Copying him will never give you a victory *
Again, Omari Travis (BadIntent) has educated quite a few trainers in the ways of strategic pokemon victories.
Look forward to what he brings to the world of competitive pokemon battles, next year !!
Had fun this weekend despite what I feel we’re weak performances for myself. Went 5-2 on the Saturday PC, getting 9th place (the salt was real), and a disappoint 5-3 on Sunday getting 59th. I wasn’t able to get a hold of some Pokemon I would’ve preferred to use but just going to have to see what the next format brings and see if I can make it to another regional.
Were* disappointing*
Smart money curse strikes again
I dont know what you are talking about. I didnt KO my own pokemon. That definitely didnt happen.
Hey, at least you got fourth!
You are so hype MAN!
I am the hype!
