2013 International Challenge — April

The next International Challenge has been announced on PGL. Details can be found here. The rules will be the usual GBU Double Battles. Registration will open on 00:00 UTC, April 11th 2013, and closes at 23:59 UTC, April 18th, 2013 and the tournament will run from 00:00 UTC, April 19th, 2013 to 23:59 UTC, April 21st, 2013. Players will be grouped into the usual Junior, Senior, and Master categories. As a thanks for participating, each player who completes at least five matches and are ranked will receive both a Salac and a Liechi Berry.

Players in North America and Europe will receive Championship Points for performing well in this tournament. Full details have yet to be revealed but are likely:

Registration Period

00:00 UTC, Thursday, April 11, 2013 (4PM PST/ 7PM EST April 10th), through 23:59 UTC Thursday, April 18, 2013 (3:59 PM PST / 6:59 EST April 20th).

Competition Dates

00:00 UTC, Friday, April 19, 2013 (4PM PST/ 7PM EST April 18th) through 23:59 UTC, Sunday, April 21, 2013 (3:59 PM PST / 6:59 EST April 20th).

Ruleset

Prizes

  • All players who end up on the final rankings (are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played) will receive a Liechi and a Salac Berry
  • The top 128 players in North America and the top 128 players in Europe in each age division (Juniors, Seniors, and Masters) will receive an undetermined amount of Championship Points that will count towards qualifying for the 2013 Pokémon World Championships in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Age Divisions

  • Junior Division: Born in 2002 or later
  • Senior Division: Born in 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2001
  • Master Division: Born in 1997 or earlier

Requirements

You must be using a Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 game card to participate in these tournaments. You must also have a Pokémon Global Link account synced to your game card. You must have a Player ID linked to your account to receive Championship Points.

Disconnections

You must play 5 full games to be ranked on the ladder and receive your Liechi and Salac Berries. Those who do not finish their battles and disconnect to try and save their record may lose their placing on the ladder as well as receive a ban in future WiFi competitions.


About the Author

is a grizzled Pokemon veteran. Having played competitively since RBY, he picked up VGC in 2009 and never looked back. He has played in 3 World Championships (Second only to Ray Rizzo) and has placed in the Top 10 in all 3 while managing to secure Top 8 in 2. He is the only American in the world to have won two Customized Worlds DS'es.
