Trick-or-Treat Distribution Introduces Super Size Insomnia Gourgeist
Since the release of Pokémon X and Y, players have had to choose between the stats of the Super Size Gourgeist or Insomnia on a smaller one. Today, The Pokémon Company International announced a new online distribution for a Super-Size Gourgeist and we’ve just confirmed that its ability can be Frisk, Pickup, or even Insomnia. Stats, Ability, Nature, and Gender change on every reset but you can at least breed it afterwards!
You’ll also need a Super Size Gourgeist to participate in this month’s Trick-or-Treat Friendly so get online and grab yours now following the official instructions.

Always seemed silly to me that the Friend Safari Pumpkaboo was only normal sized and never any other size. Still, it’ll be a tough choice between Insomnia and Frisk competitively. On the one hand Insomnia completely counters Dark Void Smeargle, but on the other hand Frisk is quite useful.
Insomnia might’ve been better if the Dark Void scare had panned out more since Gourgeist is naturally immune to the usual grass type sleep moves like Spore, and Frisk is pretty useful for exposing items. Still, free is free, I won’t complain about having Insomnia jack’o’lantern.
Since I can breed it, I just cared about getting Insomnia. Though Frisk is more useful competitively, for the sake of the Halloween tourney, Hypnosis from Gengar and Driftloom is still possible, so Insomnia can be a life saver.
I think I cared more about getting a 2nd Rocky Helm more than the actual Pumpkaboo.
Hopefully will now need to shuffle around where the Rocky Helmet is just a little bit less.
Locked to regular pokeball when rebred, though. Frisk will be the best again once dark void is banned again.
What is there to say apart from “About Time!” Now you have the best option with dealing with Smeargle + Mega Kangaskhan duo, why Super Sized Gourgeist couldn’t get Insomnia in the first place I’ll never get (along with the other 2 but who’s used them? lol). But like Gonzo said, Frisk will be the best option again once Dark Void is banned, fingers crossed it will be banned starting in VGC 15.
But regardless, get it for your DW collection with Insomnia.
Anyone else having a hard time getting a female? Have SRed for 30+ min and am yet to receive a female.
Female is unnecessary for hidden abilities in Gen 6. Just breed with a Ditto until you do get a female.
A male will do the job just as well, and will also pass its size when bred with Ditto. Females just have 80% chance to pass their ability versus Males’ 20%, but its way higher than multiple soft resets.

Fun Fact: Gender is Locked to your cart once you pick it up. Is your first one a male? Guess what gender you’ll always get!
Thankfully, lots of people are getting Insomnia females (Myself included), so people will be trading those…
Unless DV is banned next season, at which Insomnia drops in usefulness.
Gender being locked to cart makes sense; for the 10-15 minutes I spent soft resetting for an Insomnia Pumpkaboo I received females but not a single male.
Oh, and in case there was any doubt, this event is also live for those with Aus / NZ carts.
Oh wow… I was lucky my cart was locked to females. Anyway, I have my sassy pumpkins bred. Time for relaxed and then non-TR variants :3
I’ve also been wonder trading away imperfect females and will be doing that with other natures too. Perhaps you’ll get one that way.
I would have preferred a Pumpkaboo with special moves, like Quick Guard or Follow Me… I don’t know.
Talonflame + Smeargle is a thing in Khan-artist teams, unfortunately, so it’s not even useful for countering Smeargle.
Also, still no Lightningrod Zapdos. Come on Game Freak. Why do pumpkins have their own holiday while thunder birds do not?
Actually the Hidden Ability was changed to Static in Gen VI. Still not released though and would probably be better than static but hey, can’t complain right now
