VGC ’13 Championship Points Update: Italy Nationals

With the Italy National Championship over with, we have a decent picture of who will have byes going into the Germany National Championship next weekend. Please note that some players have not opted into Player Rankings and as a result, they are not listed. Until they opt in, they will not have a bye in Germany nor will they have their World Championship invite. If you have not opted in to the Player Rankings, please do so by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Pokémon website
  2. Log in.
  3. Click “Edit Profile.”
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select: Yes! I want to participate in all available Play! Pokémon Programs including Player Rewards, Championship Points, and Play! Points. By selecting this preference, and providing valid contact information, I am eligible to earn special prizes such as travel awards, scholarships, and event invitations.
  5. Click “Save.”

The Top 16 players in Championship Points will have a bye in Bochum. Only the European rankings have been updated because no North American standings have changed since our last update. You can find the full standings here.

  1. Do we know if any NA players got any CP from the tournament?

  2. Firestorm says:

None did. Top 32 in Masters, Top 8 in Seniors, and Top 4 in Juniors received CP. All of those players were from Europe. I don’t think there were any players from outside Europe in Milan.

Sekiam and Jordi are not opted into Play! Points at the moment. If they’re going to Bochum, they should fix that. Otherwise, Lati and longinus88 will receive byes instead. If anyone knows the online handles of players who we don’t have listed, let me know and I’ll add them!

  3. woopahking says:

Seriously, I should be getting a bye for Germany with 16 CP(I’m in seniors). I’ve sent a support ticket to Pokemon to try and get it changed but it still says I’m from USA and has me at 77th in the USA rankings.

  4. Billa says:

    Baris A = Billa

    Melisa A = Billa-Sis

    Btw, junuor results are wrong.

    It has to be

    1. Melisa
    2. Nathan
    3. Lucie
    4. Adrian

In that case, Nicola T might be out of luck but I’m just going off the official standings (which is what I assume the staff at Bochum will be using). Hopefully your support ticket goes through in time!

The official results show Lucie as the winner of Milan for some reason. I would send in a support ticket about this. I am not sure how they messed up the results like that…

  6. Billa says:

Yeah i have already send a support ticket.

It will really be complicated for woopahking123, because he earned Cp as an NA-Player. Maybe you wouldnt earn 16 Cp with the same results from your IC’s. Maybe more than 16. In any case, you should send a support ticket and you should inform the Organizer of German-VGC.

  7. NoPoke says:

For UK players only. (WoopaKing in particular)

If your country is incorrect on the pokemon.com website I can change it from USA to UK. You need to email me details: name, player ID, date of birth, username, and address so that I can track you down on the pokemon.com website. As long as I can confirm who you are then I can change it from USA to UK. I can’t change anyone who has a parent account ( <age13) as the request has to come from the parent.

[For those that wonder why I can do this it is because I currently have the OP admin role for the UK and IE]

  8. NoPoke says:

FWIW: in the TCG it was common for players to stay opted out in order that they didn’t consume a worlds invite. So players who are planning on going to worlds but not to Bochum or Birmingham might stay opted out until after those events to avoid grinching a bye.

I have no view either way on this as it applies to byes. The little opinion I have is that I think TPCi needs to see how there bye system works when it will be probably be dominated by players who qualify at the earlier events.

  9. Osirus says:

Yeah my points for some reason haven’t been updated, so im still sitting on 20 and although I had an appauling 32nd finish in Milan I should have been awarded 40cp. I’ve sent a ticket to TPCi about this and hope it gets sorted out asap because with an update of these points I would be sitting 15th meaning I would get a bye in Germany (depending on whether those not on the list at present have opted in for points or not). I can see this really screwing me over for this weekend :/
I don’t understand why they cant ever seem to get these updates right considering how important they are.

  10. NoPoke says:

    In defense of TPCi

Who shows up in the ranking is primarily down to the players to get their information correct on the website.

In no particular order the top errors by players are : Wrong country, parent using childs player ID, and not opting in.  It is rare, though not unknown, for the uploaded standings to be different to the live event. When this occurs it is fixed quickly.

  11. Osirus says:

I am always in support of TPCi so please dont take my comments as an insult against them, I do understand that things go wrong from time to time but, I have never had a problem from past events and obtaining cp so I dont know how things have gone wrong in regards to receiving them this time, its like ive been completely missed from the updates. I was also noted on your system in Milan for having a bye with my player ID, name and other information before i registered which I varified upon arriving at the event with staff, im just a bit worried because if it turns out this will cost me a bye I’ll be quite upset.

  12. NoPoke says:

@Osirus check your pokemon account.  In particular where you finished at Milan.

  13. Osirus says:

@NoPoke thanks for all of your help its really appreciated.

  14. DaFlo says:

    I’m crying

  15. woopahking says:

My support ticket came through! I’ve been assured that I have been added to the bye list for Germany :)

  16. NoPoke says:

something else must be wrong if your play profile says uk but you are in the USA ratings… I’ll make some enquiries.,

  17. Lumina says:

Oh I had no idea that my first rounds opponent was pokebasket lol

  18. AlphaZealot says:

There was an issue with the initial upload which resulted in showing incorrect standings/Championship Point rankings. This was a result of merging three TOM files into one. This is currently being fixed by removing this ‘merged-file’ upload and instead using the original three separate TOM files. These are now located here and should be accurate:

Still working on removing the previous upload completely and fixing lingering issues.

Woopaking: I’m checking on your account – it doesn’t seem to be a straight forward solution so it may or may not be fixed in time. Since I create the list of players who are eligible for a Bye I will make sure your name is included since 16 Championship Points places you in the Top 16 for Seniors in Europe.

  20. Scott says:

Kinda hoping someone whiffs Worlds from a top 4 finish for the spectacle of it. I thought it’d be pretty much impossible based on the point distribution when it was announced, since even just tying 250 requires t8+t12+t16 as the most viable way to get there, but with as consistent as some people were in NA and how good most of the top cut in Milan looked I’m a little optimistic something ridiculous could happen. Opportunity in NA Regionals is a little different from the National tournaments since there’s effectively 40 top cut slots instead of 16, but there were a lot of really consistent North Americans that I’d wager vastly outpaced the predictions the CP levels are based on (Zach, Human, Duy, and I cut thrice and Stephen, Nightblade7000, Dim, kamz, R Inanimate, ryuzaki, DrFidget, benjithegreat, tds, EnFuego, FonicFrog, hakemo, Calm Lava, Tyler, dtrain, and Cybertron cut twice) so I’m curious if Europe will be similarly weird. Sadly, it’ll probably get mucked up by the people consistent enough to cut that many times actually winning trips, but still, 4/40 (3/3) and 16/40 (2/3) NA Regional top cut spots going to so few people gives me hope entertainment may happen yet.

  21. Firestorm says:

Updated with new standings. Ignore elo for now. It’s not really used and more of a tiebreaker. I noticed that a few people’s haven’t updated yet but it shouldn’t make a difference for Germany.

  22. Baz Anderson says:

So it has updated further now. Can someone explain what this “Rating” is? I have 1653.78 apparently… :

ELO, basically you gain points if you win a match and lose points if you lose a match, amt. of points gained / lost is based on your and your opponent’s rating at the start of the battle. Since you went 7-3 against opponents in Milan, you gained points in 7 battles and lost points in 3 battles. You can generally expect + 16 per win and – 16 per loss, unless of course your opponent is rated much higher or lower than you.

It’s pretty insignificant though, guess it may come end up breaking ties for CP invites though I doubt that will even happen since Wi-Fi add buffer points to our circuit this year
