2013 Spring Friendly
If you’re tired after the competitive nature of the 2013 Spring Regionals and International Challenge in April, you’ll be glad to hear that the next event will feature a significantly more relaxed experience! With no Championship Points up for grabs, the 2013 Spring Friendly is a singles tournament featuring only Unova Pokémon and no banlist aside from that. That’s right, from the looks of things, you can use that Meloetta you picked up recently! Remember that unlike the Doubles format we play a majority of the time, the Singles format only allows 3 of your 6 Pokémon to be used!
Registration goes from May 9th to May 16th with the actual tournament taking place from May 17th to 20th.
Registration Period
00:00 UTC, Thursday, May 9, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Competition Dates
00:00 UTC, Friday, May 17, 2013, through 23:59 UTC, Monday, May 20, 2013.
Ruleset
- Battle Format: Single Battle
- Pokémon will be levelled down to Level 30
- Players may use only Pokémon found in the Unova Pokédex of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2.
- Pokémon may not hold the item Soul Dew.
- Pokémon may not use the move Sky Drop or Dark Void during battle.
Prizes
- All players who end up on the final rankings (are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played) will receive Black Kyurem & White Kyurem C-Gear skins.
Age Divisions
- Junior & Senior Division: Born in 1998 or later
- Master Division: Born in 1997 or earlier
Requirements
You must be using a Pokémon Black 2 or Pokémon White 2 game card to participate in these tournaments.
Disconnections
You must play 5 full games to be ranked on the ladder and receive your C-Gear skins.

A tournament for Tornadus-T to unleash it’s potential that it has a harder time at in Doubles, I might aswell take part for a few matches for the Kyurem Skins.

I actually like this format for single battles. Lets you rely less on matchups and more on how you play. Team preview is gonna be huuuuge here.

You mean Zekrom/Reshiram/Kyurem-W spam, right?
The rules aren’t clear on whether this is 3v3 or 4v4. From the official rules:
“Register 3–6 of your Lv. 1–100 Pokémon to your Battle Box.”
“At the beginning of each battle, players have two minutes to select four Pokémon to battle with.”
First line suggests teams of 3 and the second suggests a team of 4. I’m guessing it’s supposed to be teams of three, though.
Also there’s an error in the Nugget Bridge article regarding qualifying for the C Gear skins:
“All players who end up on the final rankings (are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played) will receive Black Kyurem & White Kyurem C-Gear skins.”
You need to play 5 matches, not 1.

this sounds exciting. level 30 almost makes dragon rage viable.
I can’t find that anywhere? It says All players who end up on the final rankings get it and when you scroll down it says you need to complete 5 battles to enter the rankings.
My graduation is on the 18th, and I’ll be super tired on the 19th after the all-nighter. Better if I don’t…

Should I go with a team of N mons, or ubers?
The text inside the brackets that says “are not disqualified and have at least 1 match recorded as played” is the problem. It makes it sound like you only need 1 battle to make the final rankings when you need 5.
Psy J and I are actually really excited for this. The level 30 cap makes it quite interesting, and before VGC 13 rules were announced, we were building a doubles team using U2 dex (without ubers). The inclusion of ubers changes things a little bit, but look for us on the net. We have 5 out of 6 monsters picked out, finishing up the last slot right now, and we only have to RNG 3 at most. Everything else we have and is finished.

But yeah, I don’t think Genesect is usable. I tried registering it, and it wouldn’t let me, probably because it has a ribbon attached to it. I ended up having 4 decent Pokemon and 2 random Pokemon. Oh well, all I’m going to do is spam Outrage with Kyurem-B anyway.
