Registration is open for the 2015 International Challenge — June! As the final online tournament to give out Championship Points this season, players within a few points of each other will be trying to get a leg up on each other. The tournament may very well decide the last few spots for the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. Players will play on the Competition ladder on Battle Spot from Friday, June 26, 2015, at 00:00 UTC through Sunday, June 28, 2015, at 23:59 UTC. There is a limit of 10 battles per day for a total of 30 battles in the tournament. The highest ranked players will receive Championship Points as follows in each age division. Championship Points will not be divided by region but instead will be awarded to the top 256 players.

Placement Championship Points
1–2 12
3–4 10
5–8 8
9–16 6
17–32 4
33–64 3
65–128 2
129–256 1

Registration ends as soon as the tournament begins so be sure to get your entry in on the Global Link now. You don’t need to lock your Battle Box until just before your first match. To register, log in to the Pokémon Global Link and click on the Competitions link on the left hand navigation bar. You must have your Player ID linked to your Pokemon.com account that your game card is associated with before the competition begins to receive Championship Points. Results will be released mid-July.

Just started playing, lost my first game to Swagger, and won the next two handily for a total of three games. Hopefully I can get some more wins and possibly some CP?

  2. CarsFan2001 says:

7-3 so far. Won some really close games, one by a last turn critical hit that I would have easily lost the game without.

Me too! I’m 7-3 so far. I remember the last game I lost a speed tie which basically cost me the game.

  3. bombe32 says:

Am I imagining things, or is the timer shorter than on the usual Battlespot ladder? I can’t tell, but I do know that I have lost four turns so far, which is surprising. None of them have lost me a game, but it’s really been putting me under some serious pressure. 5-1 so far, lost my first game to a guy that swaggered my Landorus T1 on the switch-in and had the balls to fearlessly HP Ice it the next turn with his Thundy. It reminds me of a famous Pokemon moment at a world championship…..

The timer for this event is 15 minutes for the entire battle and 45 seconds to make your move choices, as per the official timer format usually enforced at events. You have to be able to think on your feet these games, but its possibly the best practice you get for Nationals and limits the amount of damage any cheese strategies can do to you.

  5. MrGX says:

I swear, these tournaments always coincide with the times I’m out of town with no internet access…

you are out of time? I’m stuck here in India with no wi fi!!!

  6. vgchut says:

12-6 :( pretty dissapointed. I made so many mistakes. Well, that timer, some people took advantage of that well with toxic stall cress with moonlight basically outbosses you

  7. TZ111 says:

Day one has gone horrifically for me, I’ve gone 3-7. Although I lost 3 games fair and square the other 4 were horrendously influenced by RNG, involving a total of 2 crucial Rock Slide misses and 3 games changing crits. I’m not normally a player to blame RNG for losses, but I can’t believe how unlucky I’ve been. That said, my team is definitely going back to the drawing board after this IC.

  8. Currently 4-2 at the moment. A few notes:
    – Blaziken and Greninja have definitely seen an increase in usage. In the 6 games I’ve had, Greninja and Blaziken have made two appearances, more then would be seen on battle spot. Blaziken is a good metagame call in general, being able to check most Pokemon in the format (HP Ice deals with Landorus, High Jump Kick for Kangaskhan ect.) Greninja though, I have no idea.
    – I’ve been seeing a lot of Charizard Y’s, possibly because Japan Sand (it should really start being called international sand…) has been used a lot on battle spot lately.
    – Finally (more of a note to self) do not play the game after visiting a pop-culture exhibition! Seriously, how could I forget Garchomp gets Earthquake! Argh!
Hoping to cram the rest of my games tomorrow. Good luck to everyone participating! :)

  9. Sanvy says:

    16-4
Today i lost against a guy with Calm Mind Cresselia who crit and dropped my Heatran’s SpDef twice with Psychic and then managed to win by timestalling, against another guy I missed two Heat Waves against his Gardevoir and Arcanine both at about 10%, and the other one I got rekt by a guy with Charizard Y and Clorophyl Life Orb Hidden Power Ice Tangela’s evolution because when I had Thundurus and he had Charizard I said “Alright he is so switching out to Garchomp, seems a great idea to Thunder Wave that slot”

I am around the 1650 mark, but some games.are just ridicolous

  11. After a close match where I narrowly lose, I then get two more losses to dark void assists strats, think I’m done for the day

I’m scrubbing this, lucky if I’m 50/50 in these.

6 games is nothing so say Greninja and Blaziken have increased in usage, specially when you’re probably not over 1550…

  14. hydreigone says:

after my first 3 games, I can say Landorus-T has declined in usage because it was only on 2 teams

  15. Tmac says:

    – Rocky Helmet Politoed
    – Rocky Helmet Sylveon
    – Rocky Helmet Aromatisse

Was there a “Rocky Helmet must be somewhere on your team” clause for this tournament? This is getting ridiculous

  16. Benster says:

Went from 10-0 to 15-5, the same as I had after day 2 of the April International Challenge…

Lost one match to full paralysis (though I could’ve ensured the win if I wasn’t being stupid), one match to Hydro Pump miss (though I could’ve just used Thunderbolt if I wasn’t being stupid).

In terms of legitimate losses, one was to Toxic stall Moonlight Cresselia. The other two were to Kangaskhan and the Spore squad (Breloom, Amoonguss), though bringing Heatran to rain was another mistake.

  17. rapha says:

At 17-3 currently, rating somewhere under 1700. I’ve faced two Gravity teams so far (one was against a local player), barely winning against the second one. Losses were to Hibiki, a Japanese Sand Team where I choked horrifically, and… uhh… I can’t remember the other one. I also played Xenoblade Hero I think where he had a massive advantage and then DCd lol.

Overall I feel like I’ve played well except for some really strange decisions in my loss to Hibiki, and also learned some useful damage calcs. Getting more familiar with the team and game also after seemingly forgetting what Pokemon is for the last two weeks.

  18. LLeonard says:

Currently 14-6 with Paranoia’s team, really fun tu use even tho the record is not that good :)

Man you were my last game of the day, and it was way too intense. Had me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

I managed to end 17-3 as well. Had a weird case where my opponent DC’d on my winning turn, and the game simply vanished from existence. Didn’t affect my match score, it doesn’t show up on Global Link.. nothing.

My ultimate goal was going at least 20-10 and that is a very feasible goal right now. Love playing with the team, as it’s good practice for me not to overly rely on my Mega, but instead use it only when it’s the right call, and Mega Alakazam kind of forces you to do that.

  20. Demantoid says:

I think I battled you. (my IGN is Meowstic) And I have to say you outplayed me. You are my only loss and i’m 18-1. I saw the Blizzard rhyp too lol. Good luck in the rest of the IC

I remember playing someone named Meowstic. Were you the person whose last Pokemon was Breloom? (I feel like I read somewhere that you liked Breloom)

I am now 17-3 with a rating of about 1680 after losing to rain and something else. Faced 9 competitive opponents today.

  21. Wyrms Eye says:

I’ve only had one game so far because I spent all of Friday breeding the team and I’ve been out most of today and then had to work, and only recently got back in. I doubt I’ll be playing tonight because frankly I play like a wet flannel after working a shift, lol.

However, the one game I played was pretty cool, because the guy pretty much had a team that pretty much is Kryptonite to mine. Greninja, and a fighting type arguably is a horrid combination for me (he incidentally had a Bisharp in the back which also poses its own problems) but he overpredicted turn 1 and I went quite aggressive but by no means ideal. In doing so, I managed to eek out an advantage and carry it through with this ‘TrickSand’ team. Okay, the Steelix did nothing significant in this game, but cut me some slack, given the position I started from, it was a well-controlled game:

    EB9G-WWWW-WW29-69EB

I’m hoping that tomorrow I’ll be able to play a significant chunk of games for the IC and have some more good battles and actually get to use this team’s main draw effectively! But good to hear so many players doing extremely well this time round!

  22. Sam says:

17-3 so far, probably around a 1660 rating. 7-3 Day One and 10-0 Day Two. Unfortunately not getting many ELO points since on Day two every single one of my opponents was lower ranked than me. Considering I just did this to get practice with a potential Nationals team, really happy with how it’s come along so far. Hoping for some good matches tonight!

  23. hydreigone says:

I just stalled a guy to timer because his Terrakion couldn’t break my Aegislash through Wide Guard, and he was down to sash while I had 3 HP. What a hype 15 minutes. 3-1 right now, mid 1500’s.

I do think my opponent made good plays, since he knew my Rotom-H was a big threat. But he had literally no way of dealing with Suicune. I was also able to beat his Bisharp with Fire Blast from Salamence, so I do not regret my decision to use it over Flamethrower since Flamethrower does not 1HKO Bisharp.

  24. Dreykopff says:

Played the first half of my 30, 12-3 record and something 16XX rating.

Kinda horrible start considering my goal is 25+ wins overall. (Reasoning: I got 24-6 with a rather bad team in the February IC, now I’m using a good team instead so it should be sane and realistic to get a better result…shouldn’t it!? haha)
Anyway, all of the 3 losses were absolutely winnable. The first one was a 6/6 mirror match :D and I lost it to the Salamence Speed tie, happens. Second was against a Charizard team where I got quite a good start but mucked up my mid- to endgame with perfection. Then I lost against another Charizard right afterward because I didn’t know that this specific double-target I hammered into their Swampert wouldn’t kill it, and the price I paid was the most important mon in the matchup. And then, about the wins… I faced my fair share of weird stuff that very well could have been trouble. Most of the time the according opponents were their own worst enemies — and made a few bad plays to give me undeserved advantages.

Well, who knows what happens next. I’m having fun giving this team the last run anyway, still the best I’ve used in a long time.

  25. Azuran says:

8-2 to end the “first” day. It should have been 9 wins but I on my second to last match I was too busy tweeting instead of paying attention to the match that I left my Scizor in against a Hydreigon and forgot to Mega Evolve my Kangaskhan. The worst is that I came back and could have won that match if my Rotom hadn’t gotten flinched by a Dark Pulse /sigh

Never tweet and play guys. It’s hazardous for your health.

  26. 6 games is nothing so say Greninja and Blaziken have increased in usage, specially when you’re probably not over 1550…

    You’re right. I’m sorry

  27. Hibiki says:

23-7 the dream, should have hit 1700 flat.
Will post team tomorrow after I get up.

  28. Nucleose says:

Went 22-8 with my Mawile team on my alt. Was fun stuff and I think the team is good, but too cerebral for me. Hard to call some of the things that happened Nats training, because of the stuff I ran into, both in wins and losses that would have been a different experience in best of 3. Hopefully my Sal team can also go that record or 23-7, as I had taken a 2-3 week break and forgot how to play pokemon without doing anything till the IC, and then I disconnected a few times during advantageous situations. Life is life, I suppose.

  29. Schinken says:

I went 20-8 but the game wont let me play the last 2 matches.
I used a team including blaziken wich seems to have risen in popularity. Id like to talk about the spreads for it because ive seen a lot of different sets and would love to know what you guys are doing with it. My spread was 56 Atk 204 SpAtk 4 SpDef 244Speed with a hasty nature. I chose hasty because it gives me a chance to live some Sylveon Hyper Voices. The spread allows me to outspeed scarf Landorus after 1 speed boost. Ohkos Megamence with HP Ice and Ohkos Aegislash in Shield Forme up to 252Hp and 60 SpDef investment. Kang is ofc still an ohko by Superpower. My Moves were Protect/Superpower/HP Ice/Overheat

  30. JHufself says:

21-9, losses were mostly due to a combination of non optimal luck and playing too risky/conservatively on my end. In addition, I was frozen exactly once in a battle I ended up losing. But overall, this was nice practice for Nats and I like the team changes I’ve made. Ready for the main event.
