Registration Open for 2015 International Challenge April

Registration is open for the 2015 International Challenge — April! As the first online tournament to give out Championship Points this season, there will be a lot of interest going into this event. The tournament may very well decide the last few spots for the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. Players will play on the Competition ladder on Battle Spot from Friday, April 24, 2015, at 00:00 UTC to Sunday, April 26, 2015, at 23:59 UTC. There is a limit of 10 battles per day for a total of 30 battles in the tournament. The highest ranked players will receive Championship Points as follows in each age division. Championship Points will not be divided by region but instead will be awarded to the top 256 players.

Placement Championship Points
1–2 12
3–4 10
5–8 8
9–16 6
17–32 4
33–64 3
65–128 2
129–256 1

Registration ends as soon as the tournament begins so be sure to get your entry in on the Global Link now. You don’t need to lock your Battle Box until just before your first match. To register, log in to the Pokémon Global Link and click on the Competitions link on the left hand navigation bar. You must have your Player ID linked to your Pokemon.com account that your game card is associated with before the competition begins to receive Championship Points. Results will be released on May 1st.

  2. Simperheve says:

I’ll be doing my games later tonight, Just gotta finish my last preparations and then i’m off to play in Emolga’s flying circus!

  3. NinjaSyao says:

7-3 for the first day. Good enough considering the fact that I got paired up against a lot of really bad match-ups and just finished breeding the team :)

  4. Sharqi says:

Guys, make sure you have a stable wifi. There’s nothing more frustrating than getting your rating screwed up by a disconnect…

  5. Boomguy says:

9-1 for me.  Watch it all here http://www.twitch.tv/boomguyvgc/profile/past_broadcasts.  Also has anyone played any Japanese or Korean players for this tournament?

  6. Keonspy says:

I use an electric mouse team and I won 1 game so far!!!!

    QJ9W-WWWW-WWXT-ZKJU

The cute squad is: Pikachu, Plusle, Minum, Emolga, Dedenne, Pachirisu!

  7. liz7 says:

Anyone know how to check your rating? I just finished all my 10 battles but I dc on the last battle so I couldnt see what my rating is.

  8. Bucket says:

3-7 on Day 1. So far I’ve fought one Khan Artist team (CURSE YOU DARK VOID) and then saw a team where a Weaville used Beat Up on a Justified Terrakion…they still lost, though.

My last win was against someone who hadn’t EV trained and brought under Level 50 pokes.

Sign in to the Pokemon Global Link, then go here:

And click on “To Competition Participation Records (My Page)” in the upper right-hand corner.

Edit: Actually it doesn’t look like the rating updates live :(

  10. Syrus says:

Competition is fierce this time round. My last three matches have been really tough. Only won the second one through a small degree of luck in hax.

I was reading earlier about the points giveaway for the winners; what’s the pot/pool like for it this time? Is it really just a measly 12 pts for a 30-0 run?

  11. Tmac says:

So many bad players spamming ParaSwag and Rock Slide, am I getting unlucky matchups or are there just that many people throwing the match to a coin toss? I’m glad there are 30 matches to even the hax out a bit, but I have a feeling this 7-3 is going to be quite difficult to pull through with.

Like, people aren’t even using the coin flip as a win condition, they’re just spamming it when there are clearly better options. Admittedly, only two people have gone full-on ThunderSwag + Rock Slide, but a handful of my opponents opt for Rock Slide instead of a more damaging move just to fish for flinch. I really don’t understand why it’s a 30% flinch rate instead of 10% considering it’s a spread move, but I guess I should stop complaining and start using it more often.

  12. Dreykopff says:

    Well, I am 4-6 after day 1 and using a serious team. Don’t ask…

As Simon and Zach pointed out here http://nuggetbridge.com/forums/topic/15448-a-2015-international-challenge-april-question/ (lol rip me), 12CP can actually mean a lot to the players that are vying on the edge for a spot in Worlds. For most of us floating around on 60cp, yeah, doesn’t matter too much, but there are some people who could get their spot stolen if they don’t place well in this event, and every event they can.

  14. skyburial says:

Has anyone else noticed a marginal increase in Raichu usage of late?  Caught me off guard the first time around but the Encore/Fake Out sets seem to be getting pretty hot.

  15. iMagikarp says:

raichu is increasing to limit options from thundurus…though its not a very good counter.

  16. EstiloDM says:

Actually it is. Unless offensive Thundurus,

    All Thundurus can do is:
    -Swagger
    – HP Ice
    – Taunt

That’s it. No t-wave spam, no t-bolts. -main stapple moves used by Thundurus 90% of the time-

  17. iMagikarp says:

The thing is. Raichu has a sash most times. and Hp Ice is just needed to break the sash while its partner will eventually take care of it :

not to mention thundurus loves to be paired with Landorus…

Thing is, Raichu is often used as Fake Out support, so it goes both ways, except for the most part it doesn’t have to worry about faking out Thundurus and just fake out whatever partner it has and have it’s own partner take care of it, so it goes both ways if that is your argument. Raichu + any bulky water type is therefore pretty effective against the Thundurus+Landorus lead

Raichu may not last the longest on the field but it can help gain a lot of momentum against Thundurus being a lead regardless.

  19. Scott says:

What I’ve been wondering for a while now Scott, does that mean that the Japanese players will clog up a good portion of those 256 slots as they can not receive CP, or will the players without IDs be excluded when the standings for the CP payout are calculated?

Beats me man, I just put the text in the website or I get the hose again

  20. Azuran says:

7-3 after the first day. That last lost is going to sting a bit for a while because I Thunder Wave a Mega Sceptile like an idiot, pretty much costing me the battle in one sweep. On my defense, my brain is tired of all the studying for my final on Monday, and no one uses Sceptile so I can’t help but forget what he even has.

Oh well, otherwise a good day.

  21. LithiumAcid says:

9-1 on Day 1, pleased there was no DCs or hax.

  22. albus says:

Can I play all 30 games in the last day?

  23. LassieNessie says:

I managed 8-2 on my first day, which I was pretty pleased with. There were some close matches, and it was a lot of fun! ^_^

  24. GeMiNi says:

8-2 so far where I lost one match to a pretty good player and the other one I lose was because I overestimated my opponent and had I just gone for the obvious move every time I would’ve won.

  25. Firestorm says:

Japanese players cannot take up slots in the Top 256. In fact, I don’t think Japanese players can enter this tournament unless someone has a friend who has? Played zero so far.

Japanese and Korean players have confirmed this over Twitter.  They cannot play this tournament which makes sense since they don’t use CP

  27. Dan88 says:

    8-2 so far.
RNG screwed me over badly twice for first loss
Second loss was my own fault, i forgot rotom wash has 4x resist to steel not just 2x. But come on, it had like 5% hp left :P I must’ve done like 2 damage ha

    “International” Challenge

  29. Legacy says:

    10-0 on Day 1
I had some very close games. Highlight match for day 1 was against a HP Ground Mega Salamence besides a Fake Tears Whimsicott. It rekt my Heatran but I was able to comeback with Sylveon.

  30. duffy says:

Wen 7-3 tonight – it could’ve been 8-2 or even 9-1 but after the first loss I was disappointed because I didn’t expect Earthquake on Terrakion so it went kind off downhill from there – but the win over Trick Room made me smile again, lol 😡
