143First VGC ’14 Regional Date and Locations Revealed (Updated)
Players who aren’t able to make it out to the 2013 Pokémon World Championships might already be looking towards the 2013 – 2014 season. The Premier Tournament Organizers seem to be on the same train of thought because a little bit of digging on the Pokémon website reveals that three locations have already booked their venues and have event details up! The first Regional of the VGC ’14 season will happen on October 27th, 2013. This date is just over two weeks after the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
Update: It looks like we’re going to get at least two dates for the fall as the NorCal Regional will be taking place on October 13th, 2013 — one day after the release of Pokémon X and Y. Event locations known so far are:
October 13th, 2013
Pleasanton, California
Alameda County Fairgrounds (Building C)
4501 Pleasanton Avenue
94566
October 27th, 2013
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Convention Center (Terrace Ballroom)
1101 Arch Street
19107
Ft. Wayne, Indiana
Grand Wayne Center Anthony Wayne Ballroom
120 West Jefferson Boulevard
46802
Houston, Texas
Hilton Houston North
12400 Greenspoint Drive
77060
If we have fifteen locations split across three seasons like the current season, we still have one location left. All four of these areas also hosted Regional Championships in the fall last year. If the same pattern holds, the last event will be in Toronto.
Credit to Frank S. for the heads up.
To be honest I really hope they don’t add more regionals, not only because of the cp stuff I said earlier, but since they split up the regionals last time and they got much smaller, I hope they stay how they are since they are starting to get bigger and bigger, and I’m assuming following worlds and x and y they will get even bigger
Bigger, cooler events + better prizes + more Swiss > smaller events with less people and probably worse prizes. Quality>quantity basically
I think most of the population is detracted by the fact that most of the country has to travel 6+ hours to attend a regional that is overcrowded, on a Sunday, and wont start on time. If there are more regionals I think the overall attendance will increase because more people could make a reasonable trip and the existing regionals will be easier for the tournament organizers to manage.
I hope Toronto gets changed to a Niagara falls regional. That way I can get in some waterfall training before I battle.
Personally, I was hoping that TPCi would just cut out the Fall Regionals like they did in 2012 so that a clean cut could be made from BW2 and, like you said, the prizes could be of higher quality. There’s a lot of pressure on someone knowing that they only get help for the Nats trip if they make the Top 2 on top of the fact that you have to attend ALL 3 Regional events just to have a respectable amount of CP for Worlds qualification. The idea that some people can only afford to go to one Regional event doesn’t help things, either.
Tell me less places and dates if we’re stuck in cities like Salem again for NW regs
Yay! I can probably make the NorCal Regional!
Hey guys I have a petition to bring bring a regional to Peoria, Il or surrounding area. I don’t know if it’ll get big and people will back it, but its here at least. We have to let them know we want more regionals in a broader area. External
I’m in it for houston if it’s X and Y. The date is oct 27th that’s a little more than 2 weeks after the release so… :3
5 Regionals at a time is enough. What would be useful is a State/Provincial/Territory which I’m sure they’re working towards in the long term. What you want is impractical.
And Tim, I’m sure we’ll be stuck in Salem again =/ They’ve always had it there. Really wish it was Portland or Seattle.
Unless it’s Chicago, no dice. I’ve lived in that area, and there is no reason to have a regional in what amounts to Middle of Nowhere, IL. Especially since there’s already a Madison regional.
Dude, this would be amazing if we could actually control it, but we can’t. It’s all TPCi’s choices. Though that would be really convenient for me as a player, I’ll just have to either find the closest Regional and just play that. Last year, that happened to be St. Louis for me.
After my mom went to nationals with me and found it a super “unique experience” I am hoping that that is going to make her more positive to attending VGC events.
I am hoping for the VGC 2013 metagame to apply to this cause… Pokemon isn’t just for competitive! I want to enjoy the god dang game xD
Also I have been making new teams lately (got out of a 6 month team building slump finally) that have really been working well on PS! so I hope I can put them to the test in a tourney.
I would be at the Philly Regionals if I went to one.
I’m hoping I’ll be able to make my way down to Fort Wayne this year, I was pretty bummed that I wasn’t able to get down there last year.
Since we’re not moving to X & Y till after the Fall Regional, I hope they mix up the 2013-14 format with a wrinkle that separates the Fall Regional from what we’ve had the last couple years. Just for the Fall, perhaps we’ll see a return of the rule that allows teams to carry one (or two) of the usually banned legendaries?–something like what we had with the HeartGold & SoulSilver season? Or perhaps a game changer will be released in the Dream World?
I like our current format, but I’ve hoped for in-season wrinkles even this year (like what happens in cards). I don’t think we’ve had anything at all new in the format since the Winter Regional.
This is good. I need to get planning now.
I’d love to see our Lightningrod Zapdos, Water Absorb Suicunes, and Shadow Tag Chandelures get play for just one tournament! If we’re going to get a change it format, at least our fall not have to revert to exactly the same old tactics.
I might be able to make the Ft. Wayne regional. It would be my first regional in masters
I believe in you man
Is there going to be a Toronto Regional that they haven’t announced yet on the same weekend?
I’m personally determined to make it to fall regionals in Texas. Haven’t been to a Regionals event in a few years, so I’m interested in seeing how things are with both the card game and video game regionals in the same place.
Lets go to Philly Regionals I hope this time me top 4 (after my training in worlds with so many good players ) !!!!
If you’re going to McDonalds for food at any point for Philly regionals you are doing it so wrong. The most exciting thing about Philly is easily the Reading Terminal Market. I shall teach you the ways. The market will easily influence me using a far more aggressive team just to be able to finish matches quickly and go there to eat.
Hey guys, I just moved to Los Angeles. Does anyone know (from SoCal) the best way to get up to northern California for the regional?
Plane, bus, train, car? Do you think I will need to book a hotel?
Thanks guys… I’ve only done day trip regionals before.
I always take the train with my father if I have to go to NorCal for a tournament. The Amtrak trains are very reliable, and from LAX to San Jose the ticket is 58$ for round trip on the date, however the ride is 10 hours long. On the bright side, you have that time to rest and prepare!~ The train will get you there at around 8pm on the twelfth, so I suggest reserving a hotel before you arrive so you don’t risk having to go through the night without shelter.
Oh yeah, I’ll be in Philly for my first masters event.

Florida regionals confirmed again.
Why aren’t all of the fall regionals on the dame date? (Someone who knows please answer; not interested in speculation)
No one is quite sure yet, everything about it right now is mainly speculation. This question is on the mind of almost everybody I would presume.
I hope they don’t have separate dates purely because of the CP issue involved of people living in that area getting twice as much CP for this, unless they do something like you can only compete in one Regional per month.
Ok, I will investigate and come back with what I find.
