2015 International Challenge June

Registration is open for the 2015 International Challenge — June! As the final online tournament to give out Championship Points this season, players within a few points of each other will be trying to get a leg up on each other. The tournament may very well decide the last few spots for the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. Players will play on the Competition ladder on Battle Spot from Friday, June 26, 2015, at 00:00 UTC through Sunday, June 28, 2015, at 23:59 UTC. There is a limit of 10 battles per day for a total of 30 battles in the tournament. The highest ranked players will receive Championship Points as follows in each age division. Championship Points will not be divided by region but instead will be awarded to the top 256 players.

Placement Championship Points
1–2 12
3–4 10
5–8 8
9–16 6
17–32 4
33–64 3
65–128 2
129–256 1

Registration ends as soon as the tournament begins so be sure to get your entry in on the Global Link now. You don’t need to lock your Battle Box until just before your first match. To register, log in to the Pokémon Global Link and click on the Competitions link on the left hand navigation bar. You must have your Player ID linked to your Pokemon.com account that your game card is associated with before the competition begins to receive Championship Points. Results will be released mid-July.

I hope I’ll get a good score this time.
Good luck and have fan to everyone.

  2. Dreykopff says:

Gonna see how Rhydon does against all the Japan Sand.

If you have the right partners to it, supposedly very well.

I have to know. I played a friendly against the one Rhydon user that top cut Nats and it was pretty much the most ridiculous matchup I ever played with sand. Good luck on making it work against all the rest then, haha.

  3. I’m scared of all the Muk teams ;-;

    Oh dear.

At least this is on a 15 minute timer…right?
    Right?

    Right?

No. I don’t believe so. I would not be worried then.

  6. Amarillo says:

It is a 15 min timer

  7. Aurorusite says:

You shouldnt be worried about muk anyway…ive never seen one in battle spot

Especially with 15 min timer of IC…

    I’ve seen 3.
    It was:
    Muk@Black Sludge
    Minimize
    Curse
    Poison Jab
    Fire Punch

    Every. Time.

  9. Khorneguy says:

I’ve built a ‘ticking time bomb’ Muk for singles. Basically high bulk and attack, then spam Curse until I’m ready to hit Explosion.

Not great, but fun to use. I’ve never seen it used in doubles though. Not sure why you’d even think Muk teams were an issue to prepare for tbh.

It shows up every now and then on Battle Spot and is actually a pretty viable strategy with the longer timer of that format. Though it can be frustrating to play against because the best strategy is generally to stall the full timer and that takes a lot of time and doesn’t really help you practice for formats on a shorter timer…

Particularly common are teams which make use of Simple Beam and Psych Up. With Simple Beam you’re getting +4 evasion on a single minimize and +2 Atk and Def from Curse or just +2 Atk from Power Up Punch. Then a teammate can Psych Up to nab all of the same annoying boosts with the benefit of not being Muk… It’s also good to realize that Psych Up goes through Protect so they can chain this pretty easily if you manage to kill Muk. For example: Audino Psych Ups +4 Evasion Muk, Muk faints because your Nidoking has Wide Lens or something, Audino Protects and its new partner Psych Ups Audino. Now you have a +4 Evasion Audino and basically any of the enormous number of Pokemon that learn Psych Up at +4 Evasion, probably with some Atk and Def boosts for good measure…

Anyway I’m happy to have already beaten a Minimize Chansey team. Not as happy about disconnecting my first game.

  11. It is a 15 min timer

    Thank you. My mistake.

  12. The IC is a constant reminder that you shouldn’t ever go for a prediction until you hit the 1700s, because people who are jack smack at the game will go for that move that normally loses them the game, and win with it.

I’ll edit this post as I play dumb stuff.

Game three: fire punch kang and bright powder lando win  the game…

  13. Aurorusite says:

Went 7-3 today. Some notes for first day:

    – Greninja’s usage was crazy: i saw 4 Greninjas in 10 battles, making it most common poke today along with Kangaskhan.
    – Only 1 Thundurus, Landorus, Sylveon, Cresselia and Charizard was bit weird. Also, 0 Salamences, Gardevoirs and Venusaurs, but 2 Slowbros…
    – No Japan Sand, rain teams, or perish trap…hm weird
    – trick room everywhere
    – found out that my quickly slapped team was very weak to Rotom-H

In general, had alot of fun today. Looking forward to 2 remaining ones.

    – Not only weird teams, but also weird sets. Most hilarious one was no doubt special Garchomp.

Dont forget that a majority of the players in the IC have never played a game of VGC before, so they are using pokes that are good in singles. Hence, greninja and slowbro, and the lack of sylveon/cress who aren’t that good in singles.

  15. Ahh, Kabutops puttin’ in work!
    H36G-WWWW-WW28-U9ZD

Only had one battle but I’m too tired to play anymore games. Will probably end up binge battling on Sunday. Good start at least. Might update this post with thoughts on the format and more battles

Agreeing with Aurorusite on this. One game in and I’ve already come across a Greninja. Thank goodness my team finds Greninja easy to deal with

  16. Syrus says:

First match is a 0-3. Jesus Christ. I’ve had some bad matches before but that was really bad. Rain is Detroit to deal with.

  17. Demantoid says:

I’m 9-1 in the junior/senior division. Faced 3 Garchomps one of which was mega and Stone Edged a pokemon who 4x resisted it, a Leftovers Boomburst Noivern, a level 36 Greninja, and a Blizzard Rhyperior that got a freeze. Only battled 4 people who knew what they were doing.

Lucky. Masters is a whole new cup o’ tea. I’m 3-2, and only because one was a disconnection. I guess that’s what I get for not being ready and having to sub Rotm-Wash for Suicune.

Just had a D.C. there myself, not sure if it was my opponent or myself but it felt a bit too convenient tbh.

Had the last match for now before I’m at it later; a Sun Team with Ninetales and Venusaur lead which I called thankfully but Roar Ninetales and Chlorophyll Venusaur really nearly got me hard.

  20. albus says:

I’m planning to do all(30) battles in the last day..
work pretty well for me last april haha

  21. I had a Metagross at 17HP out against a Mawile, and I predict the sucker punch and switch into hydreigon, and they play rough… Looks like predicting in the 1500s is a bad idea. I ran out of time in one game to selct a move, so it ended up zen headbutting a hydreigon, which switched into venusaur, which was nice. 4-2 to start the tournament.

  22. ThunderPunch says:

2-4 to start. Eeesh. One singles team was a win-the other was a doubles team. All of the flaws of my Mawile team are coming up now. (Namely, weak to Amoonguss…really should have ran goggles Tran)

  23. Khorneguy says:

I’m still breeding my team for this, as work got in the way. Hopefully I’ll be ready to join tomorrow, or else I’ll have to do all thirty on Sunday. Hoping it doesn’t come down to that though.

Registration’s over, I think :( I registered right as the clock turned 9:00 (which was the end time for me).

On another note: Remember kids, never settle for second best. I’ve lost most of my games because I had to substitute Rotom-W for Suicune.

IIRC if you’ve already registered on the site, you don’t have to register in-game until you start battling.

Oh, I get it. So I rush-bred for nothing :( Oh well.

  27. Khorneguy says:

I’m registered on Global Link, so I’m entered. I just need to connect

  28. Syrus says:

So that match I had with that opponent that D.C’d apparently was registered as just a battle I’ve had successfully done yet I have no pts added to win or loss ratio so it’s like…?

I dunno what’s happening atm with Global Link but maybe it just needs more time to count it either as a win/loss.

So far I’m at 3/1 – doin’ a bit better but I feel like I’m scrapin’ these wins. My last opponent really pulled all the stops to take me down; was admirable.

  29. anothervegan says:

7-3 so far. Won some really close games, one by a last turn critical hit that I would have easily lost the game without.

  30. EmbC says:

I think I have been very lucky with matchups so far. All I saw was pretty much low ladder stuff, managing to either 4-0 or 3-0 most of my opponents. Lets see if Saturday brings me more exciting matches…
