Registration Open for 2015 International Challenge April

Registration is open for the 2015 International Challenge — April! As the first online tournament to give out Championship Points this season, there will be a lot of interest going into this event. The tournament may very well decide the last few spots for the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. Players will play on the Competition ladder on Battle Spot from Friday, April 24, 2015, at 00:00 UTC to Sunday, April 26, 2015, at 23:59 UTC. There is a limit of 10 battles per day for a total of 30 battles in the tournament. The highest ranked players will receive Championship Points as follows in each age division. Championship Points will not be divided by region but instead will be awarded to the top 256 players.

Placement Championship Points
1–2 12
3–4 10
5–8 8
9–16 6
17–32 4
33–64 3
65–128 2
129–256 1

Registration ends as soon as the tournament begins so be sure to get your entry in on the Global Link now. You don’t need to lock your Battle Box until just before your first match. To register, log in to the Pokémon Global Link and click on the Competitions link on the left hand navigation bar. You must have your Player ID linked to your Pokemon.com account that your game card is associated with before the competition begins to receive Championship Points. Results will be released on May 1st.

unbelievable, from 1745 to 1700, losing twice to last turn rock slide miss and twice to aids trick room team (smh firestorm).
finished with a mediocre 23-7, rip.

  2. Blaazin14 says:

Always thought people exaggerated with the stories of consistently bad RNG, but I finally know how they feel. I will be having nightmares of missed WIll-o-Wisps for days.

  3. 4-0 ATM, posting because I’ve never played so many wierd teams before.

  4. Expert Evan says:

17-12 with a team I’ll probably retire since it went 1-4 at a PC today.

  5. Andrew Hovis says:

So has anyone else got paired down a lot. I fought 26 people in the 1500’s, 3 people in the 1600’s, and 1 person in the 1700’s. I finished my rating in the 1690’s. I personally think it’s absolutely stupid how many times I got paired down, everytime I lost my rating pretty much reset from all the points I would lose. Then to get those points back I had to fight 2 people and win. Does the IPC not have a better way to pair people, say maybe W/L record or I don’t know possibly a maximum 50 point rating difference.

I know exactly how you feel.

On a side note, I ran into way too many choice scarf garchomps on day 3.

Ended up finishing 19-11 with 1 d/c on my end.

It’s not that I was after the CP, I’m just really competitive and hate losing. It kind of ticked me off getting all those low opponents cause there was no way for me to gain significant amounts of points and when I lost it put me back.

Yeah. I was more looking forward to fighting some higher ranked players, but that’s really tough to do when you overpredict someone that’s making the most obvious plays possible and don’t realize it until you’re down 2-4. Then it’s one loss and you lose 50 points and one win only nets you around 10 or so.

The games that I did manage to have with players rated 1600+ were all really fun though.(with the exception of one of my opponent’s suicune being paralyzed for 5 turns in a row. Still feel bad for that one)

  9. Ended up on a major tilt and went 17-13 -_-

At least I had a second turn forfeit and an anger point krookodile win.

plus side is that I took it to the wire against kamaal

    …still lost though

  10. MindApe says:

Still have a lot of games to get through if I want to fill my 30 up, awkward weekend for me having started it away on a trip, and finishing it packing again for another one…

That said, I managed to find a Mega Kang with Dig and Outrage while battling on the lower end of the ladder. Fortunately for me the surprise value didn’t upset my applecart because frankly those are poor options, but it’s easy to relax in those matches and start playing a bit looser and letting it get closer than it should be. That’s at least one entertaining story from me for this IC.

  11. Mikewando says:

I ended up somewhere around 1680 which is roughly where I started on the last day, so a bit of a wash.

I will say that I’m a big fan of the 10 allowed matches per day rather than 20; it’s a lot easier to manage the lower time commitment.

But I do think these competitions should give out more CP, and possibly to a larger number of players (I’m skeptical of the global rewards). I mean spending an afternoon playing 6 matches, squeaking out a decent premier challenge performance and grabbing 20 points for 8th place is a much better time investment to reward ratio. For my 30 battles across 3 days I’m looking at maybe 1 or 2 points. I guess the argument is that not everyone gets a chance to play in the IC, but that’s also more than true for premier challenges.

  12. Shangovgc says:

15-5 after day two cannot wait to play later today this is my first IC and having loads of fun. Once u get over the fact that sylveon got flinched three turns in a row to lose the game (along with various other had) was wondering wat point total would be good in juniors division as I am currently 1650s? Thks

  13. Shangovgc says:

    Ment to say hax

  14. Tmac says:

So I finished my 30 games, when will I be able to cancel participation safely? I have a PC tomorrow (Today, 2PM EST) and would like to change my team a bit, but I don’t want to cancel participation if it’s going to drop my record, since I /might/ have made it to top 256 at least, and every CP is appreciated. I’m fairly sure that if I were to cancel participation offline and not connect to the internet until results are posted I’d be fine, though I would think that you wouldn’t be penalized for canceling after finishing your matches anyway. Does anyone have a definite answer? I’ve never participated in an IC before.

  15. Feis says:

You’re allowed to have your PC Team in the Team and not in the Battle Box if latter is locked because of Online Tournaments.

If you choose to “Cancel Participation,” it won’t affect your records for the games you’ve already done. I can confirm this because I’ve entered three online tournaments in the past and have chosen that option to get my battle box unlocked before the tournament itself ended, and everything was recorded fine. It doesn’t say so in the game, but I can ensure you that this works.

  17. Simperheve says:

So imma have to retire because life has gotten in the way, but I’ve managed 23 matches with a 12-11 record. Who knew scarf Gardevoir would be such a scary force?

  18. Wilfire70 says:

    Finished 28-2 ( 18xx )
    Probably First in Seniors!

Sounds like a smexy report coming to us!

  20. Benster says:

Finished 25-5 with a rating of about 1750-1760 in the Masters division, going 10-0 on my final day.

I wonder whether the first two days could have gone any better if I hadn’t been watching a TV show while playing, and actually noted my opponents’ teams.

  21. iMagikarp says:

This is frustrating. Win 3 gain 12 points. Lose 1 lose 24…wonder what the algorithm is here…

  22. MajorBowman says:

Finished 23-7 overall. 2 losses were due to me not paying attention and timing out on turn 1, which instantly lost me the game both times (lol oops). After a rough patch somewhere around the middle of my matches (I did 21 of them consecutively last night), I ended up winning my last 9 and finishing somewhere around 1710. Had some very intense and very close battles, and used a team archetype that I had little experience with but really enjoyed. Based on past IC results I think I should be safe for some CP, but we’ll see.

  23. JanobiiChan says:

Finished 15-15. Quite disappointed with myself, as I feel like a lot of the games that I lost was really winnable if I had played better. At least I feel like I’ve learned a lot from this, I know for sure some things that I would like to change with my team.

Also, as some people have mentioned, I got downpaired a lot, 14 of the games I had was against people with a rating of below 1500 – in the end contributing towards me finishing below 1500 as well, even though I split my games evenly…

Still, I’m at least a bit happy, considering that this was my first serious IC, and that I had only just finished breeding/EV training my team before it all started…

  24. Zekira Drake says:

I had an OK record of 22-8, although I kept running into opponents with a lower rating… so…

  25. Blaazin14 says:

Ended up 20-10, disappointing considering how the matches could have went, but my best result for an International Challenge so far.

  26. sebs92 says:

    I’m 18-2 so far with a rating of 1730

i got awfully wrecked by the Mega Kangaskhan/Tailwind Charizard leads. It was funny though.

My second loss was me making a really poor prediction in which I thunderbolt’d and EQ’d the slot Landorus-T was switched in. That was hilarious as well.

I’ve been paired only with players in the 1600s, but I guess I can’t complain as almost all of you were paired with lower rated players…

My question now is, should I continue? Or I already secured the CP with my current rating? I just don’t wanna go on tilt and lose points so I’m leaning towards stop playing…

  27. Shangovgc says:

22-8 final score pretty happy for my first IC

  28. IceyGamer says:

20-5 with 5 battles left. Doing very well today.

  29. Carl says:

Went 20-10 with six of my losses coming due to connection errors on my side. I definitely wouldn’t have won all six of those battles but probably wouldn’t have lost them all, either. I’ll finish in the low 1600s as I didn’t play too many highly rated players and took too many losses against sub 1500 ratings.

    Observations:
Saw a lot of Greninja. Which is kind of scary because, while it is a glass cannon, a less than optimal turn against it can really change the battle quickly. I did win all my battles against Greninja (when they finished) but I had to tred lightly because, as I learned, the team I was using wasn’t very strong against water types. Rain kicked my arceus the couple times I played it. Just didn’t have a good answer for it… I like using Mega Venusaur for many of my teams so rain is an archetype I usually just gloss over.

For Megas, I saw the usual Kangaskhan but also quite a bit of Charizard-Y and Metagross. Heatran was often my MVP because of that. Yeah, I used Heatran in a lot of my battles come to think of it. Best fire type, IMO.

I used Salamence for my Mega with a DD/Roost set. I like Roost a lot but I hardly found use for it in this tournament. I think I’m leaning toward a second attack being important for Mence in these kinds of BO1 things where you can really use the extra coverage.

More than a few people had the “spam spread moves” mentality but unfortunately I didn’t get to abuse Conkeldurr’s Wide Guard against that enough.

Maybe it was the players or maybe my team but I rarely felt threatened by Landorus-T. Still a great pokemon but I don’t see it as one that should be on every team. The abundance of Milotic and Bisharp (and even a Primeape!) seemed to indicate that most players were ready for Intimidate. Granted, not the only intimidator out there, but definitely the most common.

I didn’t see a single Aegislash which I found bizarre. I would have thought someone would have had one.

  30. After the maximum 30 matches, I finished with a record of 20-10. I had some gratuitous bullcrap, but I did manage to do a lot better than the last few challenges.
