  1. Scott says:

Good to see things are improving there. I think we all got our feelings about a Wi-Fi system as the sole means of Nationals qualification when the Japan Cup was announced, but at least doubling the trips and adding some unpaid invites is a step in the right direction for Japan. Nice to see some more investment toward sending players to Worlds — hopefully that expands to qualification as well in the future.

  2. 13Yoshi37 says:

Yes! Really liking it, even though it is obvious that Top32 from a WiFi Competition should not be the prefered way to qualify for Nationals. Despite all that, worlds is going to be even more competitive with up to 9 strong Japanese players in it!

  3. crobert says:

An extremely cynical way of looking at this is that the money from the now-indefinitely postponed Korean Nats has gone to give Japanese players trips. I sure hope Korea gets its invites after all and that Pokemon Company Japan can keep on giving players more invites for future VGCs.

  4. PreyingShark says:

Man, the Top 32 are all within 35 points of each other… Yeah, I don’t really like that qualification system at all.

More invites is really good news, though.

As far as that borderline conspiracy theory goes… I don’t think budgeting works that way. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, of course.

  5. Toph says:

It’s nice to see that they’re getting more invites. I’m quite interested in the usage statistics, seems extremely similar to ours.

  6. bgt says:

Really love that they increased the invites for Japan. But as everyone else stated, qualification via Wifi. That’s pretty lame.

  7. Havak says:

Really pleased with the increased support for Japan.

However, I’m somewhat surprised to see no ‘Bid’ or ‘Shine’ on there considering they’re usually high in the Battle Spot standings and I’ve had some great games with the two of them. Unless they are there and those names are different for some reason.

  8. crobert says:

Bid just barely missed the cut at 35th place and if Shine is who I think it is he also barely missed at 38th.

Everyone’s so tightly packed together that there were probably a lot of very good players that missed the cut by just 1 to 10 points.

  10. ryuhashegi says:

Question. How does the Japan circuit organized? I mean does it use CP like in US or Nationals? In other words, what does it take for you to get invite to Worlds

  11. Hibiki says:

it has been 32 invites to nats this year for each age division, determined by a wifi competition that was open to japan only. top 8 from nats got worlds invite, top 4 got trip
